Passable third outing , this time Torrente reunites a geek gang to protect an important Euro-representative
ma-cortes7 November 2015
The horrendous Spanish detective becomes a bodyward in his new third adventure, being performed by José Mota , Yvonne Sciò , Eduardo García , Fabio Testi ; and of course the great Santiago Segura . So-so Third entry in ¨Torrente series¨ starred by the most grotesque detective and well played by the one-man-show Santiago Segura , he is a real private dick , a poster child for police corruption . Featuring politically incorrect private detective Torrente , he is a macho man , lazy , rude , sex maniac , drunkard , Athletic fan , caring only about protecting and serving himself . He is a Bad Santa of the police force , a peculiar and fatty man , being a ¨El Fari¨ fan , too . Despite that , he still manages to get the job done . Torrente follows the exploits of Jose Luis Torrente , a piggy and uneducated man acting for his own selfish purports . In previous outings Torrente was rejected from police duty and he returned to private investigation . Later on , the botcher ex-dirty private eye forms a new band of underdogs (Xavier Deltell, Jose Luis Barragán , El Risitas , Jimmy Barnatán , Caña Brava , among others) to carry out a security mission to protect a known person , the beautiful woman Giannina Ricci (Yvonne Sció) . Torrente gets involved in the middle of a nasty's plot schemed by a mobster (Fabio Testi) , owner an illegal multinational called Petronosa . As we find our anti-hero in a delicate situation but he can count on to help him some people , as junkie Josito (Jose Mota) and his equally freak friends .

This is 3º installment and acceptable sequel in Torrente series . These films are made to entertain , and this movie , especially for a good time and a nice entertainment . "Torrente" is a decent and unapologetic dark comedy with great special effects , dirty humor ; it has several funny and hilarious scenes and quite successful action scenes with persecution , car crashes and many other things . The picture contains thrills , noisy action , tongue-in-cheek , grotesque situations and above all , humor . Although there are also nudism , bad-mouthed language , bad taste jokes and profanities . ¨Torrente 3¨ is written, directed , produced and stars Segura, whose production house Amiguetes Entertainment produced the film , UIP holds Spanish distribution rights . The screenplay is absurd as well as crazy , just what makes laugh a lot , that the character "Torrente" a very slutty , clumsy , sexist , Machista , extreme-right-wing , on a real person is despicable , being not adequate , but this is a film that satirizes all this and that just means he's a pathetic character , though he also has his unsettling charms . This third Torrente grossed enough success at box office ; however ¨Torrente , El Brazo Tonto De Ley¨ set box office records in its day, took $707,000 and Torrente 2 grossed more than €22 million in 2001 . The film contains many cameos of famous people, familiar faces such as Tony Leblanc , Enrique Villen , Enrique Sarasola , Jose Luis Barragan , Carlos Latre , Jimmy Barnatan , popular footballers ; of course , El Fari , and several others . Many of them famous from ¨Cuore¨ magazines . And cameos of famous filmmakers such as John Landis, Oliver Stone and Guillermo del Toro . The cameos are very amusing and fun and there are lots of laughters and jokes . The movie contains a colorful and adequate cinematography by Unax Mendia . Thrilling as well as appropriate musical score . The film takes advantage of impressive special effects , especially on its final part when takes place a breathtaking chase among cars , including : bound and leaps vehicles and expensive crashes . In fact , this Torrente was Nominated Goya Best Special Effects to Antonio Molina and Ferran Piquer . Santiago Segura dares to make films with total entertainment and bemusement . And "Torrente " is pure eschatological fun , it is 100 and some minutes of fun and laughters . It is a commendable effort by Santiago Segura to make a film like this . Few directors are able to achieve results as ¨Torrente¨ , the biggest box-office in Spain until ¨8 Apellidos Vascos¨. This film will not disappoint Santiago Segura fans.

The first instalment was ¨Torrente El Brazo Tonto De La Ley¨ ; being followed by "Torrente 2: Mission in Marbella" with Juanito Navarro , Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez , Paloma Cela , Santi Millan , Jose Mota , Pablo Carbonel ,among others ; ¨Torrente 3 El Protector¨ in which the horrendous Spanish detective becomes a bodyguard , ¨Torrente 4 Lethal crisis¨ with Kiko Rivera , Javier Gutiérrez . And finally ¨Torrente V : Misión Eurovegas¨ has a good cast as Alec Baldwin , Anna Simon , Neus Asensi , Carlos Areces , Chus Lampreave and many others . The movies were written by, directed by and starred popular Spanish comedian-director Santiago Segura and is getting the remake treatment from New Line Cinema ; all of them were produced by Andres Vicente Gomez, who exec produced the Academy Award-winning Belle Epoque .

Torrente 1 rules
tuquito7219 January 2007
I like the first one because I laughed a lot by watching it. It was really something different to what we're used in my country (Hollywood BS mostly) and jokes were fresh... Second and third movies had to come (due to 1st one's popularity) and even when the jokes were not very original, I think the character is. Actually, if you take the 3 Torrente movies and compare them to any Hollywood-made pseudo comedy/action/Wayans Bros type of movies, Torrente 3 it's a blast. What's good about Torrente movies is that he still keeps identity (director hasn't tried to "globalize" the character, it's still a ruined "private eye" from Madrid). Of course, jokes are repeated all over the movies but aren't they much more fun than those jokes used again and again in lousy movies like scary movie or naked brain (I mean naked gun)...

No new stuff in this one, sounds "dejà vu"
jamores1 October 2005
I adore Santiago Segura, but I am afraid that his imagination was not enough to get a better film than Torrente 1 and 2, which I consider very good ones. No new stuff in this one, sounds "dejà vu", though the budget to crashing things is considerable bigger. Only a few gags are worth (Futbol Club Barcelona one is wonderful!), and very-very bad taste in the initial and final scenes. Santiago, how could you do that to us? Thanks for showing us cameos of John Landis, Oliver Stone and Guillermo del Toro (though I don't remember having seen Guillermo there). I still am a Santiago fan, and I truly believe he can do a lot, but looks like Torrente's epoch is over. Come on, surprise us again!

Spanish bizarro gets international. 'El Protector' beats 'Mision en Marbella'
davomdelahaza30 September 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Nice job by Santiago Segura, in his major effort as a tour de force by starring, writing and directing 'Torrente 3. El Protector'. You will not find many surprises if you have already see the previous films from the saga, but still, it's worth watching this 3rd film: nice cameos (which i won't report here, although many have been already reported in the media), funny grotesque humor (just as usual) including (not many but) some great moments (the special appearance of Torrente's god as... well, sort of, God...). Thumbs up on the hilarious crew supporting Torrente's mission, 'freakturing' Xavier Deltell, Sr. Barragán (HISTORY) and El Risitas, and on the emotive re-appearances by 2 of the heroes in 1st Torrente: Jimmy Barnatán and Caña Brava. Thumbs down on that miscasting problem -José Mota as Torrente's partner (sort of what Javier Camera and Gabino Diego played on the previous films, but not getting away with it as the previously mentioned did). Anyways: if you liked both 'Torrente' and 'Torrente II: Misión en Marbella', you're surely enjoying this one.

Oh, standing ovation in the end credits in the theater... That must be a good sign.

Awful!!!
rolherr4 October 2005
I just arrived from the movie theater and I can't be more disappointed. Being a big Santiago Segura fan, I was expecting to spend two hours with non-stop laughs. However, I kept waiting for the "fun" parts... and they never arrived.

Torrente 3 has been a big blast during the opening weekend, when nobody knew how third movie looked like. However, I would be surprised if it is half successful as Torrente 2.

Maybe it is because he kept repeating the same jokes over and over again (the famous "pajillas" joke is mentioned at least three times). Maybe his character is so well known that it is difficult to surprise the audience. Maybe the plot lacks of originality. I can think of 15 funny moments in Torrente 2. Only one or two are really funny in Torrente 3. I would definitely skip this one and watch the first two Torrente's again.

This film is horrible!!!!!!
correodgg28 December 2005
His first movie was funny, the second is not so impressive, but this film is really awful, is full of topics with situations with no logic at all, and the script... this film don't know what is it. Yes, the explosions are more realistic than ever, and the specials appearances of very know people from Spain and from outside make is almost entertainment, but this famous people are from footballs players to humorist, trough Spanish singers to ...Oliver Stone!!!! and most of them simply don't know how to act if front a camera, but it seems that is not a problem to Santiago Segura to include a full handful in this movie.

A joke that make Santiago Segura more rich than he is ever now

Totally superfluous!!!

Still Torrente, but with bigger budget...
andreipaul81214 May 2008
This is yet another movie in the Torrente series of world wide famous (apparently) Santiago Segura. As a third installment in the series, as Torrente 3: El protector, the one-man-show Segura demonstrates once again that he has what it takes to make an audience laugh.

Though his take on comedy is very subjective, as he continues to flesh out his character on-screen, Torrente, who is now back on the Police Force and takes on the mission of protecting a foreign diplomat and her entourage.

The humor is dirty and very vulgar, but if you can get past that, or embrace it even, there is something more, something deeper than just cheap laughs. You can always see Segura's characters on the streets, in schools, bars, and whatnot. They are real, without any sort of care for what society thinks of them. Segura's films are more hilarious social studies than actual films. The drunk next door, the gun obsessed loser, the slutty cousin, all these types of characters add to his films greatly.

The 'bad taste' montages are a big plus to see this movie. Espanol, de Espania !

A waste of time and money
el_gonza281419 October 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This movie stinks. The first and the second were great comedies, but this one really sucks. No great history, the same jokes but now are more boring and a lot of guests making cameos that doesn't fit in the history. What the hell is doing a football player in a diplomatic top secret airport?!!! It's an insult to my intelligence. And Torrente is more fascist than ever in this movie and we even got pedophile references as a joke!!!. Really bad taste! We all know that Santiago Segura is not Francis Ford Coppola but don't waste time and money in this! I thought that after "Borjamari and Pocholo" Segura would do a better movie, but i was wrong... Thank god i work in a cinema and watched it for free

Torrente 3 - One was enough
tleftwich7526 October 2005
A film that succeeds in reaching new depths previously unheard of. There are similarities between this and Austin Powers: Goldmember in that the both concepts were already exhausted and could only try to entertain by stooping even lower. Torrente 3 surpassed Goldmember by a long shot.

The storyline, that barely exists, is used to exhibit Benny Hill style scenes with topless models, so nothing new, but raping an unconscious drug-addict, from behind, on two separate occasions, really makes you wonder who in their sane minds thought these were acceptable comedy moments. Other 'highlights' such as a parody of 9/11, illegal immigrant extortion, famous footballers (+ one Hollywood director) cinema cameos brawling in a brothel, says it all. The novelty of this charmingly degenerate character was spent after the first film, but to believe it could live on for a third is a cheap joke too far.

Torrente 3: El Protector - Best Spanish comic movie 2005
ephod1 October 2005
How to manage a legion of actors from TV channels as TVE 1, Antena 3, Tele 5 and Canal Sur. With actor and directors world wide known as Yvonne Sció, Fabio Testi, Oliver Stone and Guillermo del Toro in such a magisterial way with an edition of smooth transition but at the same time dynamic. With some quotes outrageous that look like that they were written by the magazine "Mad Magazine". Woman take out from "Playboy" and spin offs from famous movies. With the best adult humor. A movie to watch several times to don't lose details of it. This man knows how to make a movie to justify the worth of buying a ticket to go and see it. Best foreign comic movie for 2005.
