  Stefan : Maybe, but lately, I've been thinking. This feud has gone on as long as I can remember. Families have been separated, brother from brother.

  King Frederick : Stefan, King Wilhelm is our sworn enemy.

  Stefan : And it will always be that way unless we try to change it. Someone has to make the first move to forgive.

  King Frederick : No! Impossible! When you're older, you'll understand.

  [Stefan sadly watches as Frederick marches angrily away]

  King Wilhelm : Gothel, is that you? What are you doing here?

  Gothel : I came to clean up some loose ends.

  King Wilhelm : I knew her once, long ago. We were friends!

  King Wilhelm : [sits up]  "Pay again"? What are you talking about?

  [stands up] 

  Gothel : Let me ask you, Frederick. You hate this man. Why?

  King Frederick : He attacks my kingdom without cause!

  King Wilhelm : You stole my daughter!

  King Frederick : No! For the *thousandth* time, I never stole her!

  Gothel : No. *I* did.

  King Wilhelm : What?

  Gothel : She would have been *my* daughter if you had married me. I simply took what was mine.

  [smiles evilly] 

  King Wilhelm : *You* took Rapunzel?

  [furiously] 

  King Wilhelm : Where *is* she, Gothel? *Tell* me, you *monster*!

  Gothel : What does it matter?

  [blasts Wilhelm again; Wilhelm flies across the room screaming and lands on his back] 

  Gothel : You'll never see her again! Ha, ha, ha, ha!

  King Wilhelm : [sits up sadly]  My beautiful little girl.

  [Stefan and Frederick help Wilhelm to his feet] 

  Stefan : [whispering]  I've seen her.

  King Wilhelm : Where? When?

  Gothel : Now do you realise what a fool you were, Wilhelm? You could have had so much! You should have loved me!

  King Wilhelm : [spitefully]  You don't know what love *is*, Gothel!

  Gothel : I'm finished with you! *All* of you!

• [Penelope, having walked into the painting, magically appears in the royal garden; Rapunzel and Stefan gasp] 

  Penelope : [touches her belly]  I made it. I actually made it! Ha, ha, ha, ha!

  Stefan : [draws his sword]  Stand back!

  Rapunzel : Wait! She's my friend.

  Penelope : [lowers the sword's blade with her finger]  Watch it with that thing! Somebody could get seriously hurt.
