As comedian Will Ferrell walked across the magnificent stage of The Kennedy Center to accept the greatest honor an America funny person can receive, The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, something happened that made us all remember why he is getting this prestigious honor. The award instantly slipped from Will’s hilarious fingers, shattering this legendary humorist’s bust all over the floor. An obvious gag, that was so damn fitting to what Will represents in the history of the art of doing silly stuff. Without breaking character for a second, Will hilariously tries to pick up the pieces as the world just sat back and laughed… but not laughing at him, we were laughing with him. The appeal of Will Ferrell comes from his innocent “I don’t give a f*ck” attitude that elevates simple stupid jokes to performance art. As Mr. Ferrell once said, “What I...

Billy Joe Shaver, the outlaw-country original who wrote classic songs for the likes of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings and whose “Live Forever” was performed by Robert Duvall in the 2009 Best Picture Oscar nominee Crazy Heart, died today after a stroke in Waco, TX. He was 81. A friend confirmed his death to our sister publication Rolling Stone.
Although Shaver never had much commercial success as a recording artist, he is widely considered among country’s greatest songwriters. All but one of the tracks on Jennings’ 1973 album Honky Tonk Heroes — an early benchmark of the “outlaw country” genre — were written or co-written by Shaver, including its famous title cut. His best-known songs also include “Ain’t No God in Mexico” “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I’m Gonna Be a Diamond Some Day),” “Georgia on a Fast Train,” “Tramp on Your Street” and “Try and Try Again.

Digital juggernaut Pornhub has offered itself as a streaming partner to Germany’s Oldenburg Film Festival, a 26-year-old indie movie event known for edgy programming and quirky celebrity tributes.
The offer, extended by Pornhub vice president Corey Price, comes nearly a week after the festival announced it will forge ahead as planned for a September run. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the festival is aiming for a combination of physical and virtual screenings. The move is yet another recent sign of Pornhub’s seriousness about participating in mainstream cinema.
While the festival has a lower profile than its sisters in Berlin and Munich, it is labelled by some as Germany’s Sundance, and touts an “openness to extremes” on its website. It’s also got history with Pornhub, having premiered an original short from the company called “Her & Him” in 2019, directed by former Disney star Bella Thorne.

Though they got their start together in 1996’s “Bottle Rocket,” Wes Anderson’s directorial debut, it’s been a over a decade since acting brothers Luke and Owen Wilson worked together on a film. Their last effort together being 2005’s ill-fated “The Wendell Baker Story,” which Luke also wrote and co-directed with their brother, Andrew. Since then, […]

Eva Mendes is mostly known for her work in big-budget studio flicks, and she isn't sure why. "I have actually done a lot more independents than big pictures, and nobody ever brings that part up," she tells us while doing press for her upcoming film the (relatively) small-budget, "The Place Beyond the Pines." She has a point. Last year, Mendes starred in the dreamy psychedelic flick "Holy Motors." Prior to that, it was a role in Massy Tajedin's "Last Night." In "Pines," she plays Romina, a woman coming to grips with a child she had with a vigilante / motorcycle stunt driver Luke (played by real-life boyfriend Ryan Gosling). Here, Mendes is completely dressed down, playing a character who's both physically and emotionally distraught. Needless to say, it's a far cry from her roles in "Hitch" and "Ghost Rider." Mendes spoke with Moviefone about her new film, the movie she wishes got more attention,...

Luke Wilson knows he plays the boyfriend a lot. It's one of the reasons for taking on his newest acting role in the indie thriller "Meeting Evil." In the film, Wilson plays a depressed and cash-strapped family man whose simple act of kindness for a stranded stranger, proves to be a terrible mistake. That mysterious man happens to be a maniacal killer played by none other than ultimate movie bad-ass Samuel L. Jackson -- and he decides to repay Wilson's gratitude by dragging him along a grisly, gothic joyride that wracks up a seriously bloody bodycount. Moviefone spoke with Wilson about taking a break from the light, romantic roles by doing something incredibly dark with an actor who's scary in real-life. During the conversation, Wilson reflected on the devastating failure of his and brother Owen's first movie collaboration, why he considers "The Royal Tenenbaums" to be the work he's most...

Subject: Will Farrell, 42-year old American actor and (alleged) comedian
Date of Assessment: May 11, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: "SNL"
Negative Buzzwords: Played out, overexposed
The Case: As an upfront disclosure, I must admit that Will Ferrell is not really my kind of comedian although, in his "SNL" capacity, he was actually pretty funny at times during the Janet Reno, George W. Bush, Alex Trebek, ridiculous male cheerleader, and even the Roxbury brother skits. As far as post-"SNL" careers go, Ferrell has enjoyed a pretty extended run. While he's no Bill Murray or Steve Martin, well, who is? The thing is, comedians rarely last too terribly long, no matter their shtick. To survive, they simply have to be able to revamp their images periodically, and Ferrell has already tried his hand a drama a few times in movies such as Stranger Than Fiction and Winter Passing. This weekend, he'll attempt to take...

By his own account, Luke Wilson should never have become an actor. Growing up in Dallas, he wasn't active in drama; he did one play in high school, and the writer-director yelled at him for not taking things seriously. He was "forced" into his breakthrough role in the short film "Bottle Rocket" by its writers: his brother Owen and director Wes Anderson. And he has never, ever had a headshot. Wilson explains in his signature laid-back Southern drawl, "I was told many times, 'You need one, go get one!' And I could never bring myself to do it. I'd go into auditions, and I'd see a stack of a thousand of them, and I would tell myself, 'I may not get this job, but I know I'm not going to be in that stack.' "While it would be easy to resent Wilson for his subsequent success, he remains...

Brothers Luke Wilson and Owen Wilson are frequently in the news for one reason or another, but it's a rare day that we reporters get to speak with the other Wilson brother, Andrew. He works in Hollywood, just like his siblings. He's had roles in "Fever Pitch," Mike Judge's "Idiocracy," "The Royal Tenenbaums," "Zoolander" and Drew Barrymore's upcoming directorial debut, "Whip It." He even co-directed 2005's "The Wendell Baker Story" with Luke.
Now, brothers Luke and Andrew are all set to direct together again. Speaking with MTV's Josh Horowitz while promoting "Whip It," Andrew revealed the first details on "Electric Avenue.
Hit the jump for more on this Wilson-driven project.
"I'm gonna direct again. Luke and I are going to do something... called 'Electric Avenue' starting in January or February," Andrew said. "It's going to be [starring] Luke and," he pauses... "somebody else who I'm not at liberty to...

The Wilson Brothers who teamed up to direct The Wendell Baker Story, Luke and Andrew Wilson will be teaming up again to direct Electric Avenue. Before you get too excited, it has nothing to do with the Eddy Grant song. Andrew explains that it's more like an awesome Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte team up from the 80s, "It's kind of like a '48 Hrs.'-type buddy comedy. Except instead of cops, they're reporters." Okay interesting, I usually enjoy most things that involve a Wilson brother...

Luke Wilson is getting very sleepy. The actor is set to star in Mike Judge's comedy 3001 for 20th Century Fox, playing a man who goes to sleep only to wake up 1,000 years in the future. Shooting is scheduled to start in mid-April. Penned by Judge and Etan Cohen, 3001 centers on Joe Bowers (Wilson), an average American who is selected for a top-secret hibernation program that finds him waking up and living among a society 10 centuries in the future. He finds that civilization is so dumbed-down that he is the most intelligent person alive. Judge is producing along with former Fox production executive Elysa Koplovitz. At the studio, the project is being overseen by senior vp production Debbie Liebling for TCF topper Hutch Parker. Wilson is repped by CAA and attorney Bob Wallerstein. Last year, he made his directorial debut with his brother Andrew The Wendell Baker Story for Franchise Pictures. He wrote the script for Wendell Baker and also stars in the title role. That film is due for release later this year. He next stars alongside his brother Owen in Around the World in 80 Days. Judge, the creator of Beavis and Butt-head and King of the Hill, most recently directed 1999's Office Space. He is next attached to direct Meat in the Freezer, also for Fox. He is repped by WMA, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Kevin Morris.
