Warning: Spoilers
This almost feels like a prequel to 'The Death Of Stalin' from 2017 as it climaxes with the dictator's demise and also in its blend of broad comedy and dark drama. Based on several short stories it is an episodic film but each section illuminates the horrendous outcomes of having a totalitarian mindset. Stalin isn't an ordinary comrade to his people but a self proclaimed red monarch, who can do what he likes. He is supported by self serving Politburo members all terrified of making mistakes.

The acting is excellent. The two main leads, Colin Blakely as Stalin and David Suchet as Beria are brilliant. They walk the thin line between farce and reality very well. One moment you are laughing at them, the next you are shuddering and sometimes both at the same time. The rest of the cast are ideal in their roles too. A film that entertains but also makes you think.
