There is no denying that Robin Williams was one of the greatest entertainers to have graced the industry. His on-screen presence, improvisation skills, and comedic timing, all contributed to making him one of the best comedians of all time. Therefore, it isn’t surprising that the financiers behind the 1992 biographical drama, Chaplin, wanted to cast him in the lead role. After all, he was taking the comedy genre by storm, wasn’t he?
Robin Williams in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)
As fate would have it, though, the role ended up going to Robert Downey Jr. who did an incredible job and did justice to the life and personality of Charlie Chaplin. Appreciated by many for his performance, Robert Downey Jr. ended up receiving his first Oscar nomination, all thanks to this very role.

Review: It pains me to think that a generation is growing up that does not hold Steve Martin in the same regard as generations past. At 78 years old, Martin was the biggest comedian of all time for some, a movie star for others, and one of the old guys from Only Murders in the Building for the rest.

In a career on stage, screen and television that has endured for more than 50 years, writer, actor and comedian Martin Short got his start in a 1972 Canadian production of the stage musical “Godspell” in a cast that included Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Victor Garber, Dave Thomas and Gilda Radner, all of whom would work with Short on subsequent projects in the years to come.
Short’s first exposure to American audiences was as a member of the Second City troupe in the sketch show, “Sctv Network 90,” which aired on NBC from 1981-83 and earned Short his first Emmy for writing. There he created such signature Short characters as Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick. He went on to be cast in Season 10 of “Saturday Night Live” (1985-86) along with Billy Crystal, Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest. While there are many different reality TV competition shows, Johnny Bananas feels MTV’s The Challenge “doesn’t get the respect it deserves.”
The seven-time winner of MTV’s show was among the cast members for The Traitors 2, which just wrapped up its finale on Peacock.
Appearing with him was familiar castmate Chris “Ct” Tamburello, who was one of two winners of The Traitors 2.
In a surprising finish, Ct shared the prize of over $200,000 with another star from MTV’s Real World and The Challenge, Trishelle Cannatella.
The MTV stars outlasted a starstudded group that included former cast members from Big Brother, Real Housewives, The Bachelor, and Survivor, among others.
Bananas recently had Trishelle on his Death, Taxes & Bananas podcast to discuss the finale and her exciting win, which he was extremely happy to see.

For decades now, Steve Martin has been making us laugh – whether it’s in comedy classics like The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains, and Three Amigos; heartfelt favourites like Father Of The Bride; or in his more recent ongoing role as actor-slash-true-crime-podcaster Charles-Haden Savage in Only Murders In The Building. His career has spanned so many years and so many styles of comedy – and now, fans can take a trawl through his legendary life in a brand new documentary. Or, more accurately, two documentaries. Get ready for the highly-punctuated Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces (as it’s officially stylised), a… well, two-part documentary about Steve Martin. Watch the trailer here:
The film(s) come from acclaimed documentarian Morgan Neville, previously behind the Oscar-winning 20 Feet From Stardom, and Mister Rogers doc Won’t You Be My Neighbour? Each part will present different looks at Martin’s life – the...

"Galaxy Quest" isn't just a hilarious sci-fi riff on "Three Amigos," it's also respected by longtime fans of "Star Trek" as a loving parody of the original series created by Gene Roddenberry, not to mention a positive portrayal of passionate fandom. In the movie, Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, and Daryl Mitchell play the cast members of a cheesy sci-fi series called "Galaxy Quest" that looks eerily like the original iteration of "Star Trek" on the small screen. At this point in their careers, all the actors are washed up, relegated to appearing at sci-fi conventions and answering nerdy questions about the show from their most passionate fans. But they're about to get a chance to become real heroes.

Match #1: X-Division Scramble – Jake Something def. Laredo Kid, Kushida, Trey Miguel, Mike Bailey & El Hijo del Vikingo The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:
Don’t blink as six of the X-Division’s best clash in a Scramble match where it’s every man for himself! Miguel hits Kushida with the Lightning Spiral, doing damage to Kid in the process. Something clears the ring but gets down with a head scissors from Vikingo. Something bounces back with a powerbomb to Vikingo, sending him over the top rope into a pile of bodies on the outside. Bailey soars with a step-up Moonsault to the floor before Kid picks him off the top rope with a Spanish Fly.

Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel were always known for their brutal honesty when it came to film criticism. But the time they bashed “The Three Amigos” to Chevy Chase’s face once led to an unexpected realization about why people were drawn to their show.
This latest story appears in Matt Singer’s new book “Opposable Thumbs: How Siskel and Ebert Changed Movies Forever.” Ebert and Siskel appeared on the December 12 episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” in 1986. Chase was also a guest on the episode to promote his new Christmas comedy, “The Three Amigos.”
During the show, Carson asked the film critics to pick a movie “that is really so bad.” Ebert didn’t hesitate before slamming the very movie Chase was there to promote.
“I can’t really recommend ‘Three Amigos,'” Ebert said at the time, eliciting a round of boos from the audience. “It...

Steve Martin and Martin Short forged a strong friendship after starring alongside each other in Three Amigos. The comedic duo has gone on the road with comedy tours, including A Night You’ll Forget for the Rest of Your Life and Now You See Them, Soon You Won’t. The two have recently collaborated on a critically acclaimed show for Hulu, Only Murders in the Building. Three Amigos would also feature the comedy stylings of Chevy Chase, and while he hasn’t stayed as close to Martin and Short as much, he is very much associated with the two through the John Landis comedy classic.
According to MovieWeb, Chase recently appeared on the podcast, Wtf with Marc Maron. Chase would speak about his Amigos, “I love those two — very, very funny guys. They’re doing whatever they’re doing now. I hadn’t watched it [Only Murders in the Building] — maybe once,...

Movie goers have always been fascinated with films that take place in outer space. Infuse that with some fun adventures, and you’re guaranteed a big hit. With Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 hitting big in theaters and bringing fans to tears since it’s their last adventure, now is the time to look for other space operas to fill that gap. What should you be watching?
Galaxy Quest (1999)
This film starts as a joke, making fun of the culture that can spring up around franchises like Star Trek. We see the cast attending a convention celebrating this long over TV series. Most of them seem like they want to be doing anything else, but we hear about the problems of them being typecast as their characters. At first, they think they are being courted for a new show but quickly find out that they are actually...

Known for his smug, bemused sense of humor, Chevy Chase became famous for a series of highly profitable comedies. Let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in New York in 1943, Chase turned to comedy after a series of odd jobs. After a short stint with the “National Lampoon,” he shot to stardom in 1975 as one of the original Not Ready for Primetime Players on “Saturday Night Live.” In its first season, Chase became famous both for his pratfalls and his Gerald Ford impersonation. He was also the initial host of “Weekend Update,” starting each week with the catchphrase, “I’m Chevy Chase, and you’re not.”
After winning Emmys for writing and performing in 1976, Chase left “SNL” after one year to pursue a movie career (he was replaced by Bill Murray). He earned Golden Globe nominations as Best Comedy/Musical Actor...

It might be hard to believe that the director of a Harry Potter movie and Children of Men would be hard up for money, but that’s just the situation Alfonso Cuarón found himself in ahead of his next film, Gravity. Now, 10 years and just one movie on, the filmmaker is remembering how the screenplay came about just in time.
Speaking with Empire for a piece commemorating the 10th anniversary of Gravity, Cuarón remembered having to tell his son, Jonás, that the movie they had been collaborating on wasn’t going to be made and the clock was ticking for the team to deliver a script. “I was broke…and I really needed to put together something in order to pretty much survive.”
But it was just that sort of feeling of being lost that helped Cuarón and his son get the layout for Gravity down. “I said, ‘I’m feeling,...

One can never accuse director Zack Snyder of playing small or aiming low. The quality of his films varies wildly, but he always seems to want to tell the largest version of his stories possible. Perhaps most notorious in the director's filmography is his four-hour cut of "Justice League," a movie that he had to initially abandon due to a personal tragedy and then return to complete years later, using an additional $70 million. He's fond of overblown action, operatic visual bombast, and a lot -- a Lot -- of slow-motion photography. Snyder has amassed a strangely passionate following of fans who leap to the director's defense at every available opportunity, eager to point out that something profound might be happening in his typically turgid pictures.
Snyder's next film is called "Rebel Moon," and it is due to be released on Netflix on December 22, 2023. It has already been announced that it...

Making a top ten list of your favourite movies can be difficult, but is it any easier when you narrow that list down to a single decade? IndieWire asked dozens of filmmakers to put together a list of their favourite 80s movies, and the results are as widely varied as the decade itself. Which 80s movies does Bill Hader hold dear to his heart? What are some of Nia DaCosta’s favourites? Can Edgar Wright actually contain himself to just ten movies? What horror movies of the 80s top Eli Roth’s list?

It’s no mystery why Only Murders in the Building is killing it on Hulu. Besides the national obsession with true crime, there is a chemical reaction to the players which triggers a chaotic element unknown in forensics. Selina Gomez’s (occasionally “Bloody”) Mabel Mora ties up the loose ends. You might say she Martinizes them. It is harder to find looser ends than Steve Martin and Martin Short. As Charles-Haden Savage and Oliver Putnam, respectively, the two performers may stick to the scripts in the series, but they spent over a generation improvising over each other.
Martin and Short met while shooting the 1986 film Three Amigos! with Chevy Chase. Admiring new friend Steve’s opulent home, Martin was moved to ask “How did you get so rich,” he recalled on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, marveling at its improbability by admitting “I’ve seen your work.” They’ve been collaborating ever since,...

To celebrate the August 14 birthday of Steve Martin, we’ve got a special photo gallery featuring his 15 greatest films. The actor, comedian, writer, producer, playwright, author and musician is an American icon who has been celebrated at the Kennedy Center Honors and American Film Institute. He also received an honorary Oscar for his movie career in 2013.
Nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, six Grammy Awards (with five wins), as well as two Tony Awards, Martin is one of the great talents of the past few decades. There wasn’t a stand-up comedian alive in the mid-1970s who was on a hotter streak, and his first hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live” led to many more appearances. “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3 contains a cast of heavy hitters joining the staple trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. Each addition drives this season’s murder mystery, particularly Paul Rudd’s Ben Glenroy, whose second and certain death earns him consideration on the murder podcast.

All her life she has been waiting to hear the words he says to her after she finishes her monologue. Ben Glenroy brings some interesting people along with him — mainly his manager and adopted brother Dickey (Jeremy Shamos) and his cameraman Tobert (Jesse Williams). Although "Heaven's Gate" is now regarded in some circles as a misunderstood masterpiece, Michael Cimino's lavish box office flop had a lot to answer for at the time. Not only was it blamed for the death of the American New Wave, but it was also seen as the final nail in the coffin of the Western. Released in 1980, the subsequent decade was an especially fallow period for the genre, but at least we got "Three Amigos."
The drought lasted almost exactly 10 years until Kevin Costner's "Dances With Wolves" became a massive box office success and went on to win seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, reinvigorating the oldest and most resilient of U.S. genres once again. Two years after Costner's triumph, Clint Eastwood's harsh but lyrical "Unforgiven" was also a big hit with audiences and won the same big prizes at the Oscars. The Western was back.

"Community" was one of those shows that seemed to have a thousand in-jokes. When you watched it, you felt like part of a select group. That was partially because it was so twisty and deliciously odd that there was really no good way to describe it accurately. It's about a group of people who end up in the same study group at Greendale Community College, sure, but it's also full of improv, a monkey named Annie's Boobs, wild character twists, Ken Jeong living in a heating vent, and Betty White (Rip) rapping with Donald Glover and Danny Pudi.
Look, the show is weird and absolutely wonderful (I say from the middle of my fifth rewatch). That said, while you felt like one of the cool kids because you knew what the "gas leak year" was, a lot of people just didn't get it while it was on the air. The...

National Lampoon's "Animal House" is perhaps Hollywood's first party film. It's a beloved genre now, with notable entries like "Neighbors" and "Project X," but "Animal House" was a true pioneer in debauchery. It may have seemed like a non-stop rager in the Delta house, but believe it or not, the set was a strictly sober environment — at least, while the cameras were rolling.
"Animal House" was a fratty set from the very start. Director John Landis called all the Deltas to set a week before the rest of the cast to help them form a close-knit bond. One night, they went to a frat party and got in a fight with the real fraternity brothers there, The New York Times reported.
"That fight cemented us as a group," declared James Widdoes, who plays the high-strung chapter president Robert Hoover. After that, the Deltas took to partying in real life almost as much as their characters.

On the evening of July 23, 1982, “Animal House” director John Landis was filming a tricky nighttime helicopter scene for “Twilight Zone: The Movie.” The wide-open spaces of Indian Dunes, now part of Santa Clarita, Calif., were standing in for Vietnam, and the scene called for soldiers in a helicopter to pursue actor Vic Morrow, who was carrying two children. When the copter made a turn just above a large mortar round, the special effect explosive detonated, bringing down the helicopter and killing Morrow along with 7-year-old Myca Dinh Le and 6-year-old Renee Shin-Yi Chen.
The devastating accident shook Hollywood, and several months later, Variety announced that “Landis, pilot, others face ‘Twilight’ accident charges.” Landis and other “Twilight Zone” movie crew members were charged with involuntary manslaughter — the same charges “Rust” actor and producer Alec Baldwin and “Midnight Rider” director Randall Miller faced for their roles in on-set deaths.

Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu–the three Mexican filmmakers affectionately dubbed the Three Amigos in the movie industry–have five Academy Awards for Best Director between them. But they acknowledge that a good amount of their success comes in how “brutal” they get when it comes to critiquing each other’s films.
The Three Amigos sat down with Deadline to discuss this. As Cuarón put it, “When there are disagreements—when I want to do something specific, and one of them puts a red flag on it—I immediately know that it’s something I have to be cautious about…I mean, the communication between us is brutally honest. It is brutal. I have tried to have that kind of conversation with other peers, and they don’t like it.” Del Toro added, “The way we talk to each other, when Alfonso says brutal, he means brutal.

Alfonso Cuarón could tie a record just broken by Kenneth Branagh last year at the Academy Awards nominations announcement on Jan. 24.
As one of the producers for the Disney short “Le Pupille,” he could receive a nom in the best live action short category. The mention would mark the seventh Oscar category in which the filmmaker’s been recognized. He would be the second person ever to achieve this following Branagh last year with “Belfast,” in addition to being the first Latino.
The short film, directed by Alice Rohrwacher and co-produced by Carlo Cresto-Dina, Cuarón and Gabriela Rodriguez, who became the first Latina ever nominated for best picture with “Roma” (2018), looks into the minds of girls within the confines of a strict religious boarding school at Christmas.

Alejandro González Iñárritu is weighing in on the state of cinema amid the streaming era.
The “Bardo” director called out criticisms that movies are diluted based on viewing platforms, adding that films by the likes of Jean-Luc Godard or Federico Fellini still succeed on a small screen.
“What I’m concerned about is less the technology, and the ways that people are watching cinema, but that there’s a dictatorship of ideas behind that. It’s about the movies that are being made to please that media,” Iñárritu told Deadline while in conversation with fellow directors Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón. “If you watch a Fellini or a Godard movie on your computer, it’s still a great movie. It doesn’t change the power of the idea. But I think the ideas are being reduced to computer size in terms of ideology, and I think everybody is participating in that.

The last time Mexican filmmakers Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro, and Alejandro G. Iñárritu released three new movies in the space of the same year was 2006. By then, their reputations at home had been established by early successes like Y tu mamá también (Cuarón), The Devil’s Backbone (del Toro) and Amores Perros (Iñárritu) and they had each worked in the U.S., with del Toro and Cuarón stepping into blockbuster cinema with Hellboy and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban respectively, and Iñárritu directing Sean Penn and Naomi Watts to Oscar nominations with 21 Grams.
When they donned tuxedos to celebrate the 79th Academy Awards together on February 25, 2007, “The Three Amigos,” as they’d been dubbed, might have considered the evening a high watermark in their respective careers. The “Three Amigos,” as Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón and Alejandro G. Iñárritu are often called, united on stage at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday for a Netflix-hosted panel about their lives as Mexico’s three preeminent filmmakers.
The event was ostensibly focused on Iñárritu and del Toro’s Netflix-produced Oscar contenders, “Bardo” and “Pinocchio,” with Cuarón handling moderator duties.. But the three friends quickly turned it into a wide-ranging conversation about their artistry, collaboration, and of course, their eventual deaths.
“One thing we have in common is that we don’t have a difference between filmography and biography,” del Toro said at the beginning of the panel. “We make movies that reflect our lives, where we were in the beginning.”
That topic has certainly been on Iñárritu’s mind as he promotes the most personal film of his career, “Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.

The Three Amigos — nickname for the trio of Mexican Oscar-winning directors Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón — sat down for a rare 90-minute chat at the Academy Museum on Friday night, where the longtime friends bantered and dove into each other’s recent films.

Eugenio Caballero can conceive an enchanted forest and a disaster zone with equal levels of meticulous ingenuity. He can just as deftly recreate the space where an intimate memory occurred many decades ago, or a surrealist dream where reality and fantasy meet.

Alejandro González Iñárritu — the guest on this week’s episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of an audience of students at Chapman University — is a Mexican writer, director, producer, film editor and composer who was described by Roger Ebert as “unreasonably talented.” He has directed seven feature films over a period of 22 years: 2000’s Amores Perros, 2003’s 21 Grams, 2006’s Babel, 2010’s Biutiful, 2014’s Birdman, 2015’s The Revenant and 2022’s Bardo, the last four of which he also co-wrote.

Steve Martin and Martin Short have appeared in many projects together over the years, from "Three Amigos!" to "Only Murders In The Building." Their latest collaboration was co-hosting this weekend's episode of "Saturday Night Live" — they even delivered the monologue together.
Among the episode's sketches was a send-up of "Father of the Bride," the 1991 comedy starring the pair. The second adaptation of the 1949 novel, the film featured Martin as the titular father, George Banks, who is none too pleased when his 22-year-old daughter comes home from Europe with a fiancé in tow. Meanwhile, Short played the eccentric wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer, who pushes the event to luxurious (and expensive) extremes.

At this point, it would be hard not to know the story of "The Magnificent Seven," even if you've never seen the original 1960 Western classic. Of course, that's in large part due to the fact that the film itself was a remake of another classic, "Seven Samurai."
It's a story that's been told time and again, decade after decade: a small town is in trouble, being threatened by villains, and the townsfolk need to recruit hardened fighters to help them defend their land. Enter a group of misfit hired guns who protect the village, while at the same time helping the villagers learn how to protect themselves. You've seen the story repeated in "A Bug's Life," and "The Three Amigos," and even in an episode of "The Mandalorian."

Steve Martin is one of Hollywood's most beloved and iconic comedy stars. With over fifty years in the business, Martin has grown from a stand-up comic and "Saturday Night Live" regular to a respected comedy writer and actor. After breaking out to wider mainstream audiences with 1979's "The Jerk," Martin became a bonafide movie star. But the comedian has never stuck to one art form, publishing several books and plays -- not to mention Martin's music career too! Yes, he's known for taking on slapstick comedic roles that cast him as nonsensical or a highly intelligent neurotic. But Martin is also a critically acclaimed creative who received six Golden Globes nominations and eight Emmy nominations for his acting and writing chops.

Since a certain show about houses and dragons just wrapped, HBO Max has a big scheduling hole fill next month. How will they go about it? Let’s find out with the streamer’s list of new releases for November 2022!
Obviously, there is no replacing House of the Dragon‘s cultural impact so HBO is looking for some singles in November, rather than the homerun. Things get started on in promising fashion on Nov. 3. That date sees the premiere of Titans season 4 and the interesting true crime documentary Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty. The former will continue the adventures of DC’s heralded Titans team (and introduce some new heavy hitters) while the latter will try to keep pace with Netflix’s prolific true crime output.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, any movie that featured a Not Ready for Prime Time Player from the first five seasons of "Saturday Night Live" was a big deal. The show was an intoxicating mix of counterculture humor and hip comedic irreverence, and viewers were eager to see its stars break free from the watchful eye of network censors. John Belushi in "National Lampoon's Animal House," Bill Murray in "Meatballs," Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in "The Blues Brothers..." people showed up to these films primed to laugh, and, for the most part, they delivered.
This phenomenon coincided with the last days of the New Hollywood revolution powered by the likes of Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg. While most of these directors weren't interested in the raucous brand of comedy favored by the "SNL" gang, Spielberg wanted in on the fun. So after making two industry-altering...

In the late '70s and early '80s, comedians from "Saturday Night Live" made the transition to the big screen, and the move paid off big time. John Landis' "Animal House" provided a star vehicle for John Belushi, and the bawdy comedy made over 140 million against its modest 3 million budget (via Box Office Mojo). For their next trick, Belushi was joined by Dan Aykroyd for a big-budget version of their "SNL" musical act, "The Blues Brothers," which was another smash.
Arguably peak "SNL" at the movies came in 1984. "Beverly Hills Cop," starring Eddie Murphy, was the top-performing film domestically with 234 million, while "Ghostbusters" with Aykroyd and Bill Murray was a global sensation and became a pop culture phenomenon.
"Three Amigos," starring Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, was originally conceived in 1980 as a vehicle for - you guessed it - John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. By the time...

Try and find anyone who doesn't like Joe Dante's science fiction comedy "Innerspace." Whether you're a child of the '80s, you discovered the tiny adventures of Dennis Quaid and Martin Short on DVD and home video, or happened to catch it at a special theatrical screening, chances are you love this movie. The inventive story follows marine Lt. Tuck Pendleton (Quaid), an experimental test pilot who is accidentally injected into a civilian named Jack Putter (Short) after being scientifically miniaturized. Unfortunately, you probably did not see "Innerspace" when it first came out in theaters in July of 1987. That's a primetime summer blockbuster slot and the powers that be genuinely thought the combination of Dante's direction and state-of-the-art effects was going to result in a smash hit for Warner Brothers. Unfortunately, no one showed up to see it when it was originally released.
