Korean horror has tackled some pretty wacky subjects over the last few years, having dealt with haunted shoes, musical instruments, and even wigs. Now, director Yoon Jae Yeon takes things a step further with “Yoga”, a film about supernatural stretching exercises, a premise sure to strike terror into the hearts of viewers everywhere. All flippancy aside, Yoon is certainly a proven success in the field, having helmed “Whispering Stairs”, and the film features a very impressive collection of female stars, headlined by the gorgeous Eugene (“Romantic Island”), with Cha Soo Yeon (also in the disturbing “Beautiful”) in a creepy role, and with Park Han Byul (“Wishing Stairs”), Cho Eun Ji (“Forever the Moment”), Kim Hye Na (“Red Eye”), Hwang Seung Eon (“A Blood Pledge”), and Lee Young Jin (“Memento Mori”) in support. The plot follows Eugene as Hyo Jung, the co-host of a shopping channel lingerie show. After she is...

John Mayer, Andrea Bocelli, Norah Jones, Casting Crowns all outsell 50's latest on Billboard albums chart.

50 Cent's Before I Self Destruct
Photo: Interscope
In a stunning turnabout, 50 Cent will notch the lowest chart debut of his career next week when his long-delayed Before I Self Destruct lands at #5 on comparatively soft sales of 160,000. After his first two albums hit #1, selling 872,000 (Get Rich or Die Tryin') and 1.15 million (The Massacre), and 2007's Curtis sold 691,000 following an infamous chart battle with Kanye West, this fifth-place finish is a major comedown.
Who bested the once-dominant G-Unit General? According to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, Twitter-lover John Mayer's Battle Studies took the top spot with sales of 286,000, followed by My Christmas by tenor Andrea Bocelli (185,000), the debut of Norah Jones' rock-tinged Fall (180,000) and Christian rock group Casting Crowns' Until the Whole World Hears (167,000).

Bon Jovi score their fifth chart topper with their eleventh studio album "The Circle" which takes the top spot of Billboard Hot 200 with 163,000 copies sold. The band's previous No. 1 record was "Lost Highway" which bowed with 292,000 in 2007.
Following Bon Jovi's victory on the U.S. albums chart, last week's champ Carrie Underwood's "Play On" is forced to fall to No. 3 with 128,000 (down 60%). Meanwhile, Andrea Bocelli's "My Christmas" which previously occupied the spot jumps to the runner-up position with additional 136,000 units.
Beside the album from Jon Bon Jovi-fronted band, another new release which succeeds on cracking the top 10 of Hot 200 is the one which belongs to band Flyleaf. "Memento Mori" which becomes their sophomore set claims the No. 8 position with 56,000 copies.

Bon Jovi's The Circle

Music fans appear to have taken a break from holiday shopping last week, as sales of the top albums took a noticeable dip, and the latest #1 debut did just about half the business Carrie Underwood's Play On did the week before to hit #1.
Jersey icons Bon Jovi take over the top spot on next week's Billboard albums chart with their latest, The Circle, which sold just about 163,000 copies according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. That was just over half of what the band's previous #1, the country-tinged Lost Highway, did in its first week in 2007. It was enough, however, to keep tenor Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas at #2 (136,000) and to knock Underwood down to #3 (128,000) as her second-week sales plummeted by 60 percent.

As we've mentioned previously, November 10th is the release date of the band Flyleaf's new CD, entitled Memento Mori, and to help celebrate the occasion, their bass player, Pat Seals, has taken time out of his hectic schedule to prepare for Dread Central readers a list of his Top Ten favorite horror films.
Nothing relieves the stress of the holidays -- or anything really -- like a good horror flick, and Pat certainly has prepared an eclectic catalog that shows he knows his shit about our genre.
Without further ado, here's Pat's list (click each image to see the full poster):
1. The Addiction (1995) - Dir. Abel Ferrara, Starring Lili Taylor
This is my favorite vampire movie. It is the best. The best. Morality and the darkness of human nature are the focus, and Lili Taylor's performance is brutal. Plus, Christopher Walken waltzes in for a philosophical cameo. The...

We've all heard the Latin term Memento Mori and have a good idea of what it means. But what about its literal translation, "Remember you will die"? What does that have to do with the band Flyleaf and their reasons for selecting the phrase as the title of their new album? To help clarify things, we've got an exclusive look at one of the webisodes the group has put together for their upcoming sophomore effort, Memento Mori.
In this new webisode (which is #4 in a series of 6), the members of Flyleaf discuss the photo shoot and packaging for the album, which hits stores next week on November 10th in both regular and deluxe editions.

You can miss a lot when you're on tour for nearly seven years.
For Lacey, the lead singer of Flyleaf, going on tour meant not being able to watch her younger sister, who was 10 when Lacey left, grow up.
With the impending release of Memento Mori, Flyleaf's long-awaited second album, she and guitarist Jared Hartmann opened up to MTV News about life away from the tour bus and the meaning behind their new music.
Lacey, who is from Arlington, Texas, said it was weird coming back home after being on tour for so long because the small town she grew up in got so much bigger. While most of us would love a seven-month vacation — especially after what seemed like seven straight years of working — Lacey couldn't stay away too long. Even during her break she said she and the band continued to work on the album,...

Flyleaf frontwoman Lacey has been to hell and back. And now she wants to help others with their voyages.
Growing up in a broken home, she began experimenting with drugs at the age of 10, contemplated suicide as a teenager and finally found salvation in her faith. It's a backstory that's as sordid as it is public ... she talks about it openly, and, as a survivor, she's not ashamed of any of it.
In fact, most of her band's new album, Memento Mori, due November 10, is about that trip from darkness to light and about guiding others on their journeys.

Remember books? You know those collections of paper that had writing on them? Think analog websites. Well, back in the olden days, they could be as scary as movies.
I grew up a bookworm courtesy of my parents. They read constantly, and made sure I had a library card as soon as I could read. (Libraries = analog ISPs.) I devoured horror paperbacks, and in one notable reading marathon, read Audrey Rose, beginning to end, in one 24 hour sitting. I even spent the summer I turned 12 working at Aunt Bonnie’s Used Books in Helena, Mt. No salary; I was paid in all the paperbacks I could lug home, which meant my collection of horror movie novelizations grew into the hundreds. (I sold them all in college for money and have spent the last decade buying them all again.)
Now it’s the future, and more and more people turn to the Internet for reading material.

Flyleaf are a band on the verge. Following the success of their self-titled 2005 debut (which moved 1 million copies), they are finally ready to release the follow-up, Memento Mori.
For the album's first single, the bracing rocker "Again," they teamed up with director Meiert Avis (who has helmed clips for a diverse list of artists, including Avril Lavigne, U2, Jack's Mannequin, Audioslave and Bruce Springsteen) for a video that acts as a statement of purpose for who they are and what they've been thinking about.

Flyleaf have basically spent the past seven years on the road. Driven by a seemingly otherworldly determination, they've played hundreds of gigs (including shows in Afghanistan), logged thousands of miles and basically willed sales of their self-titled 2005 debut past the 1 million mark.
Not surprisingly, it hasn't exactly been a picnic.
"We've seen so, so much. Good times, really bad, really trying times, all of it," frontwoman Lacey said. "We've encountered near-death experiences and death experiences so often within these past few years that we've been reminded that we are mortal and our days our precious. That's what we've learned from all this, and that's the message we want to spread."

One of the prevalent (and, frankly, valid) criticisms of The Haunting In Connecticut upon its theatrical release earlier this year was one that has been leveled at many films of its ilk: to wit, why don’t the characters just leave the house when the scary things start happening? One of the commentary tracks on Haunting’s recently released DVD, the filmmakers offer an explanation that the movie itself does not: Because they can’t afford to.
That would seem to make Haunting rather timely given the current housing crisis, except that it’s “Based on True Events” that occurred a couple of decades ago. The initially uninitiated could be forgiven for thinking that those “true events” were the ones that took place in Amityville, as Haunting’s story follows the template of Amityville Horror and countless similar features, with strange sounds, apparitions and incidents plaguing the Campbell family in their new dwelling,...

Never mind that silly rumored November release date. Lionsgate has announced a July 14th bow for their box office success, The Haunting in Connecticut.
DVD Active reports that the film will be available in an extended cut on both Blu-ray and DVD. Extra features are as follows:
Audio commentary with director Peter Cornwell, co-writer Adam Simon, producer Andrew Trapani, and editor Tom Elkins Audio commentary with the director and actors Virginia Madsen and Kyle Gallner Deleted scenes with optional director commentary Featurettes: "Two Dead Boys: Making of The Haunting in Connecticut", "The Fear is Real: Re-Investigating the Haunting", "Memento Mori: The History of Post Mortem Photography", “Anatomy of a Haunting" Digital copy of the film Looks like a decent haul of supplementary material (put together by our own Andrew Kasch, David Rosiak, and Buz Wallick) to keep horror fans in out of the sweltering summer heat. Check out the cover art below!
