This episode sees the return of season one regular Rev Bem; he contacts Dylan and tells him he will show him the weapon to defeat the Abyss... but he must come alone. They meet on an infamously dangerous planet and Rev Bem's behaviour seems rather different... he helps the Collectors drug and capture Dylan. When he awakens he is aboard a dead ship heading into a black hole. When the rest of the crew realise something has happened to Dylan they follow clues that lead them to a Collector scientist who may be their only hope of finding Dylan.
I enjoyed this episode; it was a real treat to see Rev Bem again; especially as his character was more ambiguous than expected... the old Rev was somebody to be trusted; now it is far from clear whose side he is on for much of the episode. The way Dylan is captured and forced to face his fears is well handled... we see him struggling on the doomed ship interweaved with scenes showing the others attempts to find him. These attempts include trying to discover what he fears most; this led me to wonder if he was actually in a simulation for much of the episode. Brent Stait's return as Bem was most welcome even if the character's appearance seeded to have changed slightly... possibly a make-up change or perhaps just the fact that he wasn't wearing his robes and hood. Guest star Ingrid Torrance was fun as Collector Sakkai Saguro; it wasn't hard to see why Harper was immediately in lust with her! Overall a pretty good episode.
