This is romantic comedy done right...
paul_haakonsen16 February 2021
Well, the 2002 Hong Kong romantic comedy can be summarized fairly quickly: as it is a very standard romantic comedy.

But there is more to the movie that just that. Sure, the storyline is fairly straight forward and generic, following the traditional blueprint of how to construct a romantic comedy. But this Hong Kong movie from 2002 manages to go a bit beyond your average romantic comedy.

The storyline is laced with great situational comedy, and the cast in the movie delivers spot on performances, which greatly helps setting the movie aside from many other romantic comedies from the same era. The storyline is actually rather enjoyable in "Love Undercover" (aka "San jaat si mooi").

And the impressive cast ensemble that appear in the movie definitely helps to flesh out the characters in the movie in a very believable manner. The chemistry between lead performers Daniel Wu and Miriam Chin Wah Yeung is really good and believable, and they make a very nice couple on the screen. But "Love Undercover" is more than just those two; it also boasts some nice performances from the likes of Shiu Hung Hui and Yiu-Ming Lee to mention the most recognizable of support casted actors.

If you enjoy romantic comedies and have a liking for the Hong Kong cinema, then this 2002 movie is definitely well-worth sitting down to watch. I was thoroughly entertained by the story and was enjoying the movie as a whole.

My rating of "Love Undercover" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Light Fluffy Romantic comedy
gorgonite31 October 2007
I watched this film based on all the good audience reviews I read. If anyone wants to see 2 fine actors such as Daniel Wu and Miriam Yeung performing in a wonderful, charming, romantic comedy then I'd have no hesitation in recommending ...Drink Drank Drunk.

If on the other hand staring at Daniel Wu for 2 hours would be entertaining for you, then Love Undercover is just the ticket!

Miriam plays a lovably dumb Policewoman who stumbles her way onto a case involving triads. Hunky Daniel plays the son of a triad who becomes enamoured by Miriam. Miriam likes Daniel but wonders is he or isn't he (a triad). The majority of the target audience are probably also wondering is he or isn't he (gonna take his shirt off).

This film is basically Police Academy set in Hong Kong. It's a little silly, a little juvenile, and also a little charming. It's good but not that good.

One Of The Best Funny Movie
lia0002726 July 2004
What a story, just look at this movie with your family or your friends or with your brother or sister, it will feel better. Why? (easy question) because this movie definitely very very funny.

The first time I saw this movie with my sisters we all laugh so hard. Just look at Miriam Yeung acting as an undercover cop who very coincidence liked by Daniel Wu (that was the first time I saw Daniel), she was so funny. Beside this movie is not having a short plot like other movies.

I should say to the director that he was succeed to make this movie as one of the best from Hong Kong's Cinema.

Daniel as a prince charming and Miriam as a modern and funny cinderella, why not?

surprisingly salaeble last year but comments went very extreme. perhaps hong kong's undergoing a transformation in culture. to those who in it find nothing enjoyable may also find nothing funny and even feel uncomfortable in this comedy. there seems to be a stab at the traditional value although not so sharp is it. so no wonder some people really get riled with its style. but something traditional or conventional is still preserved. like Pretty Woman, the love story offers a every-girl dream - a charming, rich and loyal boy friend. quite entertaining and some parts even moving. reason of course is not the main concern. in fact everything goes crazy. but can audiences other than those living here can grasp the humour ??? that's a question. perhaps it can be viewed as a key to understand the philosophy of new generation. the style reminds me of Johnny English. so take it easy. it's a nice comedy but please don't expect too much. 5/10

Man Jamie and his insecurities was hilarious!!
demastryj6 June 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this thinking I would give it a try cause I believed these guys were going to truly learn their parts and their new identities, but that was far from what happened. One contestant was exiting and after being told what they do in real life and she replied " you knew something was up because all the guys were not acting like they had regular job and were just regular guys looking for love, they acted like they were larger than life and it was confusing and she felt like something was being hidden and they were being lied to from the start. Plus all the scenes where the girls in episode 2 were like what does your interest do? They said I'm not sure. It keeps changing. I felt like this show shouldn't of aired it seemed rushed and honestly the character Jamie on the show was the oldest but whines like a fat kid at a school dance when no one will dance with him but he's sitting at the cake table and never trying to impress not one girl, just complaining no one likes him cause his dad bod. When he got up and said he was leaving I couldn't believe this was a man that had all the accomplishments and world cup wins and all his success acting like this. I felt like he turned it into a real house wives club and got his 1st crush and jus stopped looking for other possible matches cause he was so overlooked. Not cause he was not good looking, but cause he had for 1. No game which is crazy an 2. No confidence without his "swag" and 🏆's . That's why he's single and screams it. That's why he wasn't picked. Or he had an instant girlfriend soon to be his wife within e episodes????!!!! So weird. He was... just for a such accomplished guy and still so young I'm 45 he's "Jamie" 34/36 in age. He honestly ruined the show. I stopped once episode 5 aired and they started revealing who they were I was over it. I'm like these guys find it so hard to like us regular guys out here getting girls or men without winning any world cups. To see more then one guy on here with their stats acting like how unfair it was to act like a contractor or a sales ad professional which are amazing jobs, but they were obviously so beneath them honestly pisses me off. As a "regular" guy I found this so amusing to see such insecurities in such great men. Made me feel sad for them and had to stop watching cause you knew not one single relationship would pass the show ending. Which they didn't. ALL those beautiful ladies in batches let me and my "regular boys" get in there and be proud of our regular jobs and show these world cup winners. Cause if these men rely alone to get any attention is their bling and trophy's which theae guys have been around the world you would think they wouldnt get up to anyone and have zero to say. No wonder their past relationships hadn't lasted. I maybe a normal guy with a normal size wallet, but if being as successful as these 5 guys on the field can't get any off the field without paying for it. That's the saddest world and these guys been let down by their boys not building them up and their Dad's not showing them what being a real man to a woman is about. Maybe less football lessons and more how to be a man lessons were in order.

No new stuff, but cute and entertaining
kanty715 July 2003
Although Love Undercover isn't one of the best movies around, I believe it's worth watching. Fans of the romantic comedy genre and of Hong Kong stars Miriam Yeung and Daniel Wu as both the male and female leads, will find this movie worth their while. The suddenly flamting Daniel Wu seems to be everywhere these days and he'll probably go up from there. Miriam Yeung is adorable - it is no wonder why she is at the top of the box office. She'so at the top of her league - undeniably the best comedic actress around today. Sammi Cheng - she's hot on your tail! Pick it up - it'll give you some laughs and eye candy as well. :)

This is a great movie!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is the best. A romantic comedy with Miriam Yeung, she is a great actress. To tell you the truth this is the first time i had ever seen Daniel Wu. i have seen Miriam before but not Daniel, he is a total babe. In one scene they were protecting the dad because there was a bullet went through a banana because they are all undercover cops they protect him but he gets more beat up and not a bullet in him. And Kuen ( Miriam Yeung) falls in love with the "target" aka Hoi (Daniel Wu) and them she gets taken of her case. And they get back together planning to get married and he doesn't know that she is cop still and her since her father was shot that was before she got taken of the case finds out from her trusty ketchup bottle that has a mic, she finds out that he is going to kill Micky. And from then she stops the killing and they break up she gets shot by his ex girlfriend which he never liked and was jealous of kuen so its happily ever after and they get together.

A hilarious rom-com
TheBigSick22 August 2018
Daniel Wu and Miriam Yeung fit particularly well into their roles and give a solid performance. There are some interesting plot twists and turns, though the editing falls short. The lines are well-designed for a rom-com and the music score simply makes it more hilarious.
