Austin, TX – The Red Carpet traditions at SXSW take on a different intensity, and the cast and production crew of “Magic City: An American Fantasy” walked the walk on March 12th, 2024. The documentary series is about a famous strip club in Atlanta that became a hangout for celebrities. One of the narrators in the doc is Atlanta’s own Killer Mike, and he was there.

The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, with the tenth day getting into the anti-festive spirit for all the holiday grinches out there. This is for those that approach December with a “bah humbug” attitude and prefer any iconography or holiday theming to be kept to a minimum when it comes to horror. Most of these ten horror titles are technically set on or around Christmas, but can’t muster up enough cheer to really embrace the holiday spirit. Many of which don’t even bother with Christmas at all, beyond a quick scene or mention.
If you’re already sick of Santa Claus, and all things holiday related, here are ten holiday horror movies – technically – that would rather just cut straight to the horror.
Keep track of the 12 Days of Creepmas here.

‘We Might Hurt Each Other’ – ‘Friday the 13th’-Inspired Slasher Hits Screambox *Tomorrow*! [Trailer]
Straight out of the Chattanooga premiere, Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting’s throwback slasher We Might Hurt Each Other (formerly Pensive) arrives on our Screambox streaming platform tomorrow!
The bloody Lithuanian teen horror was directed by Jonas Trukanas and stars Gabija Bargailaite (Pilgrims) and calls back to slasher classics like Friday the 13th.
Inspired by local legends, Pensive follows a group of privileged high school classmates. After these classmates destroy a set of life-size wooden statues during a wild graduation party, a mysterious masked killer begins picking the group off one by one.
Gory and glorious, Pensive is a gritty throwback to the 80s and the heyday of slasher cinema. Calling back to Friday the 13th, the filmmakers took what was great about the era and give it a refreshing lift with the infusion of Eastern European folklore. Check out the trailer below.
Other July highlights include The Exorcist writer William Peter Blatty...

I confess to having difficulty understanding Corinth’s curious repackaging of three monochrome 1950’s science-fiction films. Pulling together this triad of films – all previously issued as single disc releases from the label’s Wade Williams Collection - seems to make sense on one level. We’ll discuss later on. But for the record this DVD of Drive-In Retro Classics: Science Fiction Triple Feature brings together such disparate Silver Age favorites as Kurt Neumann’s Rocketship X-m (1950), Nathan H. Juran’s The Brain from Planet Arous (1958) and Robert Clarke’s The Hideous Sun Demon (1959).
Though he didn’t have anything to do with the production of any of the films listed above, Wade Williams has served as curator of the analog and digital legacy of many ‘50s sci-fi and horror titles. Though Williams would aspire as a filmmaker himself, the titles...

InterviewTNM caught up with Cbi series writer Sn Swamy for a chat, as the fifth edition of the movie, titled ‘Cbi 5: The Brain’, gets ready for release on May 1.Neelima MenonFacebookWhen Sn Swamy was planning to write a police story, it was Mammootty who felt that another cop might struggle to outshine the brilliance of the fiery inspector Balram in Avanazhi and suggested propelling a Cbi officer at the thick of things. And when Swamy had a name like Ali Imran in mind, it was Mammootty who suggested that the character be a Tamil Brahmin. Thus was born one of the most fascinating fictional characters in Malayalam cinema – Sethurama Iyer, the disarmingly calm Cbi officer who never raises his voice and thinks on his feet. Oru Cbi Diary Kurippu, which came in 1988, was the highest grosser in Malayalam that year and ran for a full year in Tamil Nadu.

A wee bit of catch up this weekend with our friends down at the Panama Horror Film Fest. Panama Horror was able to return to in-person this year after a couple of years of concessions due to the global health crisis. The festival concluded the other week and we have the awards wrap up to share with you today. Spanish horror flick Jacinto, starring the recently deceased Pedro Brandariz Gomez, was awarded in the feature film category. Two other categories of note were the Tanu Distribution Award, which gives a short film further distribution in 15 Latin American festivals. This was awarded to the Panamanian short film, Escúchame (The Brain) by Alberto Serra. The other big 'award' at the fest was the submission of a Panamanian...

My, my, my. How Farr we have come! I know, I know, it's terribly punny, but it's the season finale! I won't have another chance for Months.
By any measure, Doom Patrol Season 3 Episode 10 is a solid landing for a season that took us into the Afterlife, backward and forwards in time, and then into the subconscious.
Admittedly, we still have no idea where that lone zombie were-butt has gone or what the alarm in the library does if you answer it in time, but with a Season 4 renewal in the bag, we can hope those answers will be forthcoming. Or Fourth-coming even? Okay, okay, I'll stop.
I've called this the Season of Rouge before, and I stick by that moniker since, as of Doom Patrol Season 3 Episode 9, she'd managed to evolve from jaunty amnesiac to enthusiastic time detective to malfunctioning shape-shifter to unrepentant Beatrice Arnold.

Chicago – Who are the voices in our lives that really matter? If you were a cartoon fan in the 1980s and ‘90s then it was Rob Paulsen, the source for Pinky (“Pinky & the Brain”), Yakko (“Animaniacs”) and a myriad of others. Recently Paulsen beat cancer, which threatened his career, and he tells the story in the new book … “Voice Lessons.”
The subtitle of “Voice Lessons” is “How a Couple of Ninja Turtles, Pinky and an Animaniac Saved My Life” (written with Michael Fleeman) and to know Rob Paulsen is to realize his deep appreciation and love behind his creations. But beyond that passion, he also is endeared to the admirers of his work, the millions of children and now grown-ups who continue to embrace his characters and the voice behind them. Beating his cancer gave Paulsen a new purpose in his life, to use his gifts “…on the biggest scale I can.

Scream Factory is set to release a double dose of classic horror with The Brain and Tarantula, and Vinegar Syndrome is keeping busy with their terror-inducing trio of titles: The Corruption of Chris Miller, Grandmother’s House, and Darkroom.
Kino Lorber is also giving Hannibal (2001) the 4K treatment this week, and if you happened to miss them during their limited releases, both The Hole in the Ground and Level 16 are very much worth your time.
Other Blu-ray and DVD releases for April 30th include City of the Vampires, Deadly Crush, Emanuelle and Francoise, Death Warmed Up, and Motel Mist.

Over the last couple of weeks, we finally got some concrete details on The Batman. With Ben Affleck confirmed to not be returning as the Dark Knight, Matt Reeves’ movie will be more of a detective tale that makes use of a wide rogues gallery of Batman’s greatest villains. As ever, though, one or two have got to take center stage and while we’ve known for a while that the Penguin is Reeves’ pick for the main antagonist, some new intel might confirm who the second central villain will be.
According to We Got This Covered’s sources, the casting breakdown for The Batman listed the film’s secondary bad guy as “The Brain.” Now, DC fans will know that there’s a comic book supervillain called the Brain – literally a brain in a robotic suit – who’s a frequent enemy of the Doom Patrol, but he doesn...

Scream Factory is kicking off the new year with a bunch of new Blu-ray announcements, and the fun continues today with two new additions to their upcoming releases: 1972's Grave of the Vampire and 1988's The Brain.
From Scream Factory: "The 80s VHS staple sci-fi/horror The Brain arrives on Blu-ray for the first time with a planned date of April 30th!
Imagine a pulsating mass of gray matter, expanding in size and strength as it takes control of human minds and devours human bodies. It could never happen, right? Just watch Independent Thinking, starring Dr. Anthony Blakely, a hot new TV program. But as the show's ratings continue to soar, so does the suicide and murder rate among its viewers. What they don't know is that Dr. Blake has teamed with an alien brain and plans to gain control of all humanity. From the Director of Bloody Birthday.

Greetings, everyone! Welcome to what is the final Blu-ray and DVD recap of 2018, as it seems like we have no major genre home media releases coming home next week on Christmas. That being said, the year is ending on a strong note, as we have a number of essential titles hitting various formats this Tuesday.
Scream Factory is keeping busy with their Collector’s Edition releases of Dracula: Prince of Darkness as well as John Carpenter’s Starman (two of my personal favorites!), and Arrow Video has put together a stellar Special Edition of Bloody Birthday for this week as well. As far as recent theatrical titles go, The House With a Clock in Its Walls, The Predator, A Simple Favor, and Venom all arrive on various formats this Tuesday, and if you’re a completist, there’s a 4-film collection of the Predator movies that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has assembled,...

The 1981 Slasher Classic Bloody Birthday will be available on Blu-ray December 18th From Arrow Video
The Bad Seed meets Halloween in this deliciously twisted early 80s slasher offering directed by Ed Hunt (The Brain) and starring the always loveable Lori Lethin.
Debbie, Curtis and Steven may seem cute as buttons. But their angelic facade conceals the wicked, murderous streak given to them having all been born under the same solar eclipse. With the grown-ups around them blissfully unaware of their little darlings homicidal tendencies, the evil brats begin to bump off the adults one-by-one. By gun. By arrow. By cake. Bye-bye!
Mixing the killer-kid subgenre with elements of the then-booming slice-and-dice movie, 1981 s Bloody Birthday shocks and appalls with its scenes of young children shooting, strangling and bludgeoning their way through the local population. They sure don t (and can t!) make em like this anymore.

Blame The Bad Seed (1956) for every murderous moppet that has skipped across the screen in subsequent years. Village of the Damned, The Omen, The Good Son, The Children, and many more have explored the taboo of killer kiddies. One of the oddest of the bunch is Ed Hunt’s Bloody Birthday (1981), a ridiculously fun turn with not just one, but three mini-Mansons on hand to clean up the schoolyard.
Well, that’s a bit of a misnomer, as our rascally trio tends to focus on grown ups, what with their stupid rules against homicide and premature burial. (Don’t worry – one of the protagonists is a classmate who is put in mortal danger. All’s fair.) Bloody Birthday was rolled out twice; first in limited release in April of ’81, and then in ’86 (also limited release). The film made its money back but didn’t earn any good grace from critics...

We take a look at some of the most memorable and freaky floating brains and flying heads in the history of cinema...
Nb: The following contains spoilers for The Brain From The Planet Arous and Prometheus.
For some reason we've yet to discover, cinema has, for decades, been home to all manner of sentient, disembodied heads and floating brains. Note that we’re not talking about decapitations here - though goodness knows that cinema is home to plenty of those, from Japanese samurai epics to modern slasher horrors.
No, we’re talking about movies where heads and brains remain sentient even when they’re stuffed into jars or colossal things made of stone. Sometimes used for comedic effect, at other times for shock value, they’re a surprisingly common phenomenon in the movies. Here, we celebrate a few of our absolute favourites - though you’re sure...

1985. Horror was going through a sea change on the film front, as slashers were shown the door and creature features became the cool kids on campus again. People lined up to see vampires (Fright Night) and werewolves (Silver Bullet) and zombies (Day of the Dead), oh my—but my favorite subgenre, the Mad Scientist, came roaring back to life with director Stuart Gordon’s (From Beyond, Dagon) manic masterpiece debut, Re-Animator.
Released in October, Re-Animator proved once again that when properly executed, horror and humor are delightful bedfellows, co-conspirators with the noblest of intentions: to entertain. Horror, while certainly not easy to do well (scroll through Netflix on any given day), has it made in the shade compared to comedy. Humor is more subjective, and what rubs me as funny may chafe you as stupid or insipid. Most people will agree that The Exorcist is terrifying, but not everyone likes...

Deranged killers, gore, Poe, and plenty of Brad Dourif. Here's our pick of 20 great, underappreciated films from the 1990s...
It's sometimes said that the 1990s wasn't a great time for horror films. But while lots of disappointing franchise sequels crowded their way into cinemas or the lower shelves of video stores, there were also plenty of fantastic examples of the familiar chill. Bernard Rose's Candyman was one of the very best of the decade; Wes Craven's New Nightmare was an intelligent reworking of a flagging series; The Ring introduced a new strain of Japanese horror to a global audience.
Then there are the less well-known horror movies from the decade - ones which either didn't do very well in the cinema or didn't make it to the big screen at all. With the exception of one Japanese film, we've gone for a selection of films...

This week’s Blu-ray and DVD releases are an eclectic bunch, to say the least. Not only is Steve Miner’s criminally overlooked horror/comedy creature feature Lake Placid swimming its way onto Blu-ray, but Severin Films is also releasing a trio of controversial cult classics- Bloody Moon, The Baby and Bloody Birthday-all in high definition for the first time ever.
The Time Machine is also getting a Blu-ray release this week, along with Gareth Evans’ stunning action masterpiece The Raid 2 and a handful of indie horror films, including the wickedly entertaining horror musical Stage Fright starring Minnie Driver and Meat Loaf. Overall, it’s a good week to be a genre fan with oddball tastes because there’s a whole lot of wonderfully weird stuff arriving this Tuesday.
Spotlight Titles:

The Brain From The Planet Arous (1957)
It's been several years since I've seen the sci-fi B-movie, The Brain From Planet Arous, but one thing is still clear in my mind: that it features a large disembodied alien brain, a criminal brain, no less, that comes to Earth to control the population with its psychic powers.
