True to real life
you_just_lost_the_game_l3 December 2020
I had to look up who wrote this episode, because I thought- the writer must have gone through this, because dreaming like that is so realistic. My boyfriend was killed suddenly when I was 18, and I had the same experience as Blanche, in terms of dreams. I would dream of him, and it would always cut off before I got to talk to/kiss/hug him. As time went on, my mind kind of let me have that happiness again, and even cognizant of it being a dream, I was so happy to see him. Maybe it just caters to a weirdly specific life event of mine, but I love this episode. It manages to slip in funny parts, while also being bittersweet and beautiful.

Best episode?

Warning: Spoilers
I do love this episode. It's mostly about Blanche ('The Human Mattress', as she was once lovingly given that nickname by Mrs. Petrillo herself) as her believed-dead husband suddenly reappears.

At the end of this episode, Blanche, surrounded by her dearest friends, shares what happened to her. I think that it is very touching, very well written and an excellent performance by Ms. McClanahan.

In general I think Ms. McClanahan was the most versatile actress of the group - no offence to the other ladies! But I think she was the one who switched the best from emotion to emotion of her character.

To keep everything in balance, there's a lot to laugh and enjoy as we follow Dorothy being pursued by no less than two(!) gentlemen.

Timeless quality, thanks to good writing and acting.

Beautiful

Truly don't understand people who say the writers were out of ideas. This episode is remarkable and will make you both laugh and cry. It beautifully deals with the notions of grief, loss, and regret and will definitely be an episode you won't forget.

As others have said, Blanche's part is terrifically acted, and the episode provides deeper insight into the more vulnerable side of her character.

The episode's surprise ending-I won't give it away-has stuck with me for years and hits me every time. It's definitely among the best episodes in the series. I would say "the best" if there weren't so many great episodes from which to choose.

Best Golden Girls Episode Ever!!!

Warning: Spoilers
I have watched and laughed with the Golden Girls for years.

This episode took me by surprise. The tone and surprise ending.

Instead of just laughing for the entire episode, I truly felt sad for one of the girls.

I have purposely been vague as not to spoil the end, but for anyone who has never seen this episode, it is worth your time 100%.

Mrs. George Devereaux (#6.9)

Warning: Spoilers
Dorothy has 2 celebrities fighting for her love. And Blanche goes on a blind date and it turns out to be her dead husband George. Turns out he faked his death Blanche is angry and doesn't want to see him anymore, but Rose convinces her to do it. And after they talk Blanche wakes up and has the girls come over and talk to her.

A great episode. So many great scenes. Funny ones how when Dorothy tells how their "6 eyes met" or how Sophia describes Dorothy's prom date.

And the great story about Blanche and her dead husband. It is pretty intense so one feels for her, but also with some light hearted fun. And the scene when Rose convinces her to talk to George just as when she does is very moving.

Sonny Bono, get off of my lanai.

Warning: Spoilers
The combination of farce and sentiments really works in this episode that has Blanche coming face to face with her late husband George, played by Broadway veteran George Grizzard. She has a secret admirer who has sent her dozens of bouquets of flowers, overloading the kitchen when Dorothy only has two. Of course, Dorothy's two bouquets are from celebrities, Lyle Wagoner from "The Carol Burnett Show" and the mayor of Palm Springs who has had his own dealings with marital discord. They both poke fun at their image, and in a funny telephone conversation, Arthur is one half of a duet of "I Got You Babe" which she had already performed with Sophia several seasons before. Battles over who will win Dorothy's heart are hysterical. A sweet twist shows the power of love that never dies, and shows Blanche in a different, unselfish light.

Very Surprising episode
alshehhi-4719422 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Despite the episode having a silly romance triangle between Dorothy and her 2 men, the main focus is Blanche and her dead husband.

The ending is what made it for me. Its been a while since i had a surprise cry.

Very well done.

I cried like a baby!

After losing my husband and watching this episode I understand the feelings and emotions of this episode. The humor was so good mixed in there. It was nice to see Sonny bono and Lyle waggner in this episode it brought me back to the 70s.

I always reminds me of when my grandfather died. I was at the funeral and saw my grandmother and thought how is she going to go on by herself? Then 15 years later I felt the pain of losing my husband after 32 years. The loneliness and pain it look over 3 years for me to recover and I never really have. I will never be the same again.

To all the people who have lost their significant other....

Sweet

Warning: Spoilers
I thought I'd be disappointed by the reveal of Blanche's long dead husband, but it's actually quite sweet.

The Dorothy love triangle is a bit silly and over the top, but fun.

Depressing; not funny. Clearly, the writers were running out of ideas by this time.

WTH ?!

Warning: Spoilers
I love & adore & one the biggest fan of this show. But the episode is a very clear way to show writers' block.

It reminded me of the other episode when Blanch discovered her Big Daddy been cheating on her mom for 50 years, & she hugged the nanny " the cheater" like there is nothing.

& the other episode when she discovred her husband been cheating in her & had a son .. & she just let go easily like its ok for that to happen.

These kinds of episode is just a writer crying for help.. & it doesn't make any any any sense in the slightest form or shape even for common sense, rather than for 4 smart independent loyal women. Its out of characters & not respectful to the audience.
