The Goodies underground
ingemar-413 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is a good Goodies episode, which manages well despite having no slapstick scenes. The Goodies discover an ancient cave below their office, where they find a well preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex and manage to get trapped into it, and finally they wake it up.

The episode features two of my favorite mock ads, "Stone's liniment" and "Bristo" ("Get rid of Rolf Harrises fast").

This must be an episode with a low budget, with no guest stars and all done in studio. Despite much of the scenery is obviously textiles, there are many gadgets that add to the fun, like Graemes "bone calculator".

The episode has the kind of open ending that we also find in "Radio Goodies", "Kitten Kong" and "Baddies", where it ends right when a disaster appears, and we don't get to know how it really ends. I like that kind of ending a lot better than "all dies" endings, and it is usually funnier than standard "punchline" endings (like "Give police a chance").

The Stone Age
Prismark1025 August 2023
Graeme falls down a hole and goes straight into the stone age. A cavern full of rare dinosaur bones.

It is left to Bill and Tim to mount a rescue mission which takes some weeks to implement.

When they arrive, they reckon someone got here before them. A half eaten sandwich is the clue.

Still they end up in the belly of a dinosaur but it might not be quiet dead.

This is very much a studio bound affair with just the three of the Goodies. It feels like a cheapo episode but there is some inventive stuff.

It is mainly Bill using bones as musical instruments. Then Bill and Tim have an imaginary football match between Derby and Chelsea.

As for the fake adverts. It seems The Goodies wanted to get rid of Rolf Harris long before his eventual exposure.
