Heartbreak and laughs.

The Girls are busy looking for catering and entertainment for a banquet, they all fall for handsome caterer Jake, Blanche gets in first, and instantly gets irritated by his lack of social grace.

I've said it before, but will again, the combination of humour and sadness is the most amazing duo, it's one of the reasons this show worked so well, it's a very, very good episode, one with some funny lines and heartbreak.

I love the way that Sophia carries her handbag around in the middle of the night, she gets some marvellous one liners here. The drag Queen band, Sophia's outburst was a scream.

There are some exquisite fashions on display here. Nothing beats a 1980's gala evening, talk about haute couture.

Donnelly Rhodes was excellent as Jake I thought, a fine actor, with an unmistakable voice, Jake was a cracking character.

8/10.

Good come-uppance for Blanche for being so judgmental.

Warning: Spoilers
While Rue McClanahan is very funny as Blanche, her selfishness sometimes is rather off-putting, even though it hides a lot of her insecurities. In this episode, she attracts the attention of banquet caterer Donnelly Rhodes ("Soap", "The Young & the Restless"), basically pushing her way past her roommates to get him to ask her out first. While attracted to his down to earth manner and earthy personality, she becomes put off by his apparent lack of social graces, basically pushing him aside at the banquet so she can be seen with somebody more sophisticated. But Rhodes, obviously hurt by her rejection, gets the last laugh as he leaves her speechless by informing her subtly of what his intentions were with her. She has to take a nice long look at herself, and perhaps wake up to not really liking what she sees. In the meantime, Rose and Dorothy spend time auditioning musical entertainment, dealing with a hysterically bad accordion player and ending up with a supposed all female jazz band who really aren't what they seem to be. Glenn Shadix ("Beetlejuice") has a hysterical one line cameo as the only member of the band seen, and basically walks off with the episode.

Diamond in the Rough (#2.22)

Warning: Spoilers
The girls are organizing a banquet. The guy they hire to be a cook is a total hunk according to them and Blanche goes out with him. But she doesn't feel very good with him because he is more of a blue jeans guy. So when he wants to ask her to marry him she breaks up with him. At the banquet she thinks she made a mistake but now he agrees that they are too different.

A slightly boring episode. I wasn't too much into the guy to see what they liked. He was so cheesy.

And there wasn't much to laugh about tbh. The only funny thing I can think of is the band.

Warning: Spoilers
Blanche really is shallow. She turns this guy down because she thinks he is from a different social class than her. In other episodes, she turns down a guy because she doesn't realize he is blind when they first meet at a bar. She also turns down the guy she meets at the library because he is in a wheelchair.

As for Jake, the girls act like he is the hottest man they have ever seen. I don't think he is that attractive. I saw his recent photo on here and he has not aged well.
