Underrated and sadly forgotten historic Norwegian drama
dakjets31 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This film takes place in Finnmark in winter of 1944. The German occupation are forced to withdraw by the pressure of the Red Army. On the way south they burn down a land area as large as Denmark. In total, about 60 000 people were forced to leave homes and places, schools and hospitale were destroyed, as well as bridges, power plants and port facilities. The film depicts these events and the consequences it had for individuals and entire communities where both town and country was laid waste.

We get to know a few of the victims of this dramatic and devastating event. The film shows suffering, but also how strong and committed people get when they are suffering in a large scale. One actor stands out, the late great Norwegian actor Rolf Søder, in one of his best performances ever.

A historic film, which sadly still can be seen as relevant when we see what happens around the world today.
