Educational Documentary
ryangilmer0077 June 2000
This movies follows the lives of 4 girls for 4 years. We are first introduced to Anna, Lisa, De'yona, and Raelene and then given 10-15 synopsi of a year in their lives. The years are progressed to through on screen divisions. By the end of the film, the girls current status is given. Neither girl's life can be predicted, but they all deal with teenage pregnancy, family support, and educational attainment. Despite (or because of its subject matter), the film is a good/educational study of adolescence and it yields different insights during each viewing.

Quite engrossing
herbqedi18 July 2002
Four girls from different areas and different ethnic groups in South Philadelphia. We watch them change as people, and in three of the four cases mature, as their goals change, their bodies change, and their feelings change. The similarities are as striking as the differences. This is briskly paced, engrossing and well worth watching. I give it an 8 out of 10.

update on one of the girls
maandpawolf25 February 2004
This is to update viewers of the film regarding one of the girls. Raelene was killed in a car accident in Oct 2002. She was 23 years old and left behind 4 children. She was so proud of this film and hoped it would help other young girls to realize where they wanted to be in their life. The end of film, with Raelene and Sam's marriage, ended in divorce. She married and divorced yet again and was engaged at the time of her death. As you watch the film, think of her search to find love and acceptance. The film is so truthful to who she was and how hard she tried to find her way. The film shows how she tried to find love with different men and continued after the film ended.

insightful documentary with a few surprises

A friend reccommended this film to me and I was reluctant to watch it. Why would the lives of four teen-aged girls be interesting to me ? Well, although every news magazine from 20/20 to Dateline has done this kind of expose', it was obvivious from the start that Ms. Di Feliciantonio and Ms. Wagner got these girls to open up on a more intimate level than any investigative reporter could. This film shows that teen-aged girls are smarter than society gives them credit for.
