Johnny Depp is very much pro-Sweden ... especially when it comes to the run-of-the-mill beautiful, blonde, fair-skinned citizens. Johnny was super touchy-feely Monday when an Amber clone approached him in the lobby of the Grand Hotel in Stockholm. She's Desiree Nilsson, a 21-year-old fashion blogger. Desiree's move was thwarted by a bodyguard, but she pressed her luck and J.D. noticed, which was all it took. Johnny waved her in and within no time he was...

The best picture doesn’t always win Best Picture. Sometimes the best film of the year gets robbed. Cinelinx looks at the movies which should have won Best Picture but didn’t.
Whenever the Best Picture winner is announced at the Oscars, sometimes we say, “Yeah, that deserved to win,” but then again, sometimes we say, “Huh? Are they kidding me?!” There are a lot of backstage politics and extenuating factors in Hollywood that can determine which film wins the big trophy. The worthiest film doesn’t always take the statue home. Going back over the 88-year history of the Academy Awards, we look at which films didn’t really deserve to win and the ones which rightfully should have won.

Director George Miller’s post-apocalyptic action adventure, Mad Max: Fury Road, earned a best picture and best director nomination from the Golden Globes earlier this month, as well as a nom for best stunt ensemble from the SAG Awards.
The film was a massive commercial success and resounded with critics as well, but one factor working against it as we inch closer and closer to the Oscars is the lack of a legitimate acting performance. Though the film itself won the AFI Movie of the Year Award, there haven’t been any major acting wins for its two stars, Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.
It is a bit of a rarity for best picture winners to not be represented in any of the four major acting categories and Mad Max’s lack of an acting contender may hurt its chances in an already tight race for best picture.

Birdman has claimed a number of principal awards this season, including the top awards from the Directors Guild of America, Producers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild, and is one of the lead contenders in the best picture race.
The film has received nine nominations, including a supporting actor, supporting actress and leading actor nomination. Though the film probably won’t land Oscars in the supporting categories, Michael Keaton has situated himself as a frontrunner in the leading actor category, along with The Theory of Everything’s Eddie Redmayne.
Of the 86 films to win best picture, 36 (42 percent) won without procuring a single Oscar in the acting categories. Seven of those 36 won before the supporting acting categories were implemented at the ninth annual Academy Awards, and 11 of the 36 won without any acting nominations.

In anticipation of the upcoming 85th Academy Awards, Sasha Stone, put together this wonderful montage, which features footage from all 84 past Best Picture winners. It’s a fine reminder that the best films never win as evidenced by the appearance of such movies as Crash and Shakespeare in Love.
The Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 24th on ABC at 8:30 Et.

Vimeo user Nelson Carvajal created the following 4:09 minute video, which features a brief snippet from every single Best Picture Oscar winner from Wings to The Artists and everything in-between. He even added clips from this year's nominees -- Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Lincoln, Les Miserables, Life of Pi, Zero Dark Thirty, Amour, Django Unchained and Beasts of the Southern Wild -- at the end in prep for this Sunday's, 2013 Oscar ceremony. I am busy putting together my final predictions for this year's ceremony and at this point I'm not sure there's anything I'd change. I will be posting an article with all my predictions soon enough, but if you'd like to check them out, you can do so right here. I've included a list of all the Best Picture winners directly below the video. 2011 - The Artist 2010 - The King's Speech 2009 - The Hurt Locker 2008 - Slumdog Millionaire 2007 -...

The Academy has just revealed 84 different Oscar statuettes inspired by past winners and created by artist Olly Moss for a special edition poster for this year's Oscars. The poster, which collects all 84 images (plus a new one for this year's winner) is on sale now right here. Moss designed the commemorative poster in collaboration with Gallery1988 and the final poster will feature 85 Oscar statuettes once the winner of this year's Oscars is announced on February 24. The press release announcing the project included the following bio on Moss, whose work I'm sure many of you are already familiar with: Moss, a graduate of the University of Birmingham, is best known for such works as the Thor cast poster for Marvel Entertainment, the cover artwork for the "Resistance 3" video game, and his recent book "Silhouettes" from Popular Culture. One of the most sought-after screen print artists working today, Moss has created illustrations...

Chicago – From “The Broadway Melody” to “The Departed,” Warner Bros. has collected twenty of their most beloved films in one DVD box set called “Best of Warner Bros. 20 Film Collection: Best Pictures.” Yes, all 20 films in this set on 23 discs won the Oscar for Best Picture. What better way to lead up to the upcoming 2013 Academy Awards than to burn through 20 of the past winners?
DVD Rating: 4.5/5.0
It’s tempting to rank them although how does one really compare “Grand Hotel” to “The Departed” to “Gigi” to “Amadeus”? They’re such different films. Sure, I have my faves in this set and they’re probably the common faves — “Casablanca,” “Amadeus,” ” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Unforgiven,” “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” — but I’m also happy to have lesser-known films in my collection like “Mutiny on the Bounty,” “Mrs. Miniver,” and “The Best Years of Our Lives.

A lot ('The Social Network'!) of the experts ('The King's Speech'!) are obsessed ('The Fighter'!) with what will happen ('Inception'!) on Oscar night. ('Black Swan'!) Personally, I think it's much more interesting to look back and see what already has happened. And by using the magic of numbers, combined with the invaluable assistance of Wikipedia, I've come up with some rather amusing little tidbits. (Some of these you may have read before, but oh well. They're still cool.)
1a. 'The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King' (2003) won 11 Oscars out of 11 nominations. Statistically speaking, it's the king of the Oscar heap. Other 100% winners include 'Gigi' (1958) and 'The Last Emperor' (1987), both of which went 9 for 9, and 'It Happened One Night' (1934), which was 5 for 5.
1b. 'The Matrix' (1999) won 4 out of 4, and the 3 for...

In less than a week’s time we will know the identity of the winner of the 2011 Academy Award for Best Picture, arguably the highest accolade a movie can receive. This year the betting man’s money is on The King’s Speech, while the critics favour The Social Network and Black Swan is placed as the black sheep.
83 have gone before, each claiming a place in cinematic history. But how many of these 83 titles have you seen?
Scroll down the list, tally up your total and post it along with the film you’re most embarrassed not to have seen and the film you feel is least deserving of its unique place in history as a winner of the Oscar for Best Picture.
My tally is 73. My omissions are as follows: The Broadway Melody, All Quiet on the Western Front, Cimarron, The Great Ziegfield, All the Kings Men, An American in Paris,...

Brighton Rock is Rowan Joffe’s feature film debut as a director, and it’s a very impressive first movie. Ambitiously he chose Graham Greene’s "Brighton Rock" and, cudos to Rowan, attracted such talent as Helen Mirren, John Hurt and cinematographer John Mathieson - known for Hannibal and Gladiator. Joffe’s screenwriting credits include 28 Weeks Later and The American.
Brighton Rock played to a sell-out audience at the British Film Institute on 29 January, and was followed by a Q & A with the director and actor Andrea Riseborough (Rose).
The film has its UK theatrical release on 4 February.
Spoiler Alert!!
You’ve said that this wasn’t a remake of the classic 1947 film. What were the key things you wanted to get to the heart of in adapting this book?

Proving to be one of the hottest properties on the world cinema stage, German-born Irish actor Michael Fassbender has quickly filled an impressive résumé of challenging and artistic work. In 2009 alone, he endured a severe crash diet (yet devoured critical praise and awards) as Ira prisoner on strike Bobby Sands in director Steve McQueen's "Hunger," faced down Nazis as the first known undercover film critic in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" and collaborated with Gallic auteur François Ozon in the Edwardian epic "Angel." Not too shabby for one of the greased-up Spartans from "300," eh?
In "Red Road" director Andrea Arnold's magnificent second feature "Fish Tank," Fassbender again gives a crackling performance in an uneasy role. Young newcomer Katie Jarvis stars as Mia, a feisty 15-year-old who lives with her promiscuous mother and cruel little sister in a British housing project.
