I recently saw an A&E biography on William Shakespeare. I was actually very well pleased with it. One of the best things about this biography is that it is not boring. They include pictures and scenes from his plays, to keep the audience's attention, which will be very beneficial for the younger audience. It follows Shakespeare's life with fine detail, considering the limited information the world has about him. The biography speaks about his life on and off the stage, as a writer, a poet, an actor, a husband and father. They also give explanations tying the events in his life to the plays he wrote. For example, at a later age there was a point in his life when he was concerned with his daughter. So he wrote plays about fathers and their daughters. It also speaks about social issues that affected him, for example when the plague broke out and swept through London. After the plague, his plays showed a fascination with death, and we saw this with his excessive use of skulls in his plays. I feel as though I actually learned a lot from watching this biography, and I am quit delighted to have seen it. The autobiography leaves us with his legacy, making one understand the value of his plays, and how if he were alive today Shakespeare himself could probably not believe the impact his plays have brought to the world. Shakespeare plays are so universal, brilliant pieces that have been around for a long time and are nowhere near dying out any time soon.
