HIGHLY RECCOMEND YOU WATCH THIS IF YOU LOVE CANDYMAN!! :D

Can't believe I have Never seen this short behind-the-scenes documentary of the Original CandyMan. I read Clive Barkers short story The Forbidden in the late 80's and saw the movie in the theatre in 1992. Overall it well matched what I imagined in my head as I read the story and even had a few nightmares about it. VERY SCARY to learn how the actors dealt with REAL BEES. :O I'm allergic so that alone will give me more nightmares now. LOL I suggest you watch this before the New Candyman movie comes out this year. Looking Forward to it.

DVD extra

This extra on the Collectors Edition DVD of Candyman features some interesting observations and anecdotes on the film. Bernard Rose adapted Clive Barkers short story, changing the locale from England's Liverpool to Chicago, and making Candyman a black man which he is not in Barker to explore American racial attitudes about a powerful black man seducing a white woman. Rose says that the latter is also an exploitation of 2 'blots' in American history - the massacre of the American Indians and slavery. Filming also provoked reactions when it was finishing up as the Rodney King riots occurred. We see photos of Clive Barker's childhood, Rose and Virginia Madsen talk about how she was hypnotised for her scenes with the Candyman, and we also learn how the bee scenes were accomplished.

An interesting and informative retrospective documentary on "Candyman"

Warning: Spoilers
This nifty little 24 minute retrospective documentary is featured as a nice extra on the special edition DVD of the movie. Director Jeffrey Schwarz elicits revealing and enjoyable comments from brilliant original short story author Clive Barker, shrewd director Bernard Rose, lovely and charming lead actress Virginia Madsen, her equally pretty and appealing co-star Kasi Lemmons, charismatic lead Tony Todd (you gotta love that gorgeously rich and sonorous voice!), and practical producer Alan Poul. Among the topics discussed are changing the setting from Liverpool to Chicago, making Candyman a gifted black artist who was the victim of racism and hence giving him the elegant aura of a tragic wounded hero, how Todd's dignified presence and deep, resonant voice really brought the character of Candyman to life, the perils of shooting in a blighted inner city ghetto area, Todd having bees placed in his mouth for one key scene (yikes!), Madsen being hypnotized by Rose for all her scenes with Todd, and the coup of persuading renowned composer Philip Glass to do the superbly spooky and haunting score (said score plays throughout this documentary). Essential viewing for fans of the film.
