Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two is finally upon us after the writer and actor strikes delayed the release for a few months. The hype surrounding the film is massive and the review from our own Chris Bumbray says of the film, “In this day of assembly line blockbusters, it’s a miracle that director Denis Villeneuve has managed to get not one but two incredible, uncompromised epics like this through the studio system. It works as a tentpole blockbuster, but Dune Part Two is also filmmaking at the highest level.” Josh Brolin makes his return in the second part as well, and although the Academy Award-nominated actor has sealed himself in comic book movie history as one of the greatest villains with his role as Thanos, he still makes sure to talk trash where trash is due.

A very memorable Monica Rambeau scene from WandaVision with ties to Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is referenced in The Marvels, as revealed in new footage from the film.
Most MCU fans know the story of Wanda Maximoff by now. Forced to kill her one true love to prevent universal chaos, which then occurs anyway, Wanda travels to Westview, New Jersey. It’s there that she uses her powers to enslave the whole town, compelling them to live out her sitcom fantasy life.
When Sword agent Monica Rambeau passes through Maximoff’s Westview-engulfing Hex, she emerges with strange new abilities. This power-up will serve her well in Marvel’s next film The Marvels.

“Angel of Light,” a haunting new theatrical immersive experience, will debut at the historic Los Angeles Theatre on September 15, Bloody Disgusting has learned this week.
Created by Odeon, in collaboration with Fever, “Angel of Light” features an original storyline created by Chris Anastas and Mark Binder, in which attendees are transported back to Old Hollywood in 1935 to witness the gripping and terrifying story of Rota Krisha – where ancient curses, sonic secrets, and demonic possession intertwine.
Guests will find themselves at the Los Angeles Theatre to see Rota K. Preston’s debut vocal performance. Unbeknownst to the audience, the ancient Angel of Light curse is revived that evening – and attendees will relive the chaotic and unsettling tale through the combination of live performances, elaborate sets, and ornate artistry. The experience uses advanced technology to take those who dare deep into the past, including the power of Dolby Atmos sound, projection mapping,...

If playing as a charismatic dark magician who can summon a small army of creatures is your thing, then Warlock may be the best class in Baldur’s Gate 3 for you. Unfortunately, even the most optimistic Warlock player may soon realize that the class can sometimes struggle to find a home in the later parts of the game. Well, at least they can if you’re not using the best Warlock build.
For this build, we’re going to be focusing on a powerful multiclass Warlock that lets us get the most out of the class’ combat potential by borrowing a few attributes from Sorcerers. It’s called a “Sorclock,” and I think you’re going to love what it can do.
As before, though, please note that Baldur’s Gate 3‘s online character-building tools are still being optimized. As such, I’m going to be writing out some of...

Josh Brolin has posed nude to emphasise a point regarding a new project he’s currently filming.
The Avengers: Endgame actor is currently shooting season 2 of TV series Outer Range, in which he plays a Wyoming rancher fighting to keep his land.
Brolin wants fans to know that the new episodes will “take things in a different direction”, and to highlight this, he posted a photo on Instagram showing him wearing no clothes whatsoever – save for a necklace and a cowboy hat.
Outer Range season two had a showrunner overhaul when creator Brian Watkins stepped down following the show’s renewal in October. Charles Murray, whose credits include Sons of Anarchy and Luke Cage, is now overseeing the show.
“Prepping for a scene for Outer Range season 2,” Brolin, 55, captioned the nude photo.

It wasn't that long ago that Marvel Studios' plan to create a closely interconnected movie and TV universe sounded like poppycock. What if one of the films bombed or nobody tuned in for a particular show? For over a decade, the House of Ideas managed to avoid these roadblocks thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's domination of the box office, coupled with the loose -- and, if we're being honest, almost completely one-sided -- ties between the McU's movies and the live-action series produced under the now-defunct Marvel Television banner. It's why few panicked when ABC's "Inhumans" died on the way back to its home planet or Netflix's "Defenders" shows were casually picked off, slasher-style, in the lead-up to Disney+ launching.
However, now that Marvel has consolidated its movie and TV divisions under one roof, we're beginning to see the drawbacks of this approach. It was often near-impossible to...

In much of the same way that his earlier film “Hex” emerges as a bizarre updating of a popular foreign genre film before putting his own spin on things, “Curse of Evil” is director Kuei Chih-hung's updating of the 1953 genre title “The Maze.” Although originally started by director Fung Wong before taking over completely, this over-the-top movie features a roundtable collection of Shaw Brothers stars and contains just enough of Keui's trademark wackiness to be a highly enjoyable genre effort.

Josh Brolin’s career is nearing four decades, with some genuine classics and an Oscar nomination on his resume. But it is not without its duds, and if there’s one that failed the hardest, it’s undoubtedly 2010’s Jonah Hex, which found Josh Brolin as the titular DC character.
In a new interview with Variety, Josh Brolin bluntly put the “awfully good”-worthy Jonah Hex on blast, saying it was a bust both “creatively and monetarily”, a point supported by both the content and the fact that it pulled in just $11 million on a nearly $50 million budget. Brolin elaborated on what went wrong, suggesting it felt like the movie was thrown together, starting with director Jimmy Hayward—what, the Horton Hears a Who! guy couldn’t handle the material? “I remember it didn’t feel right. I loved that he was excited, but he just didn’t have the...

Forget about watching and rewatching the trailer for "John Wick: Chapter 4" in slow-motion until you know every frame of it by heart. There's another way to prepare for the film's upcoming theatrical release next month, and that is: by engaging in the obligatory "John Wick" movie marathon.
For a few lucky /Film readers, that's about to get a whole lot easier. Sure, you could fire up Peacock and do the whole streaming thing with the three previous "John Wick" movies, but you won't find Mr. Wick's secret stash of special features there. Fortunately, before the trilogy becomes a quadrilogy (to be followed by "John Wick: Chapter 5" at a later date), we're giving away a few copies of the new three-film "John Wick" steelbook box set, courtesy of Lionsgate.

Megan Fox was the “It Girl” of the second half of the 2000s. When she showed up as the love interest in Michael Bay’s Transformers, she quickly became one of the most desired women on the planet, but Hollywood didn’t quite seem sure what to do with her for the longest time. While Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was a hit, she was famously written out of the third film. Her roles in movies like Jonah Hex fell flat, while her big star vehicle, Jennifer’s Body, was a flop – albeit one that’s been reappraised recently.
While a lot was made over the fact that she compared her Transformers director, Michael Bay, to Hitler, there seems to be no love lost between the two, with him casting her in his two big-budget Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies as April O’Neil. They failed to launch an enduring franchise,...

Alt-j tapped Danny Brown and producers the Alchemist and Trooko to rework their song “Deadcrush” into a sleek jam. The track will appear on Alt-j’s upcoming remix album, Reduxer, out September 28th via Canvasback/Atlantic.
Alchemist and Trooko embrace and expand the steady, spaced-out vibe of Alt-j’s original, deepening its drum groove and slathering singer Joe Newman’s vocals in echo and reverb. Time never stops. And so the once-hot revisionist takes on a neglected character get neglected themselves, and re-emerge in a new format for something like an anniversary.
Or, maybe, y’know, Jonah Hex was always a quirky character, even in the context of Bronze Age western heroes — already pretty far out on the branch of quirky and unusual — beloved by a small cult rather than particularly popular at any time.
Well, whatever.
If you’re confused, here’s the short version of a typically long and convoluted comics history: Jonah Hex was a scarred Western hero in ’70s DC comics, jumped into a post-apocalyptic future for the ’80s because all the other cool kids were doing it, and has bumped around the fringes of various DC media properties since then, mostly back in Western mode as if Hex never happened. Some of the best stories about him were three mini-series in the ’90s,...

Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender ("12 Years A Slave"), at 39-years old, has the looks, chops and killer instinct to play the next big screen 'James Bond', now that dog-faced Daniel Craig has officially left the '007' movie franchise:
"To be honest with you", said Fassbender, "I think they should reboot the 'James Bond' series and go back to his origins as a soldier.
"I’ve got a great idea for it actually, so (producer) Barbara Broccoli talk to me..."
The stage-trained actor's feature film debut was the fantasy war epic "300" (2007), playing a 'Spartan' warrior.
Prior to that, he appeared in the HBO TV miniseries "Band of Brothers" (2001) and the Sky One fantasy drama "Hex" (2004–05).
He first came to prominence for his role as 'Ira' activist 'Bobby Sands' in "Hunger" (2008), for which he won a 'British Independent Film Award'.
Subsequent roles include playing a 'Royal Marines' lieutenant in "Inglourious Basterds" (2009)...

One of the less well-regarded comic book films of all time was one from only a few years ago - 2010's "Jonah Hex". A critical and commercial disaster, the $80 million budget project made just $10 million at the worldwide box-office and was the subject of scathing reviews.
Its stars Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, John Malkovich and Michael Fassbender managed to escape its stink without much damage, even so the film itself has become something of a poster child for how not to make a comic book movie. Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor ("Crank") were originally hired to write and direct but dropped out before filming and were replaced by animation director Jimmy Hayward.
Rewrites, production problems and reshoots soon followed, and it was an experience that Brolin doesn't have many fond memories of. Speaking with The Nerdist and The Frame, Brolin discussed the mess and why he signed up in the first place:

It’s been revealed today that Johnathon Schaech will play Jonah Hex in the first season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. The character is set to appear in the eleventh episode, with the possibility to then become a recurring presence.
As you probably know, this won’t be Jonah Hex’s live-action debut, as he was previously played by Josh Brolin in a critically panned film adaptation which also starred Michael Fassbender and Megan Fox. Here’s hoping that this outing goes a bit better.
For more on what to expect from Hex, check out the official description for the character, courtesy of The CW:
A true legend of the Old West, a morally ambiguous gunslinger with a penchant for danger. Surprisingly, he knows a thing or two about time travel and the future, but is at home in the Wild West. He’s been battling outlaws and gangs for awhile now,...

Jonah Hex is a former confederate soldier-turned bounty hunter who is facially scarred and is known to wield supernatural powers such as raising the dead from their graves. Academy Award-nominee Josh Brolin portrayed the character in Warner Bros. Pictures film adaptation, "Jonah Hex," which co-starred John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, Will Arnett, and Megan Fox.
On the inclusion of Hex in the show, Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim said, “Ever since we decided that ‘Legends’ would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West. But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West,...

Last year, As If celebrated 10 years since it came to an end on Channel 4. Digital Spy looks back on the cult series, speaking to several of the main cast about their memories of the show.
As If: 10 year retrospective of the cult Channel 4 teen drama - part 1
The sad fact with As If, is that it is almost impossible to track down today. The show has never been released on DVD, due to a copyright issue with the music. Without the music, it simply wouldn't be As If.
"Given the choice between no music so we can release the DVD, I'd choose the music," said Caroline Chikezie (Sasha). "They used to say the music was the seventh cast member, it was so important. It just took it to a whole new level. I guess it's worth not having a DVD release just to keep the music."

Myths are malleable, and BBC America's "Atlantis" twists ancient ones into new shapes. The lush 13-episode series launches Saturday, Nov. 23. Set on the lost island of Atlantis, it has a filmic look and tremendous fun with Greek myths.
In this, Hercules is an overweight blowhard played by Mark Addy ("Game of Thrones"). Medusa (Jemima Rooper, "Hex"), the hideous Gorgon who had snakes for hair, is now a sweet young woman. And Jason (Jack Donnelly, "Dancing on the Edge") is a hot traveler from the present.
"What struck me most is why hasn't anyone used this material before," Rooper tells Zap2it. "They are reinventing the stories as they want."
Fittingly, the series opens at sea, with Jason on a quest to find his long-lost father, whose submarine disappeared. Jason's small sub spins out of control and crashes, and he washes up, naked, on a foreign shore.

The CW’s The Originals unleashed a litany of mythology this Tuesday, including answers about witchy Davina’s mighty abilities, Sophie’s mission and the power struggle in New Orleans.
Although the hour was exposition-heavy, the various conversations and flashbacks were expertly threaded together, filling in the blanks (so that’s how Marcel came to be Davina’s protector) and taking some unexpected turns (let’s just say those Deveraux sisters are crafty).
Here are five things we learned during the intel-packed episode:

The Starz series "Outlander" has added another piece to its cast in Laura Donnelly.
Donnelly, who co-starred in ABC's "Missing" in 2012, will play Jenny Fraser Murray in the series based on Diana Gabaldon's novels. The character is the older sister of 18th century Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and runs the family estate, Lallybroch, when Jamie is away. She's married to Jamie's best friend, Ian Murray.
Jenny also has a good relationship -- at least at first -- with Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), the 20th century woman transported back in time and forced into a marriage with Jamie.
Donnelly's other credits include "The Fall," a British minseries distributed on Netflix here, and guest appearances on "Merlin" and "Hex."
"Outlander," executive produced by Ron Moore ("Battlestar Galactica"), is filming in Scotland and is scheduled to premiere in the spring.

Juliette talks creating Classical Greece in modern-day Morocco and Wales with Atlantis production designer Paul Cripps...
Having worked on Merlin, Demons and Hex, Paul Cripps is no stranger to creating a colourful fantasy show on a budget. We sat down to chat with him about his work on Atlantis, from what inspired his set design to the practicalities of putting the show together in under a year.
What can you tell us about the different styles and influences on the set?
We tried to avoid too much of Classical Greece. Most of the Greek myths were set in an earlier time anyway. Everybody has an expectation of what ancient Greece looks like, and it’s normally Classical Greece [c480 – 323 BC, with the architecture of Classical Athens particularly well known – DoG], but we wanted to move away and make it a little bit more tribal, a bit earlier, so we’ve taken it more towards Bronze Age Greece,...

Juliette chats to Atlantis actress Jemima Rooper about what to expect from Medusa in the new BBC One series...
You might know her from Hex, Lost in Austen or perhaps as George from the 1990s adaptations of The Famous Five, but this autumn Jemima Rooper will be appearing in a rather more exotic role, as the soon-to-be cursed Medusa in BBC One’s Atlantis. We met her at the set to quiz her about what we can expect.
When we first meet Rooper’s Medusa on screen, she won’t yet have her famously dangerous barnet of snake-hair. “She comes into the lives of the three protagonists and has a lovely romance with one of them… unless the curse sets everything off on a completely different course,” Rooper tells us. “I now know how the curse comes about and what happens, but we’ve yet to film it.

Last year’s Season 1 of BBC America‘s Bedlam was super. It featured twisty creepy stories of twenty-somethings who lived in recently modernized flats that had once been part of a mental institution. Unbeknownst to them, there were other, less-corporeal residents there as well. The new season takes place in the same building with a new name.

If you missed Hex the first several times it’s been on here in the Us, you’ve missed a treat. As campy and sexy as Lost Girl, as supernatural-filled as, well, Supernatural, but with a distinctly British flair (and dreamy accents) that will hook you instantly. And the cast is notable, with one standout in particular; I knew I’d seen Michael Fassbender in a few things before Prometheus, but I never connected him with his excellent role in Hex until now.
