Taiwanese wuxia steals some Shaw stars
Leofwine_draca29 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
THE BLOODY MISSION is a stock wuxia story from Taiwan. It's very much in the spirit of one of the Shaw Brothers movies directed by Chor Yuen which were very popular during the period, albeit made on a lot cheaper budget and lacking the finesse in terms of plotting and decent action; the latter in particular is lacking, with some haphazard sword fights that fail to ignite the screen. What's most interesting about this production is that it poaches various Shaw stars of the era, including likable lead Norman Chu, the mildly sinister Tony Liu, and femme fatale Ching Li. It's just a pity they're not appearing in a production with a little more verve to it.
