Sacha Baron Cohen is reportedly set to revive one of his most beloved characters for an upcoming live comedy tour.
Variety reports that the “Borat” star is in the midst of putting together a new standup tour, part of which will feature Ali G, the dim-witted London rapper whose absurd interview questions frustrated and flummoxed the likes of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, late “60 Minutes” curmudgeon Andy Rooney, and Victoria and David Beckham.
A source close to Cohen, however, denied rumours that Cohen was working on a new movie, as he’s ceased all film and TV-related work in accordance with the ongoing actors’ and writers’ strikes. “As a SAG and WGA member he is supporting the ongoing strike alongside his fellow writers and actors,” the source told Variety.

Sacha Baron Cohen is dusting off his beloved character Ali G, Deadline has confirmed.
Cohen’s reprisal of one of his most famous satirical characters will come not via any new film or TV project in development, but rather as part of a stand-up tour that he’s been planning. More concrete details as to how Ali G will figure into his routine, or with regard to tour dates, haven’t yet been disclosed.
First introduced 25 years ago on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show, Ali G is one of several personas Cohen has adopted to conduct absurdist interviews with public figures ranging from astronaut Buzz Aldrin to football player David Beckham, musician Jarvis Cocker and politician Newt Gingrich. Cohen brought the biggest spotlight onto the character via the sketch series Da Ali G Show, which came to HBO from Channel 4 for its final two seasons, at the same...

Sacha Baron Cohen's satirical interview character Ali G turns 25 this year, and to celebrate, he might be making a comeback. According to a report by Variety, the "Borat," "Bruno," and "Da Ali G Show" creator is planning to incorporate Ali G into a future comedy tour, although a source close to the actor-comedian wants to be clear that Baron Cohen is fully adhering to the current WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike rules. That means that whatever Ali G project is in the works, it's not a new movie.

Sacha Baron Cohen is bringing back Ali G, the controversial character with whom he first shot to fame in the late 1990s.
Variety understands Baron Cohen has been working on a stand-up tour in which Ali G will make an appearance. A source close to Baron Cohen strenuously denied a new movie was in development, however, noting that the writer and actor is strictly abiding by strike rules. “As a SAG and WGA member he is supporting the ongoing strike alongside his fellow writers and actors,” the source told Variety.
In 2021 the comedian resurrected the Staines-based rapper during a secret gig at The Comedy Store in Sydney, Australia. “I just wanted to get on stage and muck around and see what Ali G would be like with a crowd,” he said at the time. “It was really good fun.”

Joan is Awful is the first episode of the sixth season of Black Mirror. It is written by Charlie Brooker, directed by Ally Pankiw and stars Salma Hayek, Annie Murphy, and Michael Cera.
This episode is more amusing than terrifying and features Salma Hayek (who mocks her own diction) playing an actress in a series that parodies itself. It is a charming and humorous episode that serves as an excellent appetizer for this sixth season.
Did you expect Charlie Brooker not to take AI beyond imagination? Wait until the end of the episode, where his idea of personalized content for Netflix is quite curious and, although comedic, also frightening.

Director James Bobin and Sacha Baron Cohen have had a close relationship for years, first working together all the way back in the late-1990s when Cohen was first developing his Ali G character on the U.K.'s The 11 O'Clock Show. This obviously gave the actor a bit of an edge when it came to the casting of Time in Bobin.s upcoming Alice Through The Looking Glass - though the gig goes beyond just their friendship. The director truly feels that Cohen was the perfect actor for the part, largely because his ability to balance both being funny and infusing his roles with heart. I had the opportunity to sit down with James Bobin earlier this month during a Alice Through The Looking Glass press day held in London, and the first subject that we discussed was his collaboration with Sacha Baron Cohen. RIcky Gervais' second season of "Derek" may not have lived up to the first (though, really, that would've been difficult), but the man himself remains a terrific talent. Gervais, who broke out on the original version of "The Office" after also appearing on the British comedy "The 11 O'Clock Show," certainly is known as a comic. He's dry, sure, but always with a quick wit and a knack for taking on characters. On "Derek," he plays it relatively straight. Though the Netflix original certainly has comic moments, timing is about the only comic talent needed from Gervais. Tears stream more than laughs resound, and Gervais handles the difficult role with incredible poise. It's not the first or the last time a talented comedian has made the transition to drama. It's been happening on television for decades, and the below actors have proven themselves the best (or at least most memorable) of the bunch.

The British techno-anxiety anthology series "Black Mirror" was one of the best things to sneak onto U.S. television last year (via DirecTV's Audience Network) -- check out our review here. The series originally ran for two three-episode seasons on the U.K.'s Channel 4 in 2011 and 2013, and now creator Charlie Brooker has promised that at least two more episodes are on the way. Brooker broke the news on a BBC Radio show hosted by Lauren Laverne, saying "There will be more -- I don't think I'm allowed to say quite when. There's going to be some and then there's going to be some more -- you'll get one helping and then there'll be another helping." Brooker, who also created the zombie series "Dead Set" and wrote episodes of "Brass Eye," "The 11 O'Clock Show" and "Nathan Barley," currently hosts BBC Two series "Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe." FX and Sacha Baron Cohen have made a deal to bring "Ali G: Rezurection" to comedy spin-off channel Fxx in February. Despite the title, this doesn't mean there will be new episodes of the bitingly satirical series that introduced Baron Cohen and three of his distinctive characters to the world. Instead, Fxx will be airing the existing 18 episodes of the show, including the 2003-2004 HBO season and the 2000 Channel 4 season that preceded it and that has never aired in the U.S. Fxx will also air all the Ali G segments from "The 11 O'clock Show," on which the character first appeared before being spun off onto his own program. Baron Cohen will provide new introductions for each episode, but, more interestingly, his production company Four By Two has just signed a first-look TV deal with FX. "We're thrilled to be in business with Sacha Baron Cohen," said FX's Nick Grad,...

After six years in 'retirement', Staines's finest is set to return in Ali G: Rezurection, on Fox network's Fxx comedy channel
Ali G is back in da house – at least, if your house is in the Us and you subscribe to the Fox network's Fxx comedy channel, which has persuaded Sacha Baron Cohen to revive his breakthrough comic character.
It's been six years since Baron Cohen officially "retired" Ali G, along with his Kazakhstani counterpart Borat, though the Staines wide boy made a surprise appearance at last year's British comedy awards to accept Baron Cohen's lifetime achievement award.
However, the 42-year-old comedian will record his first new material as Ali G – real name Alistair Leslie Graham – in a decade for a series of introductions that will precede old episodes of Da Ali G Show on Fxx as part of a season dubbed Ali G: Rezurection.

Daisy Donovan is to make her TV comeback later this month.
The presenter became one of the UK's top new broadcasters in the late 1990s as part of Channel 4's The 11 O'Clock Show, which helped launch the careers of Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen.
She went on to present the Channel 4 travel-sketch series Daisy Daisy in 2003 and the Us show Daisy Does America in 2005.
However, Donovan explained that she decided to turn her back on fame, describing herself as a "low-grade celebrity". She later started a new career as a screenplay writer and part-time actress.
"I was tired," she told The Daily Telegraph. "It's hard to put that much of yourself into something and not get the results you want. I was happier writing and being at home and mooching. I was not interested in going on telly.

Town officially changes name to Staines-upon-Thames, but not all residents are convinced
After suffering years of ridicule since Sacha Baron Cohen decided to make it the home of his creation Ali G, Staines has officially changed its name in an attempt to distance itself from the joke, to the more upmarket Staines-upon-Thames.
The long-debated revamp of the Surrey town prompted a day of celebrations on Sunday – from maypole dancing to a regatta – as the town set out to prove it was more glamorous than its M25 commuter-belt image, association with Ali G or its "ghost town" depiction by indie band Hard-Fi might suggest.
Spelthorne borough council, which pushed through the change after it was first suggested by a business forum, hopes it will bring more business to the town.
Colin Davis, one of its councillors, told the BBC: "Ali G may have had a role, but I think it goes back further than that.

British TV producer Richard Hopkins has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 47.
He passed away in Britain on Saturday.
Throughout his career, Hopkins produced both Fame Academy and Fear Factor in the U.K. and he later pitched and developed competition series Strictly Come Dancing for the BBC. The show later transferred to America in the form of now-popular programme Dancing With the Stars.
He also oversaw the first season of reality series Big Brother and produced Britain's The 11 O'Clock Show, which helped to launch the careers of Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen.
Hopkins also launched his own production company, Fever Media, with his business partner David Mortimer in 2006.
Remembering his late pal, Mortimer tells the Associated Press, "Television is, by its nature, an ephemeral business, so very few of us can hope to have any lasting legacy. Richard was a glorious exception to this rule and, as one of the greatest producers of his generation, he quite literally got the world dancing."...

★☆☆☆☆ After successfully introducing Sasha Baron Cohen's comedy creation Ali G to audiences 13 years ago, Channel 4's The 11 O'Clock Show tried their luck with an array of new characters, including Bulla - a cockney 'hardman' performed by Ricky Grover. Bulla essentially flopped, so why, 11 years after his small screen debut, has Grover decided to revive Bulla for comedy feature Big Fat Gypsy Gangster (2011) - and what is X-Factor's Tulisa Contostavlos doing here?

The Inbetweeners: The Movie sees Will, Simon, Neil and Jay transported, in all their puerile glory, to Crete. But do the writers and cast realise this is the end?
The feature film-of-the-sitcom is one of the less heralded genres in cinema. Forty years ago, when Hollywood's vision of a low-budget hit was the cool and radical Easy Rider, the British film industry couldn't have been eulogising a less glamorous form of transport, when Hammer brought the sitcom On the Buses to the big screen.
That first On the Buses film made more than a million pounds, and sparked a gold rush. 1973 saw nine films based on sitcoms, including Love Thy Neighbour, Father, Dear Father and even For the Love of Ada. By the end of the decade, though, the notoriously thin quality of the adaptations meant the genre had become irrevocably tarnished.

Being Human
I'm new to "Being Human," so I've got a little bit to catch up on, but as far as I was able to make out from hearsay it's about a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire who all live together in the normal world. You know: the world that you and I live in, like normal people. Wouldn't it be wack if there were supernatural beings walking around amongst us? Eh? God that would be wild.

Staines name change would make it more likely to attract people visiting for 2012 Olympics, says local businessman
While the government of Kazakhstan was famously unhappy with Sacha Baron Cohen's portrayal of the Kazakhstani journalist Borat, it presumably never considered changing the country's name to escape the association.
But the Surrey town of Staines is looking at doing just that in an attempt to unshackle itself from perceived negative connotations it believes have plagued the area ever since the tracksuit-wearing Ali G announced himself to be a local.
Ali G, an ignorant wannabe gangster with a penchant for cannabis and pornography, has long since been retired by the comedian, but his memory still looms large in his homeland.

Ricky Gervais's comedy empire now stretches across the globe, from Hollywood films to podcasts that reach millions. But along with the adoring fans have come a legion of critics. He discusses weight loss, being a control freak, and why he always has to have the last word
Ricky Gervais doesn't actually want to rule the world, or at least not all of it. He just wants absolute total control over his small corner of it. Although it's not that small. The Office is now a global phenomenon: it's been sold to more than 80 countries and, after an American, Brazilian, French, German and Russian version, it's about to be re-incarnated in Israel, complete with "an ultra-orthodox saleswoman", "an embittered Russian accountant" and, in the main role, a Jewish David Brent, otherwise known as Avi Meshulam.
Then there's his podcasts – basically the recorded ramblings of him and his long-time collaborator Stephen Merchant...

Once commissioners for the U.K.'s Channel 4, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley are doing pretty well at the other side of the pitch meeting table.
The English duo have scored a put pilot commitment from ABC for a U.S. version of their British series "The Inbetweeners."
Additionally, the network has given Morris and Beesley a second blind script commitment with penalty for a future project the two will create. Both projects have been laid off at ABC Studios.
"Inbetweeners," which runs on Channel 4's cable sibling C4, is described as "Superbad" meets "Freeks and Geeks." It revolves around four high school boys who belong to the "inbetweeners" social class -- teens who are not the most cool and popular but not geeky enough to be branded uncool.
"Inbetweeners" is the anti-glassy high school fare of "The O.C." and "Beverly Hills, 90210."
