Genndy Tartakovsky's "Clone Wars" is one of the best things to ever happen to "Star Wars." The micro-series gave us a vision of the Jedi as they saw themselves; as people thought the Jedi were; the version of the Jedi a young Anakin had in mind when he first met Qui-Gon Jinn — superhuman, invincible, god-like. Even 20 years later, there's nothing quite like it.
One of the best things the show did was bring the character of Durge over from the comics to the animated series. Durge is an alien bounty hunter with regenerative powers who fights Obi-Wan in one of the best episodes of "Clone Wars," an episode full of body horror and even a sequence inspired by anime masterpiece "Akira."
It's a shame that neither the character nor the show are considered canon by Lucasfilm and Disney.

Regina-born singer Tesher, of “Jalebi Baby” fame, is getting candid about Asian representation in music and the significance of social media in today’s age.
“Jalebi Baby” was originally a remix of Justin Bieber’s “Yummy” with Bollywood song “Jalebi Baby.” However, after its success on TikTok and Instagram, Tesher revised the piece by removing “Yummy” and adding extended original lyrics in Punjabi and English.
The song became a viral sensation, topping the Shazam charts in 25+ countries and amassing over 100 million combined global streams in a few months. In 2022, Tesher performed “Jalebi Baby” with Simu Liu at the Juno Awards. It was also featured in an episode of the Iman Vellani-led Disney+ series “Ms. Marvel.”

When I saw "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" for the first time last year, I was taken aback by how it felt as if I had always known "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." Blondie's forced march through the desert; Angel Eyes's back as he walks through a house full of dead bodies; Tuco running through the cemetery looking for the right grave marker. Not to mention Ennio Moricone's score, whose main theme I guarantee you can quote from memory even if you've never seen the movie. I cannot say if "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" is the best western ever made, because it has plenty of competition even among Leone's own work. But it makes as strong a case as any for mythic permanence, as if it was set down on a tablet rather than filmed.
Of course, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

“Gotta get up, gotta get out…”
Those are the first words that greet Nadia Vulvokov (Natasha Lyonne) every single time she dies and “respawns” at her 36th birthday party in Russian Doll season 1. They come from Harry Nilsson’s song “Gotta Get Up” and with an accompanying piano riff they prove to be a constant artistic companion through Nadia’s very strange experience. The song is an appropriate guide for the audience as well. There is no better way to ground a disorienting supernatural experience than with the familiar soothing sounds of a pop song. Russian Doll understands this well and it’s a lesson that carries over in the show’s excellent second season.
Russian Doll season 2 doesn’t have a “theme song” like “Gotta Get Up” per se, but that doesn’t mean its soundtrack isn’t full of absolute bangers. This batch of seven episodes finds Nadia...

Shirley Knight, who was twice Oscar nominated for best supporting actress, for “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs” (1960) and “Sweet Bird of Youth” (1962), and won a Tony and three Emmys, died on Wednesday of natural causes in San Marcos, Texas. She was 83.
Her daughter, actress Kaitlin Hopkins, paid tribute to Knight in a lengthy Facebook post.
Knight continued to work as she approached 80, reprising her role as Mom in “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” in 2015 after appearing in the 2009 original.
In 1997’s “As Good as It Gets,” starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt, Knight played the mother of Hunt’s character; the New York Times called her performance “tenderly funny.”

Brooke Shields and her daughter, Rowan Francis, are channeling their inner “Dancing Queen.”
On Monday, the mother-daughter duo lip-synced to Abba’s “Angel Eyes,” featured in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again while wearing bathrobes and pink towels wrapped around their heads.
During their sing-a-long, which Shields, 54, shared to Instagram, the pair initially nailed the lines while simultaneously sipping on peach-colored drinks held in their hands.
But in one take, Rowan, 16, started giggling after messing up one of the lyrics and losing her place in the song — causing her famous mom to also break out in hysterics.

Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy this new episode of The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we examine movies from established movie stars that have flopped at the box office, been forgotten by time, or remain hidden gems. These aren’t the films that made them famous or kept them famous. These are the other ones.
Today, as we all celebrate the forthcoming release of Lorene Scafaria’s Hustlers in our own way, here we discuss Jennifer Lopez, the multi-hyphenate queen herself. We take a tour of her acting career, starting with Oliver Stone’s nutty U Turn in 1997, passing through the strange melodrama Angel Eyes (2001), tackling a more comedic performance in 2013’s Parker and finishing up with the camp mini-classic The Boy Next Door from 2015.
We mention the infamous Movieline interview and her reaction to it, we debate first edition copies of The Iliad, settle on how J-Lo continues...

When Jim Caviezel took on the role of Jesus in the 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, he knew it would be a controversial decision.
“I made a choice,” the actor, 49, tells People. “But what you find out is that some choices are viewed as evil and I don’t see it that way.”
The Mel Gibson-directed film, which focused on the last hours of Jesus’s life, was a box-office sensation, earning over $600 million to become the highest-grossing religious film of all time, despite allegations that it contained anti-semitic undertones.

Final Update, Sunday Am: Warner Bros. is reporting that American Sniper will raise its domestic cume to $200.1M through Sunday after a massive $64.4M weekened at 3,705 theaters, the third-highest weekend ever in January, behind Sniper’s opening last weekend, and Avatar’s third Fss of $68.5M.
That figure, should it hold into tomorrow, marks a mere 28-percent slip – the best second-week hold for a wide release ever for a film that debuted with more than $85M. Previous to this, the best big debuts to hold an audience were 2004’s Shrek 2 (down 33 percent in its second frame) and 2002’s Spider-Man (down 38 percent). American Sniper is marching toward $300M, a mark only six Warner Bros. films have passed.
“Many exhibitors are hearing from their theater managers that the infrequent moviegoers who go only two to three times a year, are coming out to see this movie,” said Warner Bros. distribution chief Dan Fellman.

On ABC's Wednesday sitcom "Suburgatory," which launched a new season in January, Jeremy Sisto plays George Altman, an architect and single father of a teen daughter (Jane Levy) who moves to the suburbs to give her a better life. He discovers life there is different, but whether it's better is a work in progress.
In real life, Sisto is a 39-year-old father of two: daughter Charlie and baby son Bastian. He got married to wife Addie a few months after his daughter was born, but Sisto has no regrets about taking the plunge.
"I love my family," he tells Zap2it. "I have a great wife. It took me a while to figure that out and commit, but now I'm really happy I did. She's a human being, and we're committed to each other. It's a nice thing. The kids are just amazing. It's a different level."

Jennifer Lopez and Jason Statham on Parker Beat
I never thought I’d be saying this, but Jennifer Lopez and Jason Statham look great together. Then again, each actor looks amazing solo, so why wouldn’t they look even better side by side? I haven’t been this approving since Lopez and Clooney in Out of Sight, or Lopez and Caviezel in Angel Eyes.So what are the most beautiful woman in the world and the former World Champion diver doing grinning together in a parked car? They are filming a movie, of course.
Coming from director Taylor Hackford, Parker, is the name of the thriller boasting Lopez and Statham as stars. Filming is taking place now in Palm Beach, Florida. Wish I were there! Get more pics over at ComingSoon.net.
Based on a Donald Westlake novel, the movie will come to theaters October 12th, 2012, and follows a modern day Robin Hood.

The Passion of the Christ actor has complained Hollywood shunned him after he played Jesus – but was it really because his performance was so definitive?
If Jim Caviezel is to be believed, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a jobbing actor to play Jesus and continue to eat lunch in Hollywood. Caviezel, so far as most filmgoers are concerned, was last seen being laboriously flayed and nailed in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. Since then, he claims, he's been "rejected by my industry" and exiled to such little-seen pictures as Outlander that is billed, rather poignantly, as an Sf thriller in which a space alien eats up some 8th-century Vikings. It's hard not to see a film like Outlander as an actor's own personal Golgotha.
Speaking at the First Baptist Church of Orlando last week, Caviezel said...

The actor who played Jesus in Mel Gibson's 2004 film says he has been shunned by film industry since taking the role
The actor who played Jesus in Mel Gibson's 2004 blockbuster The Passion of the Christ says he has been shunned by Hollywood since taking the role.
Jim Caviezel was a regular name on cinema hoardings before agreeing to take the lead in the controversial, bloody retelling of Christ's final days. He headlined the 2002 remake of The Count of Monte Cristo and starred opposite Jennifer Lopez in the 2001 romantic drama Angel Eyes. However, Caviezel told an audience of churchgoers in Orlando, Florida on Saturday that he had "been rejected by my own industry" after choosing to join Gibson's cast.
Gibson, he said, had initially offered him the role, only to call him back 20 minutes later and beg him not to take it.
"He said, 'You'll never work in this town again.

This weekend marks the return of Jennifer Lopez to mainstream movies after a five-year hiatus. For a stretch that lasted from the late 1990s on through 2005, Ms. Lopez was arguably one of the most bankable actresses. That may sound strange today in light of her last theatrical release, El Cantante, making just $7.6 million in 2007, while another movie, Bordertown, went straight-to-video (not to mention the waning record sales of her music career). Perhaps contributing to a negative perception of her prior drawing power is the fact that she never starred in an intended blockbuster and none of her movies grossed more than $100 million (though three did adjusted for ticket price inflation). Following supporting work in pictures like My Family and Money Train, Jennifer Lopez broke out into leading roles in 1997 with back-to-back hits Selena and Anaconda. Music biography Selena racked up $35.3 million or the equivalent of around $60 million adjusted for ticket price inflation,...

Here’s an alternative award giving ceremony that those in Hollywood don’t like! The Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies) always announce their awards right near the Oscar noms in a bid to steal some thunder and to remind us all that some movies suck! For the likes of Sly Stallone, it’s the gift that keeps on giving. He’s received most nominations in practically every category going! Some like Halle Berry (Worst Actress for Catwoman) and Paul Verhoeven (winner for Showgirls) have turned up at the ceremony and graciously accepted their awards. See? Some Hollywood folk do have a sense of humour!
Leading the pack this year is G.I. Joe, Land of the Lost, Hannah Montana and the controversial inclusion of R. Pattz and Kirstin Stewart. Here’s the full list of nominations:

We're less than 10 hours away from the 2010 Oscar Nominations (as of this posting), and as per usual, the Razzie Awards -- which celebrate the worst in cinema -- are announced the day before. And as usual, the Razzies nominate the most obvious movies -- the spectacularly bad popular movies, actors, and actresses (not that there's anything wrong with that). From a cursory glance at the nominees, it appears as though the same five movies dominate every category and Sandra Bullock may be the most nominated this year (ironic, since she'll also likely be nominated for an Oscar) for her role in All About Steve. Transformers 2, G.I. Joe, Old Dogs, New Moon and Land of the Lost are the other big titles on the list. There's really no excuse for leaving out Paul Blart or Year One, though.

The 2010 Razzie nominations were announced today. “Land of the Lost” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” led the pack with 7 nominations each, Sandra Bullock and Megan Fox will be battling it out for the Worst Actress Award.
Sandra Bullock expected to score an Academy Award nomination Tuesday for her hit drama “The Blind Side,” and
“She could be the first person ever to win a Razzie and an Oscar in the same weekend,”
said John Wilson, founder of the Golden Raspberry Awards, now in their 30th year of singling out Hollywood’s low points.
Other actors and actresses graced with nominations include Will Ferrell, Robert Pattinson, Eddie Murphy, John Travolta, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, and Julie White who played Shia Labeouf’s mother in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Land of the Lost each grabbed seven nominations for the 2010 Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies), an annual event recognizing the worst movies had to offer.
The Michael Bay sequel made $835 million worldwide and placed second at the U.S. box office in 2009 while the Will Ferrell “comedy” tanked in its summer release, earning only half its budget back in the States. Both are in the running for “Worst Picture” along with critically panned All About Steve, the campy G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, and the John Travolta/Robin Williams groaner Old Dogs.
Sandra Bullock was nominated for “Worst Actress of 2009″ for All About Steve literally the day before the Academy Awards announcements where she’s the front-runner for “Best Actress” in The Blind Side. No actor has ever been awarded both awards in the same year.

Forget about the Oscars for now, let's talk about the Razzies. One day before the prestigious Academy Awards nominations, the Golden Raspberry Awards noms have been announced and it ain't good for both "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Land of the Lost." Both movies earned 7 nominations each.
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" received nominations for worst film, worst director for Michael Bay, worst screen couple (expanded to include both Shai LeBouf and Megan Fox or LeBouf and any Transformer), worst supporting actress, worst screenplay and worst remake/rip-off.
"Land of the Lost" also received seven nominations for Will Farrell as worst actor and worst screen couple, worst picture, director for Brad Silberling, remake/rip-off, screenplay and supporting actor for Jorma Taccone as Cha-Ka.
The Razzies also gave love to the worst of the decade which included Razzie-baits such as "Battlefield Earth" (2001), Tom Green's "Freddy Got Fingered" (2001), "Gigli" (2003), Lindsay Lohan...

Oscar's ugly little stepbrother Razzie announced his nominations this week for the worst movies and performances of 2009, and let's just say there's no shortage of stuff to choose from. The Golden Raspberry Awards are, of course, the annual awards that mock and ridicule all of the terrible blockbusters that we are forced to sit through in a year, and among the biggest offenders this year we have Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Land of the Lost, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and Twilight Saga: New Moon. Transformers and Land of the Lost lead the pack with seven nominations each. In an interesting twist, it seems that Sandra Bullock is nominated for Worst Actress for her performance in All About Steve, which means she might actually have a shot at winning both Best Actress at the Oscars and Worst Actress at the Razzies in the same year. Now that's an achievement!

Now that “300” is coming out with a super-duper, bells-and-whistles “Complete Experience” Blu-Ray disc on the 21st, it’s had me thinking about the first few times I saw the movie. Like many, I went in not knowing what to expect and came out in awe of Zack Snyder’s flick. And, like many, I’m a bit nervous about the news that Snyder, Frank Miller and their team are willing to revisit the Spartans — but hoping I’ll once again be awestruck.
“Frank’s working on something,” revealed producer Mark Canton when I caught up with him recently, telling me that he’s onboard to return for Snyder’s “300” sequel. “That, Zack has said.”
Canton, who is currently hard at work on a diverse slate including September’s “Fame,” March’s “Piranha 3-D” and the May 2010 romantic drama “Letters to Juliet,” said that although Snyder and Miller have agreed on...

Jennifer is the second child of David Lopez and Guadalupe Rodriguez. She has two sisters, her eldest is named Leslie and Lydia is the youngest. They are of Puerto Rican descent and lived in the South Bronx. Jennifer started taking singing and dancing lessons since she was five years old. The first major job she had was as a dancer in the television show In Living Color in 1990. Soon after that she became a back-up dancer for Janet Jackson and even made an appearance in one of her videos in 1993. That same year she continued to pursue her acting career, making small appearances in shows like South Central and Second Chances. Her breakthrough into the big screen came in 1995 when she played young Maria in My Family, a drama produced by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Edward James Olmos and Jimmy Smits. Money Train followed and she worked with Coppola again in 1996's Jack.

MEXICO CITY -- The Mexican film academy has selected Luis Mandoki's Voces Inocentes (Innocent Voices) as its foreign-language submission for the 77th Academy Awards, while indie picture Temporada de Patos (Duck Season) will contend for a Goya nomination in Spain. Innocent Voices, an Altavista Films-Lawrence Bender production, tells the story of a boy growing up in war-torn El Salvador in the 1980s. Twentieth Century Fox will distribute the film in Mexico; Lions Gate is handling stateside distribution. The project marks helmer Mandoki's return to Spanish-language filmmaking after he worked in Hollywood for about 17 years. Among his English-language movies are Angel Eyes and Message in a Bottle. Innocent Voices will hit screens here in January, said distributor Fox Mexico.

Friends of Hollywood superstar Jennifer Lopez have hit back at claims she was dumped by her management company - insisting it was the other way around. Reports of the split emerged yesterday after International Creative Management vice chairman Ed Limato sent staff an email that read, "We have decided that we no longer wish to represent Jennifer Lopez, and we have so informed her manager." But pals insist J.Lo parted company with the firm because she was unhappy with the quality of movie roles being offered her. A buddy told New York tabloid the New York Post, "Jennifer originally was represented at ICM by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas. But Elaine left two years ago to head up Julia Roberts' production company. Jennifer could open a movie like Angel Eyes or The Cell, but what maintains a movie is quality, which wasn't there, so she went to Ed Limato and said she needed an internal agent change and Ed took her on himself. They were so intent on keeping Jennifer that they even dropped their rates - an unprecedented move - to 5 per cent. (But) Jennifer needed an elevation in quality of scripts and directors and that hasn't happened over the last few months in any way, shape or form."...

Staunchly Catholic Hollywood actor Jim Caviezel refused to strip off for a sex scene with beautiful actress Ashley Judd. The 33-year-old star threatened to walk out unless director Carl Franklin shot the scene for thriller High Crimes with both parties wearing clothes. He says, "I told Carl, 'It's no problem, I don't have to do this movie. Go ahead and find someone else.' I see our culture as not respecting people too much, treating people like objects. There are times where sex is appropriate, but I've yet to see butts and breasts act themselves out of a scene!" It's not the first time Caviezel has refused to get naked for scenes with beautiful co-stars. He refused to film a love scene with sexy Jennifer Lopez in Angel Eyes because she was topless and asked rising star Dagmara Domincyzk to cover her nipples while shooting The Count Of Monte Cristo. The married star says, "My acting stems from inside, from God. And that's the only way I can act. If I violate that, then I don't think I'd be around this business much longer."...

Jennifer Lopez, in true superstar style, has chosen a favorite actor to star opposite her in her new movie. Jen enjoyed James Caviezel's performance in The Thin Red Line so much that she insisted he share her hot scenes in Angel Eyes. A source on the movie says, "The two got on so well and Jen knew they would - that's why she insisted on him for this role. It's not every day you get to play around with Jennifer Lopez. We were all a little jealous of Jim."...
