Goth teaches goths about goth.
plushsnail26 June 2006
In "Goth," a young goth couple at a goth show in a goth club meet a tough goth named Goth. Soon, the goths are with Goth in Goth's goth van, where Goth shows the goths the true meaning of "goth." Will the young goths of "Goth" get back to their goth music and goth friends, or will Goth's version of goth bring the goths of "Goth" to their end? At the core of "Goth" is the goths' relationship with Goth and her version of "goth." "Goth" is an interesting portrait of goths in the goth culture, with Goth's version of goth a stark contrast to the goths' ideas of the goth world and what it means to be goth. Unfortunately, "Goth," despite Goth and the goths and the goth music, probably could've been a bit more goth.

"Suicide attempts don't count, especially failed ones." Pretty bad.
poolandrews17 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Goth starts as two wannabe Goth's Chrissy (Laura Reilly) & her boyfriend Boone (Dave Stan) arrive at a goth nightclub somewhere in Los Angeles & start dancing to some absolutely horrendous 'music', while waiting to use the toilet Chrissy bumps into a girl named Gothe (Phoebe Dollar) who says if she & her boyfriend meet her out back she can let them have some drugs for nowt, obviously too good an opportunity to turn down it's not long before all three are indulging in a drug Gothe calls 'White Light'. But it doesn't end there because Gothe is in fact some twisted messed up psycho who likes to terrorise, torture & kill people & she has decided to take Chrissy & Bone along for her latest night of fun...

Written & directed by Brad Sykes I don't really know what to say about Goth, I mean there's very little here by which to get excited about & it's a bit of a chore to sit through. The script which seems to take itself extremely seriously at least moves along at a reasonable pace & to it's credit it wasn't that boring but when the story, the character's & the dialogue are all so tedious & lame it sort of cancels it out. For a start no explanation was given for Gothe's motives, none other than she was a true goth which I would imagine could upset real life Goth's who wouldn't like being portrayed as vicious killers. The character's of Chrissy & Boone are terrible, they spend virtually the entire film discussing how to get away from Gothe yet do nothing, I mean Gothe is just a skinny girl surely both Chrissy & Boone could have overpowered her? Then there's the frankly ridiculous twist which is somehow supposed to connect Gothe & Chrissy but again this makes no sense if you think about it as Chrissy could have done what she was planning to a long time ago & saved us from having to sit through this which would have killed two birds with one stone. The set pieces & exploitation scenes are poor, it never really entertains or even amuses & then there's the mysterious van driver that we never see whose only purpose in life it seems is to wait in Gothe's van & drive her around wherever she wants to go.

Director Sykes is renowned for ultra low budget horror film junk like this & Goth doesn't exactly enhance his reputation, there's no style to the thing at all & Goth is the only film that has ever had me reach for the mute button on my remote control within the first 5 minutes as the opening scenes in the nightclub feature a truly horrible song that literally was giving me a headache so I had to turn the sound off until it stopped. The gore isn't anything special, there'some cutting of skin, there's a slit throat & a few stabbings but nothing to write home about. There's some nudity including some overweight women which frankly looks hideous & is far more scary & disturbing than anything else seen in Goth.

Goth probably had a budget that wouldn't stretch to a round of drinks down your local & it shows, the camera work is terrible & it was obviously shot on horrible grainy video, the lighting is poor & the production design consists of the back of Gothe's van & a few seedy hotel rooms. The music is grating & even the costumes seem flat & dull. The acting isn't going to win anyone any awards, Reilly & Stan are both awful although Dollar isn't too bad as the villain.

Goth is the sort of film you don't really watch you just endure it, the positive thing I can say is that it keeps moving but when everything else is so bad it hardly matters. Not recommended.

Haha the most UNgoth thing ever, but-!
sataniela9 September 2020
On the serious side.. the only *remotely* goth thing in this was the makeups. Nothing goth in the activities, attitudes or even the music. Now, if you don't watch this expecting something serious, it can be quite enjoyable. It's actually brilliantly ridiculous. Overally, watch it with the idea of how you'd be watching for example a high-school theatrical play. Or a raw home video, the whole VHS-y blend of it makes it like that, it doesn't look or feel like an actual movie haha. The people who made this probably aren't professional filmmakers, or even more so, movies aren't the main thing they do, it's more like part of something else. Have to admit though, Phoebe Dollar's character had some moments with potential. Should this be re-made as a real movie, it might not be too shabby.

You have got to be kidding me.
princessjenifer3 December 2004
My boyfriend made me rent this. He actually had seen it before, and wanted to yet again,"embrace the darkness". Not in a good way, but in a "Oh my God, this movie is so eff-ing horrible, you've gotta see it" way. There's nothing I can really say about this movie, except for it is absolutely ridiculous in every possible aspect, and the only real reason to watch it is for a laugh (although, keep in mind, the humor of it wears off after the first fifteen minutes, and then it dawns on you that you just wasted four bucks renting it). I've also noticed that "Brain damage films" tends to trick you by making the covers of their films look somewhat like an actual, "real" horror movie, and if you don't bother to read carefully enough, you could accidentally rent it, expecting something of far more superior quality. Don't be fooled!

Has to be seen to be believed!
Tish41810 April 2008
This movie is shocking, in every sense of the word.

The producer should be shot, for a start. The "special effects" were absolutely awful. The acting was some of the worst I have ever seen, as well.

The Movie tries to shock and sicken the viewer throughout, what with it's rape and murder, and completely neglects any other factors of the movie.

Overall this is up there with the worst movies i have come across, but for some reason I don't regret watching it. If you watch this movie, and realize that people made money making it, then you know there's hope for everyone!

Goth is a step above the usual ultra low budget fare.
stevendigitalarts21 February 2004
Goth is a step above the rest in the ultra low budget world. The story was solid and the acting is above average low budget fare. Phoebe Dollar and Laura Reilly embody their characters and are fun to watch. Laura is that girl next door you fantasize about. Director Brad Sykes did a fine job and the making of was interesting to watch. It is the first film of this kind I actually watched all the way through.

Goth, the Great and Terrible
thewag77714 October 2006
Well, this micro-budget rubbish is disturbing, to say the least. Not much of a storyline, but definitely shocking. Make no mistake, this is a terrible movie, and will definitely not be appreciated by those who aren't into terrible horror movies. Even those who are, you may like it or hate it, there is only one way to find out.

It is about Gothic couple who in a goth club meet a girl named 'Goth' played be Pheobe Dollar. Goth introduces them to this drug called 'White Light' and shows them her version of the Gothic subculture. Goth is cruel, perverted, and insane. I won't spoil it, but the movie has a few very disturbing rapes, murders, etc. and a plot twist or two, although there isn't much of a plot mind you.

Well, I don't regret seeing it. I don't think it was a waist of my time or anything. This is the kind of film for those who like this kind of primal behavior, but it is certainly no 'Last House on the Left.' Well, it was good enough to leave an impression, and I didn't hate it, so I gave it 5 out of 10. I only recommend this for those who like micro-budget slasher/sleaze kind of stuff. This isn't even for those who like movies like Evil Dead because they're so bad they're good. No, this one is bad, but shocking, which makes it worthwhile for a small portion of horror fans.

Add this one to one of the worst movies ever made
maryzaint26 April 2006
Wow. I rented this movie as a joke, and a joke is exactly what I got! :) My friends and I laughed at the silly antics in the movie hysterically! It is such a ridiculous exaggeration of Goths and their lifestyle, I often was unsure if I should be deeply offended or laugh till I pass out. You hear silly things often like "embrace the darkness", and other silliness, like you are not goth unless you kill and have orgies, etc. This movie is terrible. What's even worse though, is that while viewing the extra features like the making of, and interviews, you realize how SERIOUS the actors, and director were. I'm convinced they're legally insane. Beware. You will either love this movie because it's so bad it's good, or this film might force you to want to give yourself a concussion, in hopes that you will forget all about it!

OK, obviously it's no Lord of the Rings...
Danny_G1310 June 2005
Budget Goth subculture movie is nothing more than cheap and cheerful. Well, without much cheer.

OK, so this one was obviously made on a shoestring budget, and the production values suffer as a result...

Laura Reilly (Who?) is Chrissy, a 'goth' who embraces the superficial nature of the culture. Aided and abetted by her boyfriend Boone (Dave Stann) she goes to a gig at a club and encounters Phoebe Dollar's (Your guess is as good as mine) 'Goth', a sadistic and sinister goth who delights in making people suffer. She takes the 2 on a trip of violence, sodomy, and drug-taking.

OK, first off, the acting is not good, but it's the type of movie where it's impossible to act well. The low budget cheap film-reel is more Blair Witch than anything else, with the difference being the movie isn't filmed as a documentary. So it does look like a group of film students have taken a day off college to film a project...

The 'effects' are truly appalling - the blood literally looks like tomato sauce, and no attempt has been made to create convincing wounds. Apparently smearing puree on someone's chest is enough to tell us they've been sliced open.

The plot itself is daft, but quite honestly it's not hopeless. It's *reasonably* entertaining, and not overly predictable. Sure, it's not especially original, but it doesn't have to be.

As for the question of the accuracies about goth subculture, well I find anyone defending goth culture to be mostly misguided. People become goths because they're trying to be different, yet because it's such a common route to take, by trying to be different, goths end up conforming just like the rest of us. Plus true Gothic culture is nothing like the film portrays, nor anything like what most people think it is.

But this is academic and irrelevant.

Ignore the factual discrepancies, the poor special effects, the awful acting, and purely focus on the strongest aspect, the story, and you'll find this vaguely agreeable for an hour and a half.

Good character driven...This
pig_7110 June 2003
This, to me as a Brai Damage Film lover(well, some suck) was a wierd movie simply because it doesn't really rely on gore and nudity, but it relies more on the acting. Surprisingly the actors are ALL good in their parts especially at the micro budget of filmmaking. What few FX there are by Ron Karkoska are good, especially the slit throats. But the real downfall is that it gets real slow sometimes, but it really doesn't bore, and it ususally picks up. Worth checking out.

I can easily say this is the worst movie of all time.
eltringham12 January 2006
In 'goth' a young man and his girlfriend are drawn into committing various random activities by 'Goth', a woman with a powdered drug that apparently makes movie cameras swing randomly around the interior of vans. Repeatedly, the main character is coerced into doing something by Goth simply saying "You won't do it? You're not GOTH". The premise of this film is so outrageous that it is insulting. Watching this movie was neither boring or annoying. It was absolutely painful to watch. I have seen some bad movies. There is some entertainment that can be derived from watching movies that are "so bad they're good". This movie is so bad that I felt I was in cinematic turmoil for several hours after viewing it. The actors are hideous, the camera work is atrocious, and set design is ridiculously contrived/non-existent. This movie is so terrible I don't even suggest viewing it for the novelty of doing so.

By far the best D class movie ever
ketelbinkie8530 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I like low budget movies, the nice thing about it is that most of the time it's about spooky stuff..Also a favorite past time of mine. Most A Class horror use to much high tech shenanigans and are with a few exceptions always political correct. I hate that, i want to sit in a low budget theater (like the one in my house) and trow popcorn and beer to the screen and swear at the actors.

The story line is not important, since most most porn movies have better dialogues in it. the trick of xxx rated movies is, there is to much sex in it to notice. This movie has barely any sex in it.

I had an fantastic night watching this movie, i discovered a new drink called John Daly cocktails, order strippers after seeing this movie. And had a great Monday night....So i salute the makers of giving me a great night. And that is what the ultimate goal of a movie is, giving great nights.

Also on a side note and a spoiler, all the Goths i know are more or less portrait in this movie. The maker did his research well. So i give this movie a 10/10

Goth, oh bloody Goth!! This movie is not for everyone!!
hauntedtree10 June 2005
When watching a film like this and knowing the budget it was made for, it would not be fair to compare this film with the bigger budget competition. For often times the bigger budget can make up for a bad script by throwing expensive special effects, elaborate cinematography and/or big name actors. This movie unfortunately didn't have those luxuries. The script wasn't the most innovative. (even though it did take the normal formula and gave it a good twist. Especially the sex scenes are not what you would expect and that's what I like about it.) The special effects were laughable at times. the acting wasn't Oscar worthy, but it still was good . But when you compare this film to others in the same playing field. This film is a couple steps above the rest. It didn't rely on the normal formula of these low budget films that we are used to seeing, it was actually about the characters reactions rather than the gore effects. The photography is actually good for this budget, a little shaky at times, but again above the norm for this level. And the music is decent and not annoying bad. Brad Sykes has come a long way from "Camp Blood", way to go Brad. Phoebe Dollar is fantastic as "Goth", her presence is great. Laura Reilly and Dave Stan are really good as well, they were able to reach a decent amount emotional depth (considering what their tight time constraints probably were in the low budget films.) Overall, if you have a taste for very independent movies and overlook their low-budget short comings you might enjoy this one. If you are looking for the straight ahead horror/slasher that usually comes from Brain Damage, you may not like this one. Otherwise if you are not afraid of weeding through these things to find a decent movie, then check this out.

i'm devastated...
talel_bj7 August 2006
wow, this movie definitely is a new low. i have seen a lot of crap. my friend and i usually rent bad movies and we enjoy laughing at them, but this one is different. i'm not going to agonize over the acting (horrifying) or the pathetic "plot" if there is one. it's the disgusting nature of those sex/rape scenes that really upset me. don't get me wrong, i am certainly not crediting those so called filmmakers with the ability to create intensity, i found it was just poor in taste. i am not recommending this to anyone. it's bad bad bad. i'll rather cut my throat than watch this piece of worthless crap again (isn't that goth of me?)

terribly funny
all_movies_suck25 July 2003
I rented this hoping I'd get something a little bit different: a "gothsploitation" film that reveals the eeevvviiilll dark side of goth culture that those crazy kids are into nowadays, ala "Class of 1984" or something like that. I figured it would be laughably bad, and, yeah, "Goth" is that... but it actually tries not to insult its audience's intelligence THAT much.

Don't get me wrong; it's terrible and stupid, a very poorly written movie... but hell, what else WOULD it be? But it was just a little different from what I expected. The filmmakers obviously know little about the "goth" subculture (I don't know that much about it either, really, except that I think it's silly and some of the old "goth" bands like Bauhaus were pretty good), and luckily they don't really PRETEND to be authorities on it. They just sort of use some goth imagery and silly ideas about "darkness" to drive the (lame) plot.

Basically, a character NAMED Goth lures a couple of goth kids on a rampage of death and destruction by constatly taunting them that they're "poser" goths and through threats of physical force. There's alos some hogwash about one of the character's sisters being killed by Goth a few years back and some revenge stuff, but that's all besides the point and really quite useless to the plot.

Anyway, apparently, in order to be a real goth, you simply have to follow three rules:

1. "Embrace the darkness."

2. "Kill your fear."

3. "Live for death."

And apparently this entails having sex with/slashing up ugly, fat prostitues and stabbing random people in goth clubs. It's pretty funny stuff, and the gore is really quite pathetic if you as me. Best part of the movie is Goth's skull necklace that's top flips open to reveal a big pile of cocaine or something. Pretty sweet.

Atrocious but funny
nofuture5993 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
My favourite part was the following piece of dialogue:

"When she gets to the bar, run."

"If we run, she'll kill us both"

...??? Does that make any sense?

Don't worry, the rest of it won't, either. Character driven? What sort of characters let this woman rampage around? The assumption one can only make is that Goth is not only the strongest, but the fastest woman in the world.

It's also worth clicking on the link for the actor playing Boone, and finding his biography. I was blown away to learn this guy is, apparently, a talented actor with a genius' IQ. And a professional blackjack player!

I didn't watch the ending. Should I have bothered? Probably not!

Bad-ass movie
JohnDoe6922 November 2006
First of all I like to say I really enjoyed the movie... Why? Because it really sucked!

From the first spoken sentences in the movie you can tell that the actors are no actors. I even think they where bounced when they wanted to play in the school play. But like I said, I really enjoyed the movie. And the end is so bad that it really pays of to watch the entire movie.

I saw this movie recently and I know I'll see it again... Maybe in a year or five but I'll see it again.

If you think you can handle a very bad movie I surrely recommend this one. But offcourse only for people who like movies that really stink. Maybe you need some beers or probably something stronger... But I know there's a way to enjoy this movie!

This movie blows really bad
Spencer-Pellegrino8 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I know enough information about Goth to know what the Goth Subculture is and this movie named EVERY SINGLE STEREOTYPE IN THE BOOK. The subculture already has enough problems with discrimination as it is, and of course somebody just has to make a movie about Goth involving those stereotypes. At first I thought it was possible that this movie was made by goths as a joke but as I watched the commentary on the DVD I realized that the cast and crew were serious when making this movie. They were comparing this movie to epic slasher films like Friday The 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre when this movie is nowhere near that level of excellence.

There is nothing good about this movie, I tried really hard to look and see if there was something I liked about it and no matter how hard I tried the answer was NO! I'm going to put this pointless 90 minute movie into a few sentences:

A "Goth" couple head over to a club/concert and run into a women named "Goth." Goth takes the couple into a van and through out the night she does drugs and kills people. Crissy the girl in the relationship soon realizes that Goth was the one that killed her sister in the past.

Already when the they meet the women named "Goth" I was thinking to myself that this is a very pathetic movie. The blood looked fake, the acting was not good, it was hard to understand what was going on at times, and the kills weren't creative at all.

This movie is horrible, do not watch it. Sometimes when I'm watching a bad horror movie I think it's so bad it's good. This film couldn't even do that for me. It was just horrible and nothing but horrible.

Awful.
tooltime_tim29 February 2012
This is, by far, the most awful movie EVER. And I really mean that! I've never seen a dumber plot (and I've seen The Necro Files!), I've never seen worse actors, worse camera-work, and I really can't remember the music, so duh. Most "bad" movies are bad in a funny kinda way, this one is just terrible in every way. I hated the acting, I hated Phoebe Dollar, who is SO overacting that it's ridiculous, and I hate the way "Goths" are "portrayed" in this movie. I'm no Goth, but I do hang out with a lot of them, and they... Well, this movie is an insult to Goths.

I wish Phoebe Dollar and the director of this movie herpes. It stole 90 minutes of my life and 1,75€ a day for renting it out. Hell, I remember our local DVD store having a rack with 1€ DVDs and Goth was in it once, and I always thought: "Hey, you can't make any mistakes for a euro!"... That was until the day they offered Goth. This movie isn't worth the DVD it is burned on. Do never, EVER, watch this. Worst movie in the history of movies!!!

absolutely horrendous
alex-27576 February 2009
i cant even begin to describe what my was going through my mind when i decided to carry on watching this piece of trash. not only is this offensive to the goth community, it was offensive to my eyes.

whoever wrote/directed/produced/had anything to do with this atrocity deserves to be hung and drawn. the acting was worse than my high school drama class, the cameras were wobbling everywhere and the dialogue was uninspired and unoriginal.

the camera was hurting my eyes as well as the incredibly poor acting and the OTT 'special effects', they could've got stabbed in the foot and blood would've still gushed out of their mouths. the 'actors' (i use the term loosely) were just standing around like lost ducks waiting for each to go first. it's a pitiful film thats not even so bad its good, its gone past good and back to bad again.

this really isn't a film i'd recommend for anyone unless you really don't want a reason to live, but at the same time, if people get paid and famous for rubbish like this, then perhaps there is

Not Terrible
GrungeFan199624 August 2023
Goth is a 2003 film made by Brain Damage Films, who are known for making extremely low-budget horror movies, most of which are not good, however this one isn't too bad. In Goth, a young woman named Chrissy and her boyfriend Boone are at a goth club one night and meet a strange young woman named Goth who drugs them, takes them hostage in a van and gives them a ride they'll never forget. The character Goth is played by Phoebe Dollar who does a fantastic acting job here, she definitely knows how to play a villain, and totally owns her role! The other actors while not great, definitely did a decent job, everyone here clearly knows how to act even if some of them aren't great at it. Goth is not an amazing movie, I don't know if I'd even call it a good movie per-say, however I definitely enjoyed it. This film is extremely low-budget, it looks like it was filmed with a camcorder (it definitely was), but if you can get past that and go into this film with an open mind, you just might enjoy it!

A Good low budget thriller
pulpnicktion20 March 2008
Goth is about a Gothic couple who go to a club and meet Goth a girl who wants to show these two whats its really like to be a goth. She takes them hostage on a night of hell including drugs, rape and murder.Goth does get disturbing and is definitely not for all tastes.

Pheobe Dollor plays Goth and she is pretty good. Goth isn't any kind of a horror/thriller masterpiece or anything like that but for me it was an entertaining movie that I really liked.

Goth was released from Brain Damage films which are known for their low budget horror films. If you are a fan of those films check this out if not then I don't think Goth is for you.

"Embrace The Corona - err... Darkness"
This movie is not a must see - the script is uninspired, the creators conception of goth culture is skewed, and the dialogue is... well, in a word, horrible.

I have the feeling the actors were paid in beer (Watch the bloopers on the DVD, hilarious) for their hard work trying to make their characters human - the acting itself was indeed a fine affair given the sloppy, disjointed and unconvincing dialogue. Dollar makes a fine evil goth chick and it is very fun to watch her suppress her unidentifiable accent. The actors were obviously more cognizant of the campiness of the film than the production crew, who appear pretty drunk in the Interviews on the DVD.

A rental for lovers of unique and independent film. If you buy this and you habitually wear black cloths and dye your hair... you obviously don't know what goth is and have too much money for your own good. The goth lifestyle is really just an outlet for severe depression - not aggression. Goth (Dollar) put it very correctly when she said, "You call yourself goth and you've never even bled yourself?"

at any price this film is a waste of your money. and if it was free, it's a waste of your time.

beyond insulting to the entire goth subculture... i dare say this is the most horrible movie ever written.

i don't blame it on the low budget as the writing is absolutely inexcusable. and that crap doesn't even pass for acting.

and sleazy! the best sleazy films at least have nice cinematography, or a nice wardrobe.

this film offers neither.

bad clothing, bad acting, bad music, bad film.

Terrible, Yet Strangely Compelling
A9AMouse31 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think there's any question that this movie is terrible. However, for one of these D-grade horror movies, the effects and acting are surprisingly palatable. I actually started to care about what happened to the characters, and I find this incredibly impressive. I've somehow seen 20 or 30 of these films, but I can easily count on one hand the number that managed to pull that off.

As mentioned above, this movie is absolutely awful. However, it managed to disturb me and to make me empathize at least somewhat with the protagonists, and that is a major victory for one of these films. Congratulations.
