Taylor's review for technology assignment #2
When we were young, our parents taught us to stand up for what we thought was right; to always do the right thing. But while we may have wanted to, sometimes we were too scared, and didn't. There's nothing wrong with being scared but if we always just sit back and let the cards play out the way they fall then nothing would ever change. We must be just and understanding but also we cannot just go through life wondering what if what if I stood up for that little boy in fourth grade that was being picked on by the bully in school? Or, what if I would NOT have just watched my friends pick on the kids that didn't fit in? Or, what if I would have stepped in between my boss and his words that were sinful and wrong? Would things be different, or would they be the same. I don't honestly know how to change everything to be right, but I do try to stand for the things I believe in. But what amazes me is how people can put everything on the line just to do what they think is right, or just to stand up for the wrongs that have been created by our society. I mean just look at Martin Luther King Jr. He did remarkable things that I would have never been able to do. The unbelievable activist and civil rights movements that he initiated or lead to help the people of the nation that were being mistreated and abused are incredible to me. The documentaries about him are endless, there are so many. But one of my favorites is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A Historical Perspective directed by Thomas Friedman. It shows not only his activist movements on civil rights but also shows parts of his story that you would never know. It shows how he did such an outstanding job leading the African-Americans to a great "victory", gaining the right to vote and to equality. Now no law that is passed is ever perfect, there are always people who are going to disobey the law, but getting congress and the supreme court to pass these laws was a huge step in gaining the respect and the equality that they rightfully deserved. Now, I know what you're thinking . You already knew that. But I bet most of you didn't know that he also stood up for the sinful acts of the Vietnam War. He lost a lot of political allies because he didn't agree with the war and preached to say that the war was wrong. And maybe you did know that, but I sure didn't. The things that people can and will do for what they believe is right is amazing to me. It is incredible how people are so righteous and active to pursue the wrongs of this world and to make them disappear. I would highly recommend watching this film; it was very well done and inspired me to stand up for what I believe in.
