Facing a superior threat
Tweekums13 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
When a colony is threatened by Pyrians, who have placed pyroforming devices on the planet, Dylan destroys the machines and calls for Commonwealth assistance... unfortunately for him more Pyrians arrive first. The Pyrians make it clear that they will be taking the planet. Outgunned and outnumbered all he can do it try to evacuate the colonists before it is too late. While this is going on Beka leads a squadron of slip-fighters to slow down the Pyrians and Tyr, along with a distracted Trance, set off to help a hospital ship whose engines have failed.

This was a really solid episode with plenty of impressive action and some interesting questions are raised; most notably concerning who is supporting the Pyrians and why. It isn't too much of a surprise though as the appearance of the Pyrian representative is rather familiar... something the crew of Andromeda are remarkably slow to pick up on. The idea of loss in battle was explored but it lost some of its impact as the character had only just been introduced... effectively he was just a 'red shirt'. I suspect most viewers will guess why Trance is acting somewhat distracted but that doesn't matter as we get some good character development. Overall a good episode with plenty of action as well as plot and character development.

Another excellent episode, one of the best of the series

This is another episode centered around a battle, and tactics and twists.

The Pyrians, a species very different from humanoids in both appearance and motivations, confront the Andromeda in one of many battles in a major push across the galaxies. And people of uncertain motivations complicate battle strategies. What to do? Accompanying the excellent plot is excellent dialog, eminently quotable and very memorable. It tells us a bit more about a central mystery of the series, and develops other characters further. People act a bit strangely out of their characters, or do they?
