It's very difficult to say too much about DREADNAUGHT RIVALS because little is known about the production. The cast and crew are hidden behind poor pseudonyms which leads one to suspect the participation of Godfrey Ho or at the very least his IFD Films company but I guess we'll never know. I'd hazard a guess at this being a Taiwanese or South Korean production originally but again, all of this is mere supposition.

What is apparent that this is a film made with little originality and aforethought. The main character is your usual youthful and idealistic hero who is mentored by a wise old beggar master made up to look like Simon Yuen. The bad guy is the most blatant rip-off of Hwang Jang Lee in terms of looks and attitude but sadly his combat abilities are far below those found in a proper Hwang Jang Lee starrer. The film runs the usual gamut of minor brawls building to a fierce climax and has the expected training sequences and poor mugging comedy. It's also notable for having the protagonist use a bizarre 'robot fu' style at the climax, achieved via some silly sound effects.
