Sex & Nudity

  • There are references to homosexuality...both verbal and physical actions.
  • Sex is implied though all that is briefly seen is bare legs and a woman's bathing suit bottoms around her ankles.
  • A nude man's backside is shown as he gets out of a bathtub, but it is dark and shadowy. Another man looks at him for a second.
  • Two brief instances in which a man's genitals can be seen. In the first scene, his crotch area is quite shaded, but it's clear enough to see. The second time it's shown as a man stands up, and is very brief. Both scenes are a blink-and-you'll-miss-it type of scene.

Violence & Gore

  • A man slaps another man several times and nearly punches him with his raised fist. The man then slices him on the head with an oar, causing a great deal of blood to gush out of his wounds. Bleeding profusely, the man then grabs him and tries to strangle him. The attacker eventually gains control and pushes the oar down into his body, and then delivers several severe, fatal blows to him (our view of that impact is blocked by the boat that they're in).
  • A man repeatedly bludgeons a man over the head with a bust like sculpture, killing him (we only see the first few impacts, but do see that the bust is now bloody) parts of his brain blood is seen splattering on the bust.
  • A body is seen by many people floating in the ocean. The corpse is pulled to shore and people weep.
  • A woman hits a man repeatedly. No serious injuries.
  • A man slaps another man's face and arms repeatedly.
  • A man falls off his moped and has welts on one side of his face.

Profanity

  • Characters prepare alcoholic drinks.
  • 'Ass' is said twice.
  • 'Cock' is said once.
  • 'Goddamn' is said once.
  • The Lord's name is taken in vain, 'God' is said eight times.
  • 'Fuck' is said four times, including in a sexual context.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Many of the characters drink in several scenes through.
  • A scene takes place in a bar.
  • Many characters smoke throughout, including Marge and Meredith.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A floating body is shown.
  • A character who has murdered approaches a woman with intentions to kill her as well.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A man uses a oar and hits another man in the face on a boat, and blood starts dripping out. Then the man uses the same oar to hit him on the head several times. The injured man is then strangled to dead. A lot of blood, the man dies slowly. We later see the boat soaking with blood.
  • A man hits another man over the head with an oar in a fit of rage. The wound at first doesn't seem serious but then the man's face splits slightly and begins to bleed profusely. The men then begin a life and death struggle and one then proceeds to beat him the other to death.
  • A person is beaten to death with a stone bust. (The person's bloody head is seen as well as blood and brain matter on the bust.)
  • Choking sounds are heard of a man strangling another man, but it is not shown.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The very ending of the movie is quite disturbing because the sounds are heard of a man crying as he strangles his lover to death.
  • The killing scenes might be unsettling to some viewers.
