The first series of "All Creatures Great And Small" is outstanding and holds up very well considering it was made in 1978. One reviewer takes issue with this episode not realizing the series follows the writing of James Herriot fairly closely. Read the books before you criticize the characters and the stories in the first three series.

Weak episode with little charm

This is a disappointing episode. It begins nicely with James and Helen enjoying the romance of being newly married but a large part of the story is taken up with some very unpleasant characters and storylines concerned with bitterness and humiliation which we are presumably meant to find funny when they are actually anything but.
