It was at times difficult to tell the target audience for this unorthodox (what I assumed to be) teen-horror. Moments reminded me of the mild shock of offbeat Ozzie kids show - Round the Twist, occasionally blended with the more modern peril of a Fargoesque thriller.
The well arranged cast (including Lamorne Morris - Fargo, Patrick Fischler - Twin Peaks:The Return, Lauren Bowles - True Blood) do a decent job throughout, but at times the dialogue is delivered in a slightly camp style, adding a whiff of black comedy to a narrative that doesn't appear to be desiring it (I can't find a listing that describes it as a comedy horror).
There are enough classic horror nods throughout to keep the purest horror aficionados comfortable, yet it moves at a pace fast enough to cater for the more modern, often less forgiving "bite size" horror audience.
The soundtrack was at times a little lightweight in creating a more threatening vibe but for the budget it likely had, do an adequate job.
Each time I see a China Brothers production/script they move on in leaps and bounds and this is again another leap forward in what will likely be a lengthy film career.
