Underrated, but fun shooter.

So Half-Life achieved widespread critical acclaim upon release in the late '90s, but SiN received little attention due to the various bugs and no doubt it was overshadowed by the latter, but SiN is a game you should definitely play because it's a fun retro-First Person Shooter, and a really good one at that.

You play as Colonel John R. Blade, a vulgar, trash-talking cop who wants to know who is putting out a DNA-altering mutagen drug called U4, a clever anagram for euphoria(nice to have a game with lots of personality)/ After investigating and tracking down one of her cohorts, Tony Mancini, a mob boss in fictional Freeport City, he soon learns that it was none other than Elexis Sinclair, a rogue geneticist/mad scientist with a sexy allure, with gorgeous looks and a killer body(by '98 PC game standards). But there are many twists and turns in the plot that keep things very interesting.

What's really fascinating about this game is that Elexis Sinclair has both beauty and brains to match; a perfect foil for Blade. And the rest of the cast round out this sci-fi story terrifically, especially J.C., Blade's resident computer hacker who works for Hardcorps, a private security force that has taken over local law enforcement in Freeport City. Their constant banter with each other makes for some interesting and hilarious moments, and it gives this game a sparkle of charm in a sea of serious, modern FPS. The story and writing is great and comic-book like with a dash of Demolition Man and Robocop for atmospheric good measure. The level design is concise and cohesive. In fact many of the locations in the game have a realistic layout, making it seem as if it can take place in our world; a nice touch and the weapons have lots of punch in the sound department.

I recently bought this game along with Sin: Episodes. It's an episodic game series, but sadly only one episode has been released so far due to Ritual Entertainment closing it's doors; leaving the franchise in indefinite limbo. It would be nice to see the series on the next-gen of consoles because the story has a lot of potential to be something really great. An expansion pack, called Sin: Wages of Sin has been released, but it's a bitch to get it working on current PC platforms. So if you're willing to buy this, prepare to do a lot of tweaking in order to get the game to work.

Sin is a great, FPS that is charming in it's characters and plot. Although the graphics are dated by today's standards, they're nevertheless colorful and smooth with lots of nice looking environments that still look good even to this day. If you want a retro First Person Shooter, then look no further than Sin.

Quite fun.

"Sin" is a quite fun shoot-em-up with lots of different weapons to choose from. A good plot drives the story and the game is quite interesting. "Sin" will not always be remembered, sadly, partly because of "Half-Life". See, When the creators of "Sin" heard that "Half-Life" was going to be brilliant, they quickly released "Sin" before it was completely ready for release. So the game was incomplete. The game would have been a masterpiece if only the creators had spent a little more time on programming.

Good game

Those in the gaming industry would have heard no less than a billion times about the crapload of bugs present in the game, Sin. That would eventually become talk about crappy the game was. Don't believe a word of it. Sin is actually a pretty good game and I'd play it even today. The bugs are there but they do not affect gameplay enough to be annoying besides which they released a patch for the game which fixes most of the bugs. Sin does deliver some frantic action and good graphics as well as level design and may be even a semblance of a story. Its too bad that this game was so bashed after its release and not given enough credit. I guess that the bugs only became prevalent on lower end systems.

SiNfully fun!

Warning: Spoilers
I have loved this game every time I played it. I first played the demo, and I couldn't stop playing it! It would be a few years before I actually come in contact with it again; only this time, it was the first version. The game was far more than I expected, and I played it non-stop. Sadly, I could only use software rendering. I just didn't have a good enough Graphics card. (16 MB!) A couple years later, they had a Steam version packaged with the latest SiN game. (it was about time; the original never worked with WinXP. NEVER!) The game seemed endless because of its myriad of levels, some of which had multiple outcomes leading to different levels. The weapons were plentiful, but the best weapon lies within the console, the cheater's utopia. It was the Thrallgun. It had both of the final boss's super-weapons, and kicked major butt! Oh, sorry. I went off topic. Anyways, the graphics weren't the best, even on the Steam version maxed out, and every character's mouth seemed super-glued shut, but the story was great, the weapons were amazing, the enemies had a huge amount of variety, and the maps were huge. (most of them, at least) The bugs are very overlookable, there are a LOT of secrets, (my favorite being the huge rat in the subway) and JC has a lot to say, maybe even too much. Plus, it is the Quake 2 engine with sweet improvements such as better coloring detail, more detailed damage modeling, and a third-person view even! The only guaranteed way to get it so it normally plays, however, is through the game SiN Episodes, which is also a great game. The only huge drawback is just one question: WHERE ARE THE MODS?! Otherwise, anyone who loves nostalgia, language, and/or gore should check it out.

Possibly the most underrated Shooter Ever!
Crispie8816 September 2008
When SiN was released it contained many bugs, which is one of the contributing factors to it's downfall. However the biggest problem as to why the game never received the appreciation it deserves is that it was released in the shadow of half life.

SiN is still on my top ten games of all time list, and i still play it quite a lot. It's just unfortunate that it never became popular because i think that SiN bought a lot to the world of First Person Shooters, in terms of story, game-play, characters and action based outcomes and drivable vehicles. This game definitely should have achieved higher than half life, unfortunately people can't seem to look beyond the problems at the release date.
