Dorf should stick to golf
ryangilmer00722 February 2002
Dorf is funny in golf (at least in the two golf videos he's done), but he really is not funny in the other sports.

Perhaps, this is because golf has a stigma that bad golfers can still play the game (even with a horrendous handicap) and that golfers with nearly do anything to improve their game.

Well, Dorf does it all, he has gadgets and gismos, he has a stupid catty, that actually disproves his game (so much so that he was replaced for the other video), and he has a bomb shell vixen whom helps (or hinders his presentation).

Dorf should definitely stick to golf because his antics are funny on the linxs, but rather dry on either the diamond, the water, or in other sports.

Silly fun.

Tim Conway was a very funny guy. I was lucky enough to see him live with Harvey Korman back in 2004 (Westbury, NY). It was a great show. His "Dorf on Golf" video is also funny. I guess it's more silly than funny. It certainly has a lot of '80s straight-to-video charm to it. Because of its short running time( 30 minutes), "Dorf on Golf" is definitely worth a watch.

Warning: Spoilers
"Dorf on Golf" is a half-hour comedy short film directed by Emmy winner Roger Beatty back in 1987, so this one has its 30th anniversary this year. The star here is Tim Conway who plays the title character Dorf. And here I was thinking the name actually refers to the German word for "village". Anyway, Conway is also the writer for this one and maybe that's why it works out nicely. He has pretty spot-on line delivery most of the time and no surprise he is a Golden Globe winner. Conway is also still alive today (when I am writing this review) way into his 80s unlike his supporting actor Schiavelli who died a long time ago already, but he is still a face you will recognize immediately and who brings in some decent one-liner humor. And then there is some hot chick wearing not too much clothes who was also used nicely for comedic purposes in here. I remember this one airing in Germany really frequently a couple years ago and I knew it for a long time, actually so frequently that I somehow assumed this was a series and not a one-time movie. Oh well, this was actually successful enough for them to actually make a sequel, so you could even call it a duology. For me, honestly this resembled a lot these "how to" cartoons starring Goofy and yes there is one about golf as well. All in all, it may not be hole-in-one quality, but this one is easily under par and thanks to Conway's convincing performance I give it a thumbs-up. Go see it.

Only from the mind of TimConway

This is a one-of-a-kind thing, a sight gag gone berserk. Loved Tim Conway for years in McHale & with Carol B, Harvey & Vicki, this is like the icing on the cake. If for anything just to bring him together with the late Vincent Schiavelli for this short little ditty which did as much for golf pros of America as anything with the possible exception of Tiger (golf instruction increased a whopping 17% within three months of the release of this video, but the following is probably one of the all- time best rim shots... "Leonard, why don't you consider getting to bed a little early tonight? You wouldn't want to miss a visit from the IQ fairy."

I'll tell you what, why don't you run over there and get yourself a tuna fish sandwich? I hear that-a fish is-a real good for de brain.

Tim Conway played the Dorf, the golf expert. The episode is about Dorf on the golf course with Vincent Schiavelli as his caddy. The episode was shot on location and I recall Dorf videos were available only on VHS. I don't recall them airing on television. Tim Conway is enjoyable as always in this role. While the episode isn't too long, there are good laughs along the way. He can make golfing interesting to me and that's something.
