The carefree days of a happy lesbian Hong Kong couple are over when they are attacked by three drug dealers while enjoying a swim; the girls are raped and one of them is killed. Three years later, the surviving girl, now a boutique owner, accidentally runs across one of those men, and decides this is the perfect opportunity to take her revenge. "Lady Punisher" is a promising title, but the film doesn't really live up to it. There is too little of the title character in the first half, as the running time is taken up by (generic if decent) action scenes featuring the drug dealers and their deals gone wrong. When the Lady Punisher starts killing her targets, the film starts hitting the spot, having the heroine fight in her lingerie (she has a pretty great body), as well as involved in a dominant / submissive lesbian scene with her female neighbor who idolizes her, and who becomes her accomplice. But the ending is supremely unsatisfying (spoilers): the heroine's new girlfriend also gets killed by the main bad guy, but instead of him suffering a brutal demise at her hands, he only gets arrested by the police! My VHS tape box proudly proclaims that it contains the "full uncut version", but I highly doubt it - many scenes of sex and violence seem to be cut short. ** out of 4.
