Not Much To See Here
dabrahamson-9746923 July 2018
I don't hate it as much as most of the reviewers here seem to but this was not a very good show. It was just a host who pretends to con people out of stuff, and most of his cons aren't even that clever. Carrying around your old fast food restaurant cups in a bag in your trunk just to get free drink refills? That's a pretty pathetic con and super gross to think about actually doing with a gross old garbage cup. Taking receipts out of garbage bins and using them to complain you didn't get your food is just sad too, maybe that's a good con for a homeless person who is starving though. Holding tree branches in front of no parking signs and taking a picture of it to get out of a $20 parking ticket is just sad too and also again not a clever con it's just lying, plus you'd have to spend half a day in court and perjure yourself how is that worth it? The host was not likable or funny. I give it a 4 because it wasn't a total train wreck and I think it deserves a higher rating than it has now. Why does everyone always seem to vote 1 or 10?

Dull and childish

Warning: Spoilers
I thought this show would be about cons, and in a way it was. I was conned out of about 20 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. The "cons" in the pilot episode range from the moronic, where Skyler shows us how to save fast food cups to get free soda (wow!) to the downright offensive, where he prepares to fake being homeless by visiting actual homeless in LA and asking them if his clothes look crappy enough for him to pass as one of them. He then unveils his cover story; you know, the reason why he went crazy and now lives on the street. This leads to an unexpectedly funny moment when a homeless man, clearly baffled at this elaborate and stupid story, points out that all the reason you need to be homeless is to be hooked on crack. The remainder of the cons in the show revolve around Skyler convincing businesses to donate their services for free in exchange for being mentioned on a fictional TV show. The irony, of course, is that this really is on TV so the businesses haven't really been conned at all. All in all, I would guess that legal constraints prevent Skyler and company from showing actual cons, so the show will always be sophomoric pranks instead. Bottom line, skip 'Con' and rent 'The Sting'.

I am not impressed
hmaytag17 May 2005
On top of the fact that Skylar is a complete douche bag and his cons are unimaginative, his schemes require way to much preparation to make any of his scams worth while. Without giving away any spoilers (as if it matters with this piece of crap) his cons are such a sham because it takes the effort of days and days of planning, and the use of multiple accomplices and an entire camera crew etc. just to scam someone into a service that would cost less than a hundred bucks.....in addition if you read in the credits they re-stage some of the phone calls etc. because they don't pan out...The whole concept of this show is bunk because all of his cons have the cost in both the crew and the effort of ten times the actual cost of the service he is trying to get for free...what is the con?

Boo!

Con is a terrible show. Why are they running it again? When I came on here to complain about it I figured it was just a bad new show and now I find out that it was on in like 2005? Maybe that helps explain why it seems old and unpolished but why on earth are they rerunning this again when judging by how bad the show obviously is and all the negative comments and votes here people obviously didn't like it so why are they rerunning this again? they should bring back new episodes or reruns of flight of the conchords or something else instead, or old kids in the hall or Monty python or sctv, comedy channel here in Canada just can't seem to get it together, all their shows suck.

Flush!
jpandemily11 July 2009
I have decided to flush this show from my memory down the toilet of bad TV show into the obscurity of forgetful, disappointing, pointless, garbage TV show hell.

The Skyler guy who is the host/star/creator of this show is boring, uninteresting, unbelievable, not particularly good looking and not at all funny, in short why is this guy on TV and especially why is he in a comedy show when he's not funny, pretending to be a professional con man when he definitely is nothing but an obvious pretender? Others have said it here already but this guy is a total fake and fraud, if you believe any of these cons I think you should seriously consider going to get your head checked because they're all fake, and the ones that might possibly be true are so pointless, like spending all day to con someone out of giving you an average meal at a restaurant? Seriously this guy needs to go away, glad this show got canned.

Innovation
myjumpsuit13 January 2007
Skyler Stone is the Sacha Baron Cohen of the USA. They both are humble and sharp as a tack. They both have insatiable will power to deliver their goods without sacrificing their vision. They are both innovators. I can't wait for Skyler's Revoltion. I have been close with Skyler for coming up on 8 years. He has always been the one guy who gets things done. In a world of talk, Skyler actually follows through. He is a strident comedian in the sense of how he has studied the greats, like a great jazz musician must study the greats before he can truly break new ground. I see Skyler breaking ground all over the place. He can do it because he is a real guy. He has a huge heart for the real people in this country and can connect quite well because of that ability. His senses are razor sharp and his sensibilities are grand. He could connect with any age person--not because he wants anything from them, but because he actually cares. That's almost too big of a heart to have in showbiz, too many nights crying because the underdog gets his due punishment... Skyler just give up being so real... no person can endure the heart ache... it's too harsh of a world out there... you need to insulate yourself. Just kidding Sky-pony... Give 'em heck. The world needs it. Much love, Countach

Uninteresting, unintelligent and pointless.
mazunderscore12 April 2007
What exactly is the point of pretending to "con" people out of things like ski passes and pizza? I fail to see a point. I'd not clever or original and it strikes me as being extremely pointless.

Skyler Stone doesn't seem to be a very down-to-earth or even a nice guy. He has very little charisma and just about anyone could do what he does in this show.

The worse thing about this piece of crap, is the fact that a lot of the phone calls are reenacted, so not only are they apparently conning the poor people on the other end of the phone, but they are also conning the audience who don't have enough time to read the "disclaimed" that flickers across the screen for about half a second at the beginning at the end of the show!

Not only that but he also claims this is how he lives his whole life. What an lie. No one could live their lives like this and the fact he says this is not only yet another con to get his show watched, but it's also one of the most fabricated, blatant pieces of bull$hit I've ever heard. This guy is an @$$!

What makes them think that going to all the trouble of, for example, write and record a song, get someone to pain a HUGE picture of you and two mates, get dance lessons and actually travel to a ski resort is actually worth only getting free ski passes and some food for free? What is the point of that? It's an awful lot of trouble to go to just for a few ski passes and a bit of snow.

As far as "comedy" goes, this is bottom of the barrel stuff.

con is a riot!
lindsayelise12 January 2007
the value in this anti-reality show? it is by far ANTI reality with a smirk... skyler stone and his little entourage seem to really just be those indie film types that take this concept of "con-ing" - and kind of laugh in the face of other reality shows - and do it quite well. seeing stone tap dance as the homeless guy from the homeless makeover episode - (if you haven't seen these gold tap shoes, you are in for a treat). ha, and who shuts down an entire mountain to film a boy band video and resurrects the puffy-style snow suit????!!!! i must say, there's a little new york cult following and we're trying to find a way to stream episodes or get the DVD - anyone find the postings to do this???

If you're looking for a smart and thought provoking show in Con, then that's your mistake.
johnyjoe15 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Con is about a loser who screws people over by making up these big complex plans just so he doesn't have to do these things the regular way (or in some cases, just to be a total jerk). I guess the commercials are a tad misleading, as he is no conman, nor is he very... bright. All in all, this show is pure entertainment, although a tad corny at times. A lot of it is fake (as written at the end of the show) because they couldn't have filmed the real thing. But it's not like they didn't actually pull these stupid tasks off. Some episodes show ridiculously pointless cons (like the dry-humping porno one), and some are actually real good (like the free vacation one), but every episode I have found myself laughing at the stupidity. So overall this is a really good show. It may not be classy or professional, but it's funny, and that's all that matters.

Anyone who seriously believes this crap is real is just plain stupid. Even if it was, it would still suck. It's a bunch of sleazy trash, plain and simple.

Skyler Stone isn't a genuine con man. He's just a smug moron who somehow managed to get his own show. Gah...I can't stand seeing that stupid smirk on his face. The only people he's fooling are the 60 IQ audience.

Unfortunately we may see a small wave of idiot kids who try to imitate this garbage and think they're uber slick con men.

It's unbelievable how much crap gets on the comedy network nowadays. I thought they reached their lowest point with You Bet your ass". How wrong I was. Hell, I'd almost rather watch Girls Will be Girls...

Oh wait...no I wouldn't. But seriously, don't bother with this pathetic excuse for a show.

I think that if you like this show, then you must have an IQ of 1 or lower!Skyler Stone...SUCKS!He is NOT and he will NEVER be a con man.

I am glad they don't show this piece of crap show anymore...the better shows are drawn Together, and Distraction and The Mind of Mencia.

I saw one or two episodes of Con and in the middle,i switched channels because it sucked so bad!he is just a moron who thinks he is a con man...but he is not!Skyler just got lucky with all that crap that he was doing!I recommend that you never watch this show if it ever comes on again.

I may have repeated most of the other things...heh

I never thought watching TV would make me want to end my own life. But this show has made me want to do exactly that. The skyler stone guy isn't funny, he's obnoxious and a tool, I would rather watch mind of mencia then this show. The show is obviously staged as well. Comedy central must have ran out of mad TV reruns so they needed to fill the space with some new crap. They did a pretty good job; they found the worst crap thats available. For some reason they thought this show is more funny then Stella. Stella was the best show ever along with strangers with candy and kids in the hall. They take those shoes off and put this show on. Con is a wonderful example of the dumbing down of America.

Kind of stupid
Humanoid Typhoon21 April 2005
The show is supposed to be about cons, but if you know anything about legitimate conmen, you know Skyler Stone ain't even close to being one. Instead of conning people for big payoffs, he develops these absurdly intricate plans to get such "great" stuff as his apartment cleaned and a free meal. With the time and effort he puts into these things he could just as easily (or more easily for that matter)do them the normal way.

It's also worth noting that the disclaimers before and after the show sort of take away from any sense of realism that would be present. They flash them so quick you barely get a chance to read, but it does mention that some scenes are staged and that some parties have been compensated for their appearances.

Some "Con man" Stone is. Don't waste your time and hopefully it'll be cancelled.

You know, I love the prospect of conning honest, hard-working people out of their services just as much as the next guy, but Con is just boring. It seems like Skyler Stone always has to work up a ridiculously circuitous plan to achieve the simplest of ends.

The circuitous planning wouldn't be bad if it were applied to grand schemes, but more often than not the cons on Con are so small in scope that I just can't bring myself to give a damn.

In one episode Skyler created a convoluted plan to get models to believe he's a photographer and clean his living room... oh, burn! And all it took was 3 days of rigorous planning and preparation! Con would be great if the cast would just pull a great con, but as it is it's just boring.

I couldn't stand this show. so glad it got canceled quick.

I can't believe the Comedy Network (Canada) re-aired the episodes of it they must be so desperate for any programs at all. I'm sure they just got it cheap.

The guy on this show is so annoying and untalented and not funny at all.

He is just so unlikeable, I hated him and even though every scheme was obviously scripted and fake (not to mention stupid) he was such a jerk for pretending to do such stupid stuff and thinking he was cool.

He's not cool he sucks.

My grade, One out of ten.

Stupid Show
steveadams-11 August 2009
Con is a stupid show, I can't believe it is even rated at 3 out of 10 here on IMDb.com. First of all for starters the host is truly stupid, he could just have a job and pay for his fast food and soda pops and do like half the work he does with his "amazing cons" to get these things for free, like fishing around through the garbage to get a cheeseburger receipt then calling the head company to complain about the cheeseburger just so he can get a free replacement cheeseburger and drive to the restaurant and pick it up? Wow you just did an hour of work, worked up your cellphone bill probably, wasted gas and most importantly wasted all of that time, plus you had to root around through a disgusting big barrel of garbage, all to get one free cheeseburger from McDonald's that is only worth like one dollar. You're an idiot. He also had empty soda cups in a rack in his trunk so that he could go to restaurants and rip them off for free refills, again this is disgusting he's only saving maybe a dollar plus these little cardboard cups get all gross from soda pop syrup and also start to fall apart, on top of that you risk walking into a restaurant and being called out for obviously being some idiot who hasn't bought anything there and is just coming in with his own cup, of course that would make this show interesting and funny instead of just stupid and pointless and completely not funny at all. Con sucks.

what a great idea

Come on everyone cons people, if you are not you are dumb. Con is one of the only real shows on TV these days, if you look at all the reality show out there. Everyone on these shows are dress up and all dialed in to the way they look.

Skyler Stone is as real as it gets, he is just a hard working man in showbiz.

Give him some credit he thought up this show and made a demo DVD all on his own with his own money, would you do that? I think Con is the best reality show out there right now and you will see more of Skyler on other shows and movies in the near future.

Don't listen to the previous posts

A show like "Con" doesn't hit TV anymore. It's 150% frivolity and 200% entertainment (excuse me for that child like statement) Skyler Stone takes you through a highly intricate con to support himself in the ragged environment he lives. Be it having scantily clad women clean your house under the guise of a photo shoot for a men's magazine or just getting free pizza from just saying you were dissatisfied w/ your last order; Skyler Stone is a man who, like the imaginary Parker Lewis a decade before him, CAN'T LOSE! I myself after taping 1 show was basically infatuated by the concept, and even if it does go after a few episodes like those more 'sophisticated' users who belittle this show would say, i vow to tape EVERY SINGLE ONE and take them to heart!

A very fun and entertaining show
markmkm8821 February 2006
Although some phone conversations are re-enacted, the show is not fake. It is exciting to watch Skyler Stone prepare, plan, and use his personas to pull of a well-played con. I recommend everyone to watch this show, it is guaranteed to hook you in. The show itself is original and contains comical situations. Don't believe everyone that says that it is phony because they don't know that they are talking about. Sure it takes editing but so does every show on the air. Some of the stuff he pulls off can't be made by "slick editing" but instead a good plan and some improvisation. I am dismayed by the comments left for this show. Even though it rarely airs on Comedy Central anymore I recommend catching as many re-runs that pop up on Comedy Central.

Clever!
General_G2 September 2005
Skylar Stone came up with quite a clever show, but he kind of made it obvious that it was fake. On one episode he vandalized a street sign that said no parking so he could get out of a parking ticket. He spray painted right over the words! That illegal! What I did like about the show is that it was just clever like getting a free dinner or make over or any of the other ones he did. The show couldn't of been very successful though because if the show got famous everybody would know who he was and know Mike St. Aubin wasn't a real person. My favorite episode was the Brad Pitt episode. You got bitched Brad Pitt look alike!
