There’ll be some happy holidays on Prime Video in December, as the streamer’s seasonal offerings hope to keep the fires warm in your home this month!
As such, there are quite a few new original holiday movies coming to the service. At the beginning of the month, Eddie Murphy stars in Candy Cane Lane. In this film, the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star plays a determined man who is willing to go above and beyond to win the annual Christmas home decoration contest in his neighborhood – even if it means making a very magical deal.
The DC universe will also be getting festive in December thanks to Merry Little Batman, an animated feature that sees Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, stumble upon a villainous plot on Christmas eve, one that may give him a chance to save the day when his dad isn’t around.

Feeder have announced a new double album Black / Red for release on 5th April 2024 on Big Teeth Music via Townsend Music / Absolute Label Services. Black / Red completes a trilogy of albums joined to 2022’s UK Top 5 album Torpedo. New double A-side single ‘Playing With Fire’ / ‘Elf’ / is out now.
‘Elf’, which lead singer and guitarist Grant Nicholas describes as “a call to arms”, and ‘Playing With Fire’s “roller coaster ride of self-discovery”, reaffirm the band’s knack for sticky melodies and livewire riffs. Songs across Black / Red carry with them the same sense of wide-open space, freedom and possibility, aligned with an optimistic energy that first lit the fuse for Torpedo. Cohesive and connected rather than a concept, Black / Red is a continuation of Torpedo’s conversation but at the same time a full stop on a prolific songwriting period that encapsulates a very specific moment in time for the band.

“Ms. Itsuya isn't your average substitute teacher, her teaching method can only be described as “magical”. Meet her and her unique cast of students as she teaches them lifelong lessons and helps them work through complex family issues.” (Coamix)
You Can Read Ms. Itsuya on Azuki
Presenting an excellent piece of light fantasy escapism, Mizu Sahara's “Ms. Itsuya” thrives in a playful ambiguity that merges the fantastical with an emotionally fueled story intertwining one person's coming-of-age with another's quest to find solace through art. What transpires is an impressive addition to the Azuki catalog, which thrives in presenting smaller publishers with unique content that would otherwise only be available through limited and small press runs.
Where the manga thrives, in particular, is how its fantasy elements flow naturally into the story, creating a sense of wonder and mystique as opposed to utilizing the fantastical to create sensational content. Essentially,...

With its list of new releases for March 2023, Amazon Prime Video might be rolling out its most impressive monthly lineup yet.
We know that sounds like something straight out of a press release but in this case, it’s actually true! Prime Video, bless it, has some excellent original titles like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its monthly release updates have often been less inspiring than its TV peers. That’s certainly not the case with March 2023 though.
Prime Video gets its streaming party started early by premiering the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six on March 3. This series, based on a book of the same name, tells the fictional Behind the Music-esque story of an equally fictional band. Then, on March 17, Amazon’s partnership with Donald Glover bears its first fruit with the series about obsessive fandom called Swarm. Reggie Jackson documentary Reggie premieres...

March is still winter, no matter which animal you ask, which means it’s still completely acceptable to cancel all plans and curl up under a blanket in front of the TV. Prime Video’s movie library updates throughout the month, with most of its new additions on March 1 — including the “Rocky” saga, multiple “Carrie” adaptations, “12 Angry Men,” and more.
For Prime users who love books and TV, March means the highly-anticipated premiere of “Daisy Jones & the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The eponymous Daisy (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne’s band (Sam Claflin) make a mean match, starting with a hit single and leading to what seems like endless fame and glory. But where there is success there is peril, and both the band’s rise and an electric connection with Daisy threaten Billy’s marriage and everyone’s personal lives. James Ponsoldt,...

The Office was a landmark in must-see TV, but revolutionary? That’s what Rainn Wilson called The Office when the show began. He would eventually prove correct as many other shows mimicked the documentary style approach, and cringe comedy of The Office. However, that’s not what he called revolutionary.

Wilson was a part of the very first Television Critics Association panel for The Office in 2005. He described the characters as revolutionary, and here’s what he meant.
Rainn Wilson recognized ‘The Office’ characters had an underlying sadness
Wilson played Dwight Schrute, the Dunder Mifflin employee devoted to Michael Scott (Steve Carell). He would often chastise the likes of Jim (John Krasinski) for not taking the workplace seriously. Wilson recognized a common motivation for all the diverse characters in The Office.

Director Kevin Reynolds’ graphic, gritty desert combat movie is about a lost tank in the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. Besides being 98 an unpleasant downer, it now reminds us that we got into the exact same fix just a decade after the Russkis threw in the towel. Cruel Russki soldiers commit atrocities against vengeful Moujahedin resistance, and there’s really nobody to root for. George Dzundza, Jason Patric, Steven Bauer and Stephen Baldwin endure a rough ordeal out in the dirt, hoping for the next war movie breakthrough hit.

Bertram “Bert” Fields, the larger-than-life entertainment lawyer whose roster of star clients and studios spoke to a penchant for doling out legal threats with a rhetorical flourish, along with a capacity for winning lucrative settlements, has died at his Malibu home, his rep confirmed to Variety. He was 93.
Fields thrived on the notion that he never lost a trial, and even if the Perry Mason-like reputation wasn’t exactly true, he was a relentless litigator who defined some of the industry’s most heralded cases of the 1980s and ’90s, with clients that included Warren Beatty, Tom Cruise, the Beatles, Edward G. Robinson, Michael Jackson, Rupert Murdoch and, at one time or another, just about all of the major studios.
Cruise said in a statement, “Bert Fields was a gentleman; an extraordinary human being. He had a powerful intellect, a keen wit, and charm that made one enjoy every minute of his company.

March 2022 is a great month for blonde women with cold, dead stares on Hulu.

This story about high-level corporate fraud is truly wild, enough so to accommodate several books, podcasts, and even an upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence. Though Marvel has decided to consolidate all of its cinematic universe offerings onto Disney+, some outliers still live on for other streaming services. In May 2021, Hulu is set to premiere the latest non-canon Marvel series.
The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Sounds kinda fun! It’s no wonder that M.O.D.O.K. is the last Hulu Marvel show standing.
In non-Marvel offerings this month, Shrill will debut its third and final season on May 7. This comedy based on Lindy West’s memoir and starring SNL‘s Aidy Bryant has been a consistently bright presence on the streaming scene since...

Act Like a Man is a column examining male screen performers past and present, across nationality and genre. If movie stars reflect the needs and desires of their audience in any particular era, examining their personas, popularity, fandom, and specific appeals has plenty to tell us about the way cinema has constructed—and occasionally deconstructed—manhood on our screens.Harry Belafonte has lived so many lives. He has walked among the giants of politics and culture, from Martin Luther King Jr. to John F. Kennedy to Bob Dylan, and become a respected elder of the civil rights struggle in America. “If all of the people who hate ‘Ishtar’ had seen it,” Elaine May famously said, “I would be a rich woman today.” On Wikipedia’s list of the biggest box-office disasters, with losses over $100 million (at current dollar values), “Ishtar” doesn’t even rate a mention. That’s because the movie lost about $91 million — more in the range of a box-office dud like “Cats.”
But to this day, Elaine May’s 1987 comedy adventure about two floundering singer/songwriters meandering around the Sahara — played by Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman — is considered one of Hollywood’s great box-office debacles, rivaled only by Michael Cimino’s studio-destroying “Heaven’s Gate,” with its loss of $126 million.
Here’s why “Ishtar” outlasted so many bigger money-losers as the poster child for a troubled belly-flop.

Rock Hudson’s small budget big-explosion war movie applies decent production values and decent direction to a good idea, but substitutes some weak double-crosses for a real screen story. Hudson and his co-producer Gene Corman toss in a fine stack of quality actors… who don’t do much more than dodge tanks, flame throwers, and big explosions. Those explosions look familiar — I’ll bet they were recycled in more than a couple subsequent movies. Aiding and abetting handsome Hudson are George Peppard (manning a Tarantino-issue flamethrower), Nigel Green, and Guy Stockwell, who seems to be in Every Universal release around this time.

It’s now over a quarter-of-a-century since the hazy Texan night of Richard Linklater’s seminal coming-of-age slice of life, Dazed and Confused. A final day of high school classic that blazed a trail for the likes of Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart.
An ode to the power of time, particularly the moments we choose to cling to in order to define who we’ll become, or those that keep us in a perpetual state of stagnation. Youth has never felt as fleetingly powerful as it does during this dusk till dawn of hazing, smoking, and partying. It is released on Blu-ray today with a slew of new director-approved special features on the Criterion Collection – the best in the business.
The film ends with a sunrise drive towards the horizon in order to collect Aerosmith tickets, Linklater positioning its major characters on the cusp of rest of their lives. So while...

The quartet first released the reggaeton track in late September, previewing DJ Snake’s upcoming album, due out later in 2018. The as-yet-unannounced set will follow the French producer’s 2016 LP,...

I’ll be the first to admit I was rather skeptical going into Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, as the trailers seemed to be far more focused on the action instead of the horror to the story. But thankfully, my fears about the direction this new Mummy would take were quickly quelled about 25 minutes into the film, when I realized that this brand new Dark Universe that Universal is set to unleash was starting off on the right foot, because I was having a helluva fun time and was completely immersed in this world.
And while there was a lot of action to be found (I mean, it’s a Tom Cruise movie, and honestly, no one goes for the cinematic gusto quite the way he does), it’s apparent early on that Kurtzman wasn’t screwing around when it came to the horror aspects of The Mummy, making this...
