While flying alone from New York to Rio de Janeiro, a wealthy and spoiled American aviatrix falls in the dry lands of the country of Ceará, and is rescued wounded by a poor local family. They are unable to communicate to each other, but the young man of the family falls in love with the lady, and tries to give the best to please her, including water, the most precious good of the family.
"Eterna Esperança" is a Brazilian reference of serious cinema in the 30's and 40's that survived to time. The story shows themes like hunger and the chronic lack of development of the northeast of Brazil, with the arid lands without irrigation and very poor and religious people. Directed by the Checkslovakian Leo Marten, the production was initiated by the studio Companhia Americana and concluded by Cinédia. Most of the scenes were shot in the state of Rio de Janeiro and in studio, using a few footages from documentaries about Ceará. My vote is seven.
