David E. Diano, a veteran camera operator with credits including Tombstone, The Fast and the Furious, Wedding Crashers and Spider-Man 3, has died. He was 71.
Diano died Jan. 22 at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena of coronary issues after a battle with prostate cancer, his wife, still photographer Gemma Lamana, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Diano served as president of the Society of Camera Operators from 2003-04 before deciding not to run for a second term.
“To write that David was a one-of-a-kind friend to those of us who worked with him would be an understatement,” Soc historical chair Michael Frediani said in a statement. “His kindness, artistry and boyish smile endeared him to countess friends and fellow industry colleagues — and that is what set him apart from many,”
Diano shot 17 movies for cinematographer William Fraker, a six-time Oscar nominee, from 1983-2002. Those films included War Games (1983), Murphy’s Romance (1985), Baby Boom (1987), Memoirs of an Invisible Man...

Bill Hader or, at least, an animated character that he voices, will don a red-and-white striped top hat in a new adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat.”
The “Barry” star will lead a vocal ensemble that also includes Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Bowen Yang (“SNL”), Xochitl Gomez (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”), Matt Berry (“What We Do in The Shadows”) and Paula Pell (“Girls5eva”). Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Dr. Seuss Enterprises officially announced the casting on Monday.
“The Cat in the Hat” will open in theaters on March 6, 2026. Although the book is a children’s classic, it has a checkered cinematic legacy. A 2003 live-action adaptation, starring Mike Myers as he was riding high off of “Austin Powers,” collapsed at the box office. It earned $134 million on a $109 million budget and became a money-loser when marketing and distribution costs were factored into the equation. It...

The 55-year-old actress starred in 2000′s Charlie’s Angels and 2003′s Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore.
While attending the premiere of her new film Presence at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on Friday (January 19), Lucy revealed whether she believes a third Charlie’s Angels movie will ever happen.

“I honestly don’t know how that’s going to be feasible,” she told Variety. “There have been so many iterations, even after the fact… In some ways, it’s such a strange thing to think about it. Times have changed so much since then.”

It’s been over twenty years since Lucy Liu first suited up as one of Charlie’s Angels alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, and despite the fan demand for Charlie’s Angels 3, she doesn’t think it will happen.
While speaking with Variety, Lucy Liu didn’t seem optimistic about a third installment. “I honestly don’t know how that’s going to be feasible,” she said. “There have been so many iterations, even after the fact … In some ways, it’s such a strange thing to think about it. Lucy Liu Doesn’t Think ‘Charlie’s Angels 3’ Will Ever Get Made: ‘I Will Be Shocked if That Happened’
Two of Lucy Liu’s most popular films are 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels” and 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” in which she starred alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore as the titular trio. But Liu revealed at the Variety Studio presented by Audible that it’s unlikely a third chapter will ever happen — despite Diaz’s recent return to acting after a long hiatus.
“I honestly don’t know how that’s going to be feasible,” she said. “There have been so many iterations, even after the fact … In some ways, it’s such a strange thing to think about it. Times have changed so much since then.
“At that time, when we were doing publicity, they had never before had three women on a magazine cover,” she continued. “They didn’t even know how to do it. It was such a strange thing for women to collaborate and be seen as colleagues and friends.

Kristen Stewart is Variety’s Sundance cover star and said while recording a “Know Their Lines” video that she “hated” making “Charlie’s Angels,” the Elizabeth Banks-directed action-comedy that flopped at the box office in fall 2019. Stewart was joined in the film by Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. While reviews were mixed, Stewart’s performance as the rebellious Sabina earned widespread acclaim. Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman’s praised her “flashing-eyed magnetism,” for instance.
During “Know Their Lines,” Stewart got a prompt that included dialogue from the opening scene of her “Charlie’s Angels” reboot: “Did you know that it takes men an additional seven seconds to perceive a woman as a threat compared to a man?”
“This was a mouthful at the time,” Stewart said. “I remember saying that. That was from a little film called ‘Charlie’s Angels.’ We wanted a strong opener, you know? We wanted to really like...

Back in the soap opera glory days of the 1980s, I remember well Demi Moore‘s short stint on the popular “General Hospital.” With her distinctive gravelly voice, movie star beauty and strong personality, it was obvious that the small screen couldn’t contain her, and that she would go on to bigger things.
Demi Gene Guynes was born on November 11 in 1962 in Roswell, New Mexico. Following a difficult childhood, she left school her junior year and did some modeling before meeting and marrying musician Freddy Moore, with whom she co-wrote three songs. She had a couple of small film roles before landing the “General Hospital” gig in 1983. Then a series of popular films beginning with “Blame It On Rio” in 1984 led to an impressive string of blockbuster films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, making her one of the biggest stars of the era.

It’s been more than 20 years since Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz teamed up for 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels”, and the film’s director is revealing that he’d be open to producing a second sequel.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director McG said he’d be open to reuniting with the women for a third film — despite the failure of the 2019 big-screen reboot, starring Kristen Stewart and directed by Elizabeth Banks.
“It would take a long discussion with those three wonderful performers who I adore,” McG said of the trio.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, goes the axiom. Apparently, film director McG strongly believes it, saying he is not closing the door on a potential Charlie’s Angels 3.

The director managed the 2000 film adaptation starring Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz, as well as the 2003 sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. Both had underwhelming box office grosses for various reasons.
But McG remains undaunted.

Might Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu reunite for a third “Charlie’s Angels” movie? McG, the trio’s franchise director, recently told Entertainment Weekly that he would be more than open to making that sequel. The filmmaker directed the three actors in 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels” and 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” which combined to over $520 million at the worldwide box office. The franchise was rebooted on the big screen in 2019 with the Elizabeth Banks-directed “Charlie’s Angels,” but the film flopped and didn’t cross the $100 million mark.

The more things change, the more the Hollywood studios stay the same. At least that’s one of the surprising lessons of Barbenheimer, Sound of Freedom, Indiana Jones 5, Mission: Impossible 7, Fast and the Furious 10, and the other big-budget summer box office bets trying to help the movie business pull off a historic comeback.
Twenty years ago, we wrote a book, Open Wide, about a battle at the multiplex on the weekend of July 4, 2003, for the hearts, minds and dollars of the American public. In some respects, nothing has changed. The showdown that July weekend two decades ago pitted pink against black, and a sparkly self-actualized blonde heroine against a grim avatar of thermonuclear war.

Angelina Jolie has kissed many actors over the course of her onscreen career. But one actor who looked forward to the possibility of making out with Jolie was star Shia Labeouf.

Labeouf has worked closely with some of Hollywood’s biggest female stars. As is the case with actors sometimes, it was hard not to develop feelings towards his fellow actors. In a resurfaced interview with GQ, Labeouf confided that he’d fall for his onscreen partners quite often on set.
“Oh, I’ve been in love with every woman I’ve ever worked with,” he said.
Labeouf would’ve gladly dated some of those co-stars if given the opportunity. But circumstances beyond his control sometimes prevented onscreen relationships from becoming a reality.

Charlie’s Angels and its cast was a phenomenon in the 1970s. The TV series ran for five seasons from 1976-1981. It was produced by Aaron Spelling, who also created hits such as The Love Boat, Dynasty, Beverly Hills 90210, and Melrose Place.
The show was immensely popular with viewers but got mixed reviews from critics. Some called it “Jiggle TV” because it emphasized the sex appeal of its female cast.

The Irish accent is consistently voted one of the most attractive in the world, yet even some of the world’s finest actors have trouble with it. Leonardo DiCaprio tried, as did Julia Roberts (twice), and dare we even mention Brad Pitt?
Today (17 March) marks St Patrick’s Day, and if you have no pub and/or beer plans, why not experience the next best thing: reminiscing about the wonkiest Irish accents in film history.
Relatively new to this great lineage of bad accents is Wild Mountain Thyme, a romantic drama released in the UK in early 2021 and so inexplicable that even literal Irish actors seemed to speak with fake Irish accents in it.
Such is the evil power of this particular bit of fakery, though – Hollywood’s bastardised visions of Ireland so all-encompassing and destructive that few can survive it.

Lucy Liu is making her comic book movie debut in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” playing the villainous Kalypso alongside Helen Mirren and “West Side Story” breakout Rachel Zegler. The three actors play the daughters of Atlas, who come to our planet to reclaim the magic that fuels Zachary Levi’s Shazam. Liu was recently asked by The Cut about starring in a superhero movie for the first time at 54 years old.
“If it had happened earlier, it would have been miraculous,” Liu said. “It would have been a different story; my career would have been easier. There would have been more opportunity.”
Sizable comic book movie roles for Asian-Americans simply did not exist when Liu was coming up in the industry. She had her action breakthrough playing Alex Munday opposite Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore in 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels” and its 2003 sequel, “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.”

The film follows Jess and Bill Walker, a couple determined to keep their family close as their kids are growing older and less connected to one another. One day, after a chance meeting with an astrological reader, they wake up to find that they’ve switched bodies with a family living on the other side of the world. Unfortunately, the body swap happens to take place on the most important day in their individual lives, with a promotion, college interview, record deal and soccer tryout on the table.

Ed Helms (Together Together) and McG (The Babysitter) have boarded the Netflix body swap comedy Family Leave, inspired by New York Times bestselling author Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s book, Bedtime for Mommy. Helms will star alongside the previously announced Jennifer Garner, with McG serving as the project’s director and producer.
The film first announced back in February of 2021 follows Jess and Bill Walker, who are doing their best to keep their family connected as their children grow older, more independent, and more distant. When a chance encounter with an astrological reader causes the family to wake up to a full body switch, on the morning of the most important day of each of their lives, can the Walkers unite to land a promotion, college interview, record deal and soccer tryout?

Good afternoon, angels! Drew Barrymore’s got news — the actress is ready to reprise her role as one of Charlie’s iconic angels.
Barrymore revealed that she’d easily say yes to a third installment of the “Charlie’s Angels” films, which she starred in alongside Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, should the opportunity ever present itself.
“I would be surprised if any one of us ever decreed that we wouldn’t [do a third movie],” she said during the Sept. 30 episode of the “Drew’s News” podcast. “I would. I would in a heartbeat. The answer is an emphatic yes. I will always say yes.”
She also noted how Liu, her former co-star, was recently asked the same question — whether or not she’d be on board for a third film.
“I just was watching Lucy, funny enough, who I was texting with this morning. And she was at Comic-Con for the new ‘Shazam’ movie and they asked her,...

Demi Moore showed fans her swimsuit side as she kicked off the week with a new bikini-clad snap.
The Ghost and Striptease actress, who will turn 60 in November, appeared to be enjoying some of her time away from her busy schedule, which has lately involved the stunner shooting ads and talking up her line with Andie Swim.
Rocking a hot-pink bikini, Demi defied age as she showed off her fit physique, baring her flats abs and toned legs for fans to see.
Demi threw some dark shades over her eyes for the snap, wearing a bright yellow jacket on her shoulders that lay open-faced in the front to reveal her two-piece.

And just like that, winter has come again. HBO Max’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by the return of the king. Or more accurately: the return of the queen … of the Seven Kingdoms.
Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is set to premiere on HBO and HBO Max on Aug. 21, just over three years after Game of Thrones concluded in controversial fashion with “The Iron Throne.” This new series is a prequel, depicting the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons from George R.R. Martin’s lore. When dragon fights dragon, the realm will be torn asunder. But the viewer will certainly delight in all the Targaryen action.

Cameron Diaz may be officially un-retired with a new Netflix film in the works, but her former “Charlie’s Angels” co-star Lucy Liu had no idea she had even left Hollywood. Diaz announced her retirement in 2018 with her last film role to date being 2014’s “Annie.” The “Holiday” alum formerly appeared alongside Liu in 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels” and its sequel, “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” in 2003.
“I didn’t even know [Cameron] was out of the business,” Liu told Entertainment Tonight. “In my heart, she’s always right here.”
When asked by Et whether Diaz, Liu, and Drew Barrymore would reunite for another “Angels” film, Liu kept the option open. “I don’t know! Those are some very busy ladies,” the “Kill Bill Vol. 1” actress said. “But I adore and love them, so anything that they have to offer I’m sure we would have a very good time doing it.”

The original Viper Room is fading to black.
In its place will be a 12-story mixed-use high rise at the corner of Sunset and Larrabee in West Hollywood. The development, which was announced today, will include a re-designed music venue, recording studio space, eateries, cafes, retail space, housing units and a hotel. According to the project’s web site, memorabilia from the original Viper Room will be featured throughout the venue.
“8850 Sunset makes possible the rebirth of this iconic music venue, preserving it for generations to come,” notes the web site, which bills the development as, at once, a “Global destination” and “local landmark.”
Construction is expected to begin next year on the high-density project named after its address at 8850 Sunset, according to Los Angeles-based Silver Creek Development, which bought the property about four years ago.

The new year is continuing apace at Hulu. The streamer’s list of new releases for February 2022 is highlighted by one very interesting project.
Pam and Tommy is set to premiere on Feb. 2. Perhaps the Groundhog Day release date is intentional as the show will cover a particular moment of celebrity, sex, and exploitation from the early ’90s that seems to have repeated itself over and over. Sebastian Stan and Lily James star as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson and the series follows the events and fallout of their homemade sex tape being stolen and unleashed on a nascent internet. If nothing else, getting the promo photos of Stan and James as the ’90s stars was worth it.

Exclusive: The material marketplace is beginning to perk up. Deadline hears that Wonderland has Annie Mumolo and Emily Goldwyn co-writing Bad Habit, a proposed comedy series that would star Mumolo about nuns who get into the pot-selling business.
When a convent in California’s Central Valley is rocked by a scandal that puts it on the brink of bankruptcy, a resourceful group of nuns struggles to keep it afloat in a community that desperately needs them. On a wing and a prayer, they get into cultivating and selling marijuana in the name of the Catholic Church. This nuns navigate local drug cartels, the church, their friendships, their longstanding spiritual beliefs and, most importantly, how to grow the dankest weed west of the Mississippi.
Goldwyn separately is adapting Mergers and Acquisitions for Sony’s 3000 Pictures, and her series...

The increased focus on female butt-kickers on TV has been a positive step for feminism and in trouncing stereotypes.
Series as vastly different in tone as AMC’s “The Walking Dead” zombie franchise to the martial arts-tinged “Cobra Kai” on Netflix and the CW’s “Kung Fu”to Disney Plus’ Marvel Cinematic Universe spinoffs like “Hawkeye” and Starz’s wrestling family drama “Heels” have all highlighted stunt work of female characters.
“There are a lot of female stunt doubles and stunt performers and there have been for a lot of years,” says Heidi Moneymaker, the stunt coordinator on “Hawkeye” who is also known for doubling Scarlett Johansson in several “Avengers” movies.
Moneymaker says that “one of the issues right now is that there’s so much content out there and that is creating an extremely high demand for performers. That gives an opportunity for younger people to step up and...

Lucy Liu finally spilled the tea on longtime reports of friction with Bill Murray on the set of 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels.”
In an interview on this week’s episode of the Los Angeles Times podcast “Asian Enough,” the actress recalled Murray’s “inexcusable and unacceptable” language toward her between takes.
“As we’re doing the scene, Bill starts to sort of hurl insults, and I won’t get into the specifics, but it kept going on and on,” Liu said. “I was, like, ‘Wow, he seems like he’s looking straight at me.’ I couldn’t believe that [the comments] could be towards me because what do I have to do with anything majorly important at that time?“
Liu said that she wasn’t willing to brush off the attack. “I literally do the look around my shoulder thing, like, ‘Who is he talking to behind me?’ I say, ‘I’m so sorry.

In an incredibly frank conversation with Vulture, actress Thandie Newton spoke about her decision to turn down a part in the remake of Charlie’s Angels starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and, in the role that Newton was considered for, Lucy Liu.
Newton said she was “massively affected” by the abuse, racism and objectification she encountered after she began working as an actress at age 16. Newton said she encountered “people that were doing the same [abusive] sh*t, and so I would challenge them or want to get out of it, or not want to work with people.”
One of those people, according to Newton, was former co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and chairman of that studio’s Motion Picture Group, Amy Pascal.

(Updated with Norman Lear remarks) Just over two months after she wowed the crowd at ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience: All in the Family & Good Times, Ja’net DuBois died suddenly today. She was 74.
As confirmed by her family and those close to the two-time Emmy winner, the seemingly healthy DuBois died early Tuesday in her sleep at her home in Glendale, CA.
She was known for making some of the greatest entrances in sitcom history week after week as neighbor Willona Woods on Good Times, the groundbreaking 1970s sitcom starring Esther Rolle, John Amos, Jimmie Walker and Janet Jackson. Back in December of last year, DuBois joined Walker and co-star Bern Nadette Stanis for an appearance on the latest live retelling of one of Norman Lear’s classic TV shows – and she stole the star-studded show with pure pizzazz.
Good Times wasn’t DuBois’ only connection to Learland.

Stars: Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska, Elizabeth Banks, Patrick Stewart, Djimon Hounsou, Sam Claflin, Noah Centineo, Jonathan Tucker, Nat Faxon, Chris Pang, Luis Gerardo Méndez | Written and Directed by Elizabeth Banks
Elizabeth Banks writes and directs this second big screen reboot of the Charlie’s Angels franchise, following the McG-directed version in 2000 and its 2003 sequel, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, both of which were based on the iconic 1976 TV series. Fittingly for 2019, Banks’ Angels have girl power attitude to spare, and the result is a flawed but fun action adventure that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Kristen Stewart plays sparky ex-con Sabrina, who works for the Townsend Agency as a secret agent (or whatever the Angels are actually supposed to be), alongside no-nonsense British Angel Jane (Ella Balinska). After their old handler, Bosley (Patrick Stewart) retires, their new handler (Elizabeth Banks) assigns them to protect genius-turned-whistleblower Elena (Naomi Scott...

Days after Sony's Charlie's Angels reboot fell to earth with a mere $8.4 million opening at the U.S. box office, industry experts are trying to figure out just where to point the finger of blame. And more important, how much weight does aging intellectual property carry these days when it comes to reboots of classic franchises?
The debate comes as Charlie's Angels — released 16 years after Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle debuted to $37 million in June 2003 — became the third consecutive franchise reboot attempt to bomb this month. It follows the dismal $14.1 million opening ...

19 years ago, Charlie’s Angels hit the big screen and I absolutely loved that movie, three years later they followed it up with Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and to put it bluntly the movie sucked. Now that the movie is in the hands of Elizabeth Banks, will she be able to do a better job than what we saw in the last film?
First of all, the Townsend Agency has existed for over 40 years. The Angels you may have watched in the 1976 TV series with Jill, Sabrina, & Kelly to the two films with Dylan, Natalie, & Alex have all happened. Banks has said “Charlie’s Angels was the beginning of female empowerment on TV. So, when we started the process of continuing Charlie’s Angels, we wanted to incorporate everything that had come before.”

Actress Kristen Stewart says upcoming "Charlie's Angels" isn't glorifying the characters as heroes, but is about "outsmarting someone for a good reason".
"Liz (Elizabeth Banks) took this world that we've all gotten familiar with and just expanded it. She hit fast forward and thought: where would we be circa 2018, '19? There's more of us. We're louder. We are stronger in numbers. And that really goes along with this distinct sense of self that we're developing in this particular generation. It's not always the people that are the most assertive or physically strong. It's genuinely about how you work as individuals together and how you become a formidable unit as a group," Stewart said.
