What a great short film! And, what makes it even more impressive is that this was made by a film student! Sure, Kit Hui made it while attending school at Columbia (a great film school), but this well surpasses what I might expect from anyone--even from this university.
The film uses what appears to be Chinese-Americans and during much of the film, you might think it was made in China. It's the story about a man whose significant other has vanished. At first, you assume she was kidnapped or ran off with another man, but through amazingly clever and subtle storytelling, you realize what happened to her. And, to make this film very, very poignant, the man in the story hasn't got a clue.
A wonderful script, great direction and a first-rate production all around, this film seems slow and only mildly interesting at first, watch it to the very end--the final scene is absolutely amazing and ties everything together perfectly. Terrific--and I can't wait to see more from Kit Hui.
By the way, this film is on The Independent Film Channel--bundled along with two other films. Unfortunately, the other two aren't particularly good and I hope this doesn't stop people from staying tuned until the third (MISSING) is shown.
