Another BBC series not on iPlayer.

Deborah Bull is "the other" famous 90s ballerina, the other Being Darcey Bussell. She has written a couple of books, made some TV shows which do not appear to be listed on IMDB and is now retired from dancing and is now a member of the House of Lords. Lords a leaping?

This series aired many years ago and some of it can be found on YouTube in fairly low quality. Its odd that shows which were once highly rated aren't on iPlayer or even available elsewhere. I am guessing its because she is no longer young and seen as a celebrity these days.

It is an interesting show however the ratings are likely over inflated by fans of dance, likely dancers themselves. Its basically about how strong dancers bodies are and it isn't limited to ballet. She eve tries breakdancing with some fairly cringey white dudes Ali G would be embarrassed to stand next to, so bad is their pretentious "street" persona.

The problem with Deborah Bulls output is that she is a bit too feminist to be likeable. In her other show Dance Ballerina Dance she makes a big issue about the fact men have had so much influence in how ballet was developed. Yeah that and the rest of the world Deborah. Men built and invented pretty much everything you see, including culture. Which she seems to have a problem with, she even took issue with someone saying that men were stronger.

Having just read her book I decided to check up on her history of relationships with men. She was divorced then took up what sounded like a long distance relationship with a celeb physio which also hasn't lasted. She is apparently is now seeing someone who "makes films". This is likely her most liked series because she isn't on her "its not fair for women" soapbox. Its more about dance and little to do with her views on gender politics. Its hardly surprising that she and also Sylvie, another dancer known for being disagreeable when it comes to men struggle to keep hold of one once their youth fades. Maybe this series could do with a reboot with a younger dancer? Avoiding the feminist career woman message of course.
