"The Snow Storm" introduced a young Kim Fields as Kim, one of Florida's bus passengers, later seen in "The Physical," only a few months prior to kicking off nine seasons of THE FACTS OF LIFE (JJ absent from this episode). Florida must fill in for the ailing drivers in her district, caught in a dilapidated house during a blizzard, with Penny, Kim, and Alex (Anthony Thompkins) freezing together. They try to keep warm by teaching Florida how to dance the Freak, Alex leading the way: "Eartha Kitt, eat your heart out!" While the Evans family await good news about their missing mother, help arrives in the unexpected form of a wino (Timmie Rogers), who avoids the cold by drinking his own antifreeze. Penny remarks on his terrible smoking cough: "just imagine if I smoked?" Timmie Rogers was a pioneering black comic who previously made a splash performing opposite Redd Foxx in SANFORD AND SON's "Brother, Can You Spare an Act?" Kim Fields already proves to be quite a charmer with each exaggerated exclamation topping the one before.
