I guess the negative reviews are coming from people what watch anime and take it seriously. As someone who just finished watching "event horizon" and then saw a suggestion offering "cartoon hell", I got what I wanted. It is a fun slash through the pretty imaginative circles of hell.
What was kind of annoying, slightly amusing, but frustrating as well, was how hard it was to believe Dante cared that much about the utterly unloveable Beatrice. She's even nagging him while he fights through hell to save her, the prize at the end if he succeeded would be a living hell being married to this ungrateful nagging harpy.
