Games based around local multiplayer have seen a huge resurgence in the past two years. Titles like Towerfall, and Samurai Gunn have become staples at gaming parties, and the latest contender to try to be the life of the party is Stellar Jay Studios’ Dad Beat Dads. This platform brawler has gamers stealing babies from other dads, and throwing diapers filled with bricks. Yeah, it’s pretty out there.
To find out more about the recently released Dad Beat Dads, we talked to Stellar Jay Studios’ Ted Wilson and Corey McDaniel. It was an interesting discussion about their past in working on animation, working with Cartoon Network, and much more.
Check it out below, and enjoy!
We Got This Covered: Can you tell us how the concept for Dad Beats Dads was conceived? It’s not often you hear about a game that has you stealing babies from other dads.

We may just have come across the best case of old school meets new world that we have ever seen. The fine folks at the indie game company Awkward Hug have just launched Socks, Inc., an alternate reality game played with good old fashioned sock puppets.
All it takes to get started is a sock and a little imagination. The first step is to create your real-life wool, cotton or silk avatar, with suggested googley eyes and perhaps yarn hair. Jim Babb, creator of Socks Incorporated noted, "You do need a sock puppet to play Socks, Inc., but that is about the only requirement. We don’t dictate how you make your puppet and in fact encourage wild creativity. The heart of the game is 'handcrafted fun.' The idea for using sock puppet avatars came from wanting to lower the bar of entry. Anybody can make a sock puppet!

Ah, the New Year. Nothing says bright, shiny reboot like those perennial resolutions to "lose weight" and "stop using the stationary bike as a clothes rack." Happily, the Wii console has created a flourishing new fitness market, with videogame makers churning out titles that promise to work you out without making you brave the crappy weather and short sunlight. Not sure which title to pick up (or get your pudgy partner)? Here are our top picks from this year.
EA Sports Active Fun: Sweat: The Stats: Closer to a hardcore workout video than a video game, EA Sports Active incorporates a leg strap and resistance band in defined workouts that blend cardio (kickboxing, running obstacle courses) and strength training (reverse crunches, bicep curls). The heart of the game is a 6-week challenge in which workouts get progressively harder and longer as you go.The Muscle: As you gasp and sweat...

There have been so many documentaries about basketball in recent years—The Year Of The Yao (about Yao Ming), The Heart Of The Game (about a high-school girls basketball coach), Through The Fire (about Sebastian Telfair), and Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot (about a street basketball tournament), to name a few—that it takes something special for one to rise above the standards of, say, an Espn doc. Kristopher Belman’s More Than A Game seems to be in a position to manage that: An Akron native, Belman caught onto the LeBron James phenomenon early enough to have his camera ...

Fifty-six songs from eligible feature-length motion pictures have qualified to vie in the best original song category at the 79th Annual Academy Awards. Alphabetically, they range from "Believe It" from The Heart of the Game to "You Know My Name" from Casino Royale. Both the musical Dreamgirls and the animated film Over the Hedge placed three songs each. The original tunes from Dreamgirls that qualified are "Listen", "Love You I Do" and "Patience", while Hedge will be represented by "Family of Me", "Heist" and "Still".
And Borat earned a spot on the qualifiers' list with its mock national anthem "O Kazakhstan".
On Jan. 16, the Academy will screen clips featuring each song, in random order, for voting members of the music branch in both Beverly Hills and New York City. Following the screenings, members will vote to determine which three, four or five songs become nominees in the category.
To be eligible, a song must consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film. A clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits.
