A not-so-shocking "sequel" that is only saved by Ilsa
5 March 2024
Although Ilsa's first film was not well received by critics, the financial success it had was enough to make this second film. It cannot be considered a sequel exactly because the Ilsa films do not have continuity and each film is independent with only Ilsa as the only thing that connects the films. Basically, each movie features an alternate universe with different variants of Ilsa. This second film presents us with an alternate reality where Ilsa now works for the harem as a trafficker of women to be sold as slaves. Dyanne Thorne does not detach herself from her character at all and she is certainly the best thing in the entire film. Ilsa still has the same perverse and sadistic personality as her Nazi counterpart. You could say that Ilsa is the one who saves the entire film because it must be admitted that there was no need to make a second installment. The level of nudity and eroticism in this film feels a bit higher than the previous film. There are brutal and violent scenes, but they feel less visceral than in the previous film. There isn't even that much blood and gore making this film less impactful and there are even moments that fall into humor. As an exploitation film it manages to do its job, but as a sequel it feels like just another one of the bunch. Ilsa, Harem Keeper Of The Oil Sheiks is a film that does not fail to offer entertainment and a bit of impact, but it is inevitable to think that it is an unnecessary sequel when it comes time to compare it with its predecessor. My final rating for this movie is an 8/10.
