Voice actor Maurice Lamarche is one of the preeminent elder statesmen of his craft. He started his career in stand up, finding he was a talented mimic, moving into animation in 1980. He appeared in hit shows like "Inspector Gadget" and "Transformers," really hitting his stride in 1985 playing Ego Spengler in "The Real Ghostbusters." He cycled through the KidsWB canon aggressively in the late '80s and early '90s, appearing in "Taz-Mania," "Batman: The Animated Series," "Tiny Toon Adventures," "Freakazoid!," and "Animaniacs" wherein he employed his spot-on Orson Welles impersonation to voice the power-hungry mouse the Brain. His largest sampling of voice caricatures came from his work on the 1994 series "The Critic," where he voiced celebrities ranging from William Shatner to Elizabeth Taylor (but only when she was belching).
In 1999, Lamarche became one of the regulars on Mat Groening's and David X. Cohen's sci-fi sitcom "Futurama" where he played Kif,...

Teenager Meg Griffin isn’t only an afterthought to her family (cartoon dad Peter regularly forgets about her existence even when she’s standing right next to him), the character also didn’t appear in the 1995 student film from which Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane developed his hit animated comedy.
MacFarlane made animated short ‘The Life of Larry’ while studying at the Rhode Island School of Design in the 1990s. It featured “loveable but tactless lower middle class” dad Larry, his supportive wife Lois, their heavy-set blonde, baseball-cap-wearing son Milt, and “incisive, cynical” talking dog named Steve, plus all the cutaway gags and pop culture parodies for which Family Guy would become famous… but no super-intelligent baby, and no butt-of-every-joke teenage daughter Meg.
One-off 1997 sequel ‘Larry and Steve’ lost Larry’s wife and son to focus on the talking dog, but by the time of the seven-minute 1998 Family Guy pilot,...

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" introduced a bevy of incredible characters, but not all of them got the same amount of love and attention. Some characters, like Spike (James Marsters), were supposed to be killed off instantly but stayed on the show because the audience would have rioted if he died. Others, like Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg), were absolutely instrumental to the narrative but totally hated by the show's fans.
Not only did "Buffy" buffs despise the Slayer's younger sister, but the writers also had trouble effectively working her into the show. Dawn was memorably introduced in season 5 under mystical circumstances but, in the final two seasons, she was left to her own devices as a regular teenage girl. The character re-introduced the coming-of-age themes at the show's high school roots, but her lack of powers and combat experience also made her far less exciting than most of the other characters.

It's been nearly forty years, but people still remember "The A-Team." The action adventure series went on for five seasons, but stuck around in the public consciousness for much, much longer. People still remember the theme song, the cartoonish violence, the catchphrases. But although many viewers throughout the 2000s wanted a revival of the show, the TV series itself never came back.
Instead, we got a feature film in 2010 starring an updated A-Team, with the characters being veterans of the Iraq War instead of veterans of Vietnam. The film underperformed at the box office, however, and they never made a sequel. Unlike "21 Jump Street," a franchise where the later movies have now long-since overshadowed the TV show for most younger viewers, when people of all ages today think of "The A-Team," they're still almost certainly thinking of the show.
So what have the cast members been up to since...

Today came the sad news that Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell died at 56. Smash Mouth is undoubtedly best known today for the fact their 1999 hit song "All Star" played at the very beginning of the first "Shrek" movie. Like with everything else related to "Shrek," the song has become a bit of a meme.
It's easy to forget, however, that before "Shrek" debuted at Cannes and went on to win the very first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, "All Star" was a smash hit way before Shrek. It was considered one of the best songs of 1999 and even got nominated for the Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal Grammy. While "Shrek" immortalized it, it was actually another film from 2001 that gave us the best use of "All Star," and one of the best endings to a movie of the last 20 years.

Frank Welker is one of the highest-grossing actors of all time. He has appeared in some of the biggest blockbusters ever which have, collectively, earned over $17 billion. Children everywhere can likely recognize Welker's voice on the spot, as he played Freddy in the original "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" TV series, a role he continued to play until the present day. Skeletor has triumphed over the forces of Eternia, as TheWrap has confirmed that Netflix has scuttled its iteration of the long-developing “Masters of the Universe” movie.
Mattel will be searching for a new producing/distribution partner for a big-budget adaptation of the 1980s action figure property, with at least $30 million in development costs already spent since 2007 in prior attempts to make a new movie. This latest version had Kyle Allen — still officially attached — starring as He-Man with Adam and Aaron Nee (“The Lost City”) set to direct.
The project has been bouncing around Hollywood for over 15 years, with Warner Bros. and Sony, as well as filmmakers like Jon M. Chu and McG temporarily involved. This recent attempt was shelved due to concerns over the budget, which reportedly ran over $200 million and was shut down even after the filmmakers allegedly brought the costs below $180 million.

Chinese video streaming firm iQiyi has teamed with Canada’s Wildbrain to jointly produce kids’ animation series “Jonny Jetboy.” The series was hatched by Keith Chapman, creator of “Paw Patrol” and “Bob The Builder” and will run to an initial forty 11-minute episodes.
The story follows Jonny Jones, the youngest member of a family of heroes as he learns to become a superhero like his JetForce family. They are committed to protecting the high-tech city Calamity Canyon, from its many villains. Jonny wields a JetGlove and is the fastest member of the force, but often he struggles to control his special powers.
The deal marks first global partnership for original China IP struck by WildBrain’s dedicated Shanghai team. Now under way, production is taking place at China’s WingSing Animation Studio with WildBrain acting as supervisor. Delivery is scheduled for 2023.
The Canadian company is also handling global distribution and licensing outside of Greater China.

There's a form of problem solving known as a Fermi estimate. It's used in physics education, it's a way to get a good approximation with small amounts of data. The example I first encountered was not the eponymous Enrico's surmise as to the strength of 'The Gadget' that ushered in the Atomic age. It was about piano tuners.
How many piano tuners are there in Chicago? How many people live there? How many have pianos? How often does a piano need tuned? By assembling a succession of estimates, occupying a weird interzone between kenning and Bayesian probability and upper and lower bounds, you will get to an answer that has a high degree of rightness. It may not be the correct answer, but it will do.
So, two questions. Firstly, how many films seem drawn from the pages of The New Yorker, one of those literary fiction shorts in one of the.

Bill & Ted Face the Music is Out Now! Excellent! (Loud screeching guitar solo). And really, the dim time-traveling duo have returned just when we need them the most. Since first making their debut in the 1989 sleeper hit Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, these characters — portrayed with glee by Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves — have become that unique thing: A sci-fi/comedy franchise that somehow is both a cult sensation and a mainstream success. Following the unexpected success of the first film, the sequel Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey was released in the summer of 1991. Fans expecting more of the same were instead treated to a rumination on life and death that featured everything from aliens to evil robot doppelgangers of our leads. But the inventiveness of Bill and Ted creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon worked against him, and the film went underappreciated during its original run.

We Are One: A Global Film Festival starts May 29 at YouTube.com/WeAreOne, and continues for 10 days with a slew of films and pre-recorded conversations from 21 festivals. The selections will stream for free on YouTube during their scheduled times.
Of course, it’s easy enough to get lost on YouTube, but the We Are One programming has enough reliable perspectives to make the exploration worthwhile: Participating festivals include Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Toronto, New York, BFI London, Karlovy Vary, and Locarno. While only 13 of the 100 films are world premieres, the lineup provides a diverse window into different curatorial sensibilities, festival events, and filmmaker perspectives.

Last week, NetherRealm Studios opened some eyes with the announcement trailer for Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. The ultra-violent fighting game will update with a new storyline campaign, Friendships, Stage Fatalities, and three new characters. Sheeva the Shokan Queen and Fujin the God of Wind are fairly interesting if you’re familiar with Mortal Kombat, but the big news is the inclusion of RoboCop.
RoboCop is just the latest of the many intriguing guest characters who have joined the Mortal Kombat roster through Dlc. Mortal Kombat 9 had Freddy Krueger. Mortal Kombat X had Jason Voorhees, the Predator, Leatherface, and the Alien Xenomorph. Mortal Kombat 11 already has the Terminator, Joker, and Spawn. Now it’s Alex Murphy’s moment to shine.
While his brief appearance in that trailer was neat, there was still a question of what he’d look like in action. RoboCop, while badass as all get-out, isn’t really...

A remake of the 1980s teen space adventure “Space Camp” is in development at Disney+, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
“Saturday Night Live” writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell are writing the script. John Rickard (“Rampage”) is producing.
“Space Camp” followed a group of teenagers who attended an astronaut camp near Cape Canaveral, Florida. When they are sitting in a space shuttle during an engine test, they are accidentally launched into space and they must work together to bring the shuttle back to earth.

Disney is in early development on a live-action “Inspector Gadget” movie and has set up the project with “Aladdin” producers Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich at their Rideback banner.
Disney has hired Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell, best known as “Saturday Night Live” writers, to work on the script.
“Inspector Gadget” originated in 1983 as an animated science-fiction comedy co-created by Bruno Bianchi, Andy Heyward and Jean Chalopin. It was originally syndicated by Dic Entertainment and Lexington Broadcasting Service.
Don Adams, best known for starring in “Get Smart,” supplied the voice of the title character who had his body equipped with an array of devices to battled with his enemy, Dr. Claw, leader of an organization named M.A.D. Gadget’s niece Penny and her dog Brain turned out to have the smarts to stop Dr. Claw.

We have this awesomely joyful video for you to check out of this incredibly talented pianist, Florian Mohr, playing all the cartoon intros of our childhoods in an almost 9-minute one take video where he blends together the sounds of our Saturday morning TV watching youth. Some highlights for me were the songs from Adventures of the Gummi Bears, Inspector Gadget, Animaniacs, and Tiny Toon Adventures. They are all super fun to listen to, and brought a big smile to my face. Check it out below, and let us know which theme songs were your favorites.

Jason Momoa’s King of Atlantis is the first of the secondary heroes from Justice League to get his own movie – Aquaman, entering theaters this month – with Ezra Miller’s The Flash seemingly stuck in development hell. Meanwhile, the trail on a solo flick for Cyborg has gone cold lately, though not for lack of enthusiasm on the part of its presumed star Ray Fisher.
Always the mascot for the Dceu – well, the franchise formally known as the Dceu – Fisher spoke to ComicBook.com on the red blue carpet for Aquaman and opened up about what he’d like to see in a Cyborg film, explaining a bit about how he thinks the storyline could really tap into the modern world and how the possibility for the character is “limitless.”

In a highly competitive situation, Apple has made a deal with Dhx Media to produce new “Peanuts” content for the tech giant’s upcoming streaming service, Variety has learned.
Dhx and its subsidiary, Peanuts Worldwide, will develop and produce original series, specials and shorts based on the iconic gang of characters created by Charles M. Schulz.
As part of the partnership, Dhx will produce original short-form Stem content that will be exclusive to Apple featuring astronaut Snoopy. Peanuts Worldwide and Nasa recently signed a Space Act Agreement, designed to inspire a passion for space exploration and the Stem fields among the next generation of students.
Dhx acquired a large stake in the “Peanuts” gang in May 2017. The $345 million deal also gave Dhx control of the “Strawberry Shortcake” franchise, adding to a children’s programming portfolio that also includes “Teletubbies,” “Caillou,” “Inspector Gadget,” and the “Degrassi” franchise.

Popeye, the 89-year-old spinach-powered mariner, will be launching his first new adventures in more than a decade in new animated originals slated to debut on the brand’s YouTube channel.
The new material will come under a pact between WildBrain, a digital kids’ network and studio, and Hearst’s King Features Syndicate, which handles licensing for the Popeye franchise. WildBrain will create new animated content in the “squash-and-stretch” animation style of Popeye, in collaboration with King Features.
Also under the agreement, WildBrain will take over management of the “Popeye and Friends Official” channel on YouTube, launched in January 2017, with an eye toward boosting its audience. Initially, WildBrain plans to produce new compilations of Popeye classic cartoons, drawing from shows including “Popeye,” “Popeye and Son,” and “The Continuing Adventures of Popeye.”
It’s worth noting that King Features is focusing on YouTube and digital platforms to serve as Popeye’s anchor — not TV.

If we were to travel back in time to 1984 and quote the great Bonnie Tyler, we need a hero. He’s gotta be strong, he’s gotta be fast, and he’s gotta be fresh from the fight. We had a double whammy with Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and we’ve been mourning their disappearance since before they left office. Enter animator Adam Reid, who is raising money on Kickstarter to make “Barry and Joe,” a sci-fi buddy comedy starring the former president and VP as time-traveling duo tasked with changing the course of history.
In the snappy campaign video, Reid describes “Barry and Joe” as “an adult, animated sci-fi sitcom.” Throwing another beloved figure into the mix, Neil deGrasse Tyson will guide our heroes through the particulars of messing with the spacetime continuum. “Every episode will follow Barack and Joe as they leap into the past and change a part of history.

Lots of people don’t like the Inspector Gadget movie. Released in 1999, Disney certainly had high hopes for it, earmarking it as a key blockbuster for that year. Tellingly, though, Rupert Everett would not inaccurately describe the film as “the $100m mess” in his memoir, Red Carpets And Other Banana Skins.
He went further. Talking about the elongated days of shooting on the movie, he wrote that “behind the scenes lurked a panel of executives, each with their own theory and agenda.
