IT IS A PITY THAT WE CAN'T GET ACCESS TO THIS MOVIE. MY FATHER WAS ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO HAVE SANG MY WAY, HE ACTUALLY DID RECORD IT BUT THEY THEN CHANGED THE SONG TO A TRACK CALLED THE WINNERS. I CAN REMEMBER AS A CHILD GOING WITH MY DAD TO THE PRODUCERS HOUSE, OR SHOULD I SAY MANSION. I THINK I'VE EVER BEEN TO SUCH A PLACE, IT WAS ALL MARBLE, UNBELIEVABLE. MY DAD WON A COUPLE OF SARI AWARDS (BEST MALE VOCALIST) AND WAS A VERY GOOD SINGER AND MUSICIAN AND PASSED ON 10 YEARS AGO, SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE WHILST I REMINISCING, HAVE GONE ON ENOUGH, OH BTW MY DADS NAME IS CLYDE RAY.

One of the best ever South African movies

It is hard to believe that this movie is not available on either Video or DVD. One can only hope that somebody will find the 35mm film and convert this classic to DVD. Joe Stewardson delivers a magnificent performance as the father who by driving his family to win at all cost drives them away from him. I saw the movie 25-30 years ago but it has left such an impact on me that I'll never forget it, specially the scene where Will Maddox is running the marathon to the music and words of "My Way". There was a follow-up movie, Winners 2, but sadly as with most follow-up movies it was more of the same, trying to milk a success but didn't quiet make it. Interesting trivia about the Winners 2 is that Joe Stewardson's real son, Deon, played his son in the movie.
