Warning: Spoilers
The first "Mondo Cane", from 1962, was (as far as I remember) a fairly respectable documentary. This film, which is apparently the second "official" sequel (although many "unofficial" ones have preceded it), is impossible to take seriously, mainly due to the incredibly condescending and cheeky American narration (at least on my copy, re-titled "Savage World Today"). The narrator sets the tone early on: observing a group of nudists, he says "No, they haven't lost their clothes. Just their minds". Much of the footage is lame (are jogging and bodybuilding and collecting sea weed "phenomenons"? What about that old lady chasing around a young stud in Hawaii?), and a lot of it appears to be staged or interpreted at the narrator's will. But there are also some NAUSEATING scenes here, from real animal death footage to graphic autopsy scenes that are either real or portrayed with incredibly realistic special effects. Gruesome highlight: a sex-change operation, shown in all its graphic "glory". (*1/2)
