One of the first commercial films made in puerto Rico.

"Maruja" was the one of the first Puerto Rican films made with local talent. When it openned in 1959 it made stars of its leads. The story is somewhat clichéed and you see its denouement coming a mile away. What the film does most effectively is show a slice of life in Puerto Rico during the 50's. The local scenery is shown gorgeously and the supporting cast( who all became staples of PR television) is very professional. A must see for those of us who grew up in PR and remember its stars.

Great film, worth a watch.

The Story of this town and the strong effect of Maruja, a woman who is so beautiful everybody wants to be with her. But this, which has been a reality of the town for a long time, is shaken when the Mayors son comes back from France. What occurs next is for you the viewer to find out.

I think this was a great film. The writing is fantastic, the acting is great, the music is very good, and the story flows very naturally and never becomes boring.

there's a few editing cuts and audio cues that feel strange, but that's because of the year it was made, and the place it was made also, in which this is their first film Basically.

But if you like film, this is a good one to see. not only cause it's well made. because it is a gem of puertorrican filmmaking that is slowly being forgotten, and it really does not deserve to be.

Give it a watch
