Perhaps it was me but this was a strange little episode as hints of taboo subjects were provided that included some improper relations between a father and her daughter. The first half of the episode, with its uncomfortable subject matter, seemed like a show of its own as Matt is placed in the middle of a situation that just did not seem right.
It begins when a teenage girl named Trudy Trent comes into the Marshal's camp one evening. She has run away from her father and is on her way to Dodge. The Marshal believes there is nothing else for him to do but return the girl to her father and they set out for the Trent farm.
While Matt is visiting with the father, Asa Trent, there is some indications that the relationship between daughter and father is more like a married couple. Matt perceives that the situation is not correct and tells Trudy that he will take her to Dodge.
But when the Marshal gets Trudy to Dodge she is more than a handful as she becomes smitten with the much older law man (similar to her father situation). When Matt does not return the same affection, Trudy will go as far as telling falsehoods to get her way.
Anne Helm, that played Trudy, does a fine acting job as she made her character come to life. Even James Arness seemed refreshed in this program as he had more involvement than we have seen in a few shows. Even with the strange subject matter, the show was still entertaining. And by the end of the episode it appears all things have returned to normal in the Kansas town.
