Mildly entertaining.

Alan Webster has a very unusual set of parents--just how unusual, he has no idea! One day Dad informs him they'll be moving soon. This is tough for a teen to take...but when he discovers a hidden underground base, things get REALLY weird. When his folks then inform him that they are aliens, and he is one too, that's just too much for a kid to take!! They're returning to Alturus...and soon!

The show features a very nice and safe ending--one you'll probably MILDLY like. However, I really think it could have been better--such as learning that they're leaving because the Earth is about to be destroyed! Not a terrible show--and that's something since so many have been. But also not a particularly great one.

Where does the elevator lead?

Warning: Spoilers
Alan is a high school student. His father is an inventor. One day he tells Alan they are going to move. Alan is sad about the news. He doesn't like having to leave his friends, especially Karen, who has been his friend ever since first grade.

When the lights go out in the evening, Alan goes down to the cellar to switch the electricity back on. By chance, he discovers a secret door and, behind it, an elevator that looks very futuristic. Is it a new invention by his father? Or is it something else?

I think this episode is roughly comparable with 'One for the Books' (#1.23) and 'Such Interesting Neighbors' (#2.18). All three are simple, not complex, and all three belong to the sci-fi genre. I liked 'Such Interesting Neighbors' better than this one. It had more jokes and was a little more mysterious. But this one was also o.k. I liked the plot twists (though the twist in the end was somewhat predictable), so it still deserves six points in my opinion.

A sentimental and sci-fi adventure escape episode.

"Moving Day" episode 20 from season 2 of "NBC's" "Amazing Stories" which first aired on April 3, 1987 was one interesting and feel good episode to watch as the escape and sci-fi theme feel fit the mood of the series well. Set in California Alan Webster(Stephen Geoffreys from 1985's "Fright Night") a nerd like science fiction comic book reading teen is stuck at home while he's not in the high school clique he still tries to impress a girl. Well still he finds interest in his dad Val's inventions while his mother Mara(the late Mary Ellen Trainor from "Lethal Weapon", and "Tales from the Crypt") breaks some revealing news to Alan it's like things might be a big stressful shakeup. Only Alan discovers something underneath the house. Soon it's a quest and move 85 billion miles away to the planet Alturus! Overall interesting escape episode that was a sci-fi like homage and the acting from Mary Ellen as always was top notch, really this was one of the memorable late episodes of the series.

Bewildered Teens in Space

An outcast kid goes to school every day and gets the treatment from the bullies. He has a nice girlfriend who understands all this. His father is an inventor. He has a machine that makes eggs any way you like them pushing a button. It works some of the time. When the girlfriend blows a fuse, fooling around with some gizmo, the kid goes down to flip the circuit breaker. While in the basement, he pushes a button that opens a pathway to a group of amazing machines. Apparently, it is a walkway to the starts, to a planet where they actually came from I think if they had played on the father's nerdiness and occasional incompetence it would have worked. Unfortunately, the acting is dreadful and there is little suspense. Everything is wrapped up in a neat package and that's that.
