This episode has convinced me....we are NOT vacationing in Hawaii!!

Warning: Spoilers
It's not bad enough that on "Hawaii Five-O" you see gangsters around practically every corner each week, or Chinese Communist super-spied or murders (I think the murder rate here is worse than any place on the globe)--now the place is getting infected with the Bubonic Plague for the SECOND TIME!!! Yes, this is the second time that folks with this awful scourge have illegally landed on the islands and have scared the population half to death!! The show begins with an abandoned yacht being boarded off the Hawaiian coast. Oddly, everyone aboard is dead--having been murdered. But there also is evidence they might have died anyway, as the boat had rats aboard with the plague! The problem is that evidence shows three passengers were no longer aboard--they apparently killed the crew and left--most likely infected. So, it's up to McGarrett (who, because of coming in contact with the ship) in isolation to head the effort to catch these killers before it's too late.

Despite being a reused plot idea, this isn't a bad episode. Guest stars Nehemiah Persoff and Burt Convey (who is quite good here) did a fine job and the show was exciting to watch. The only problem I saw is that at the end of the show, there were a couple silly glitches. First, the guy shooting at Danny is pretty clearly a stuntman and didn't look much like Convey. Second, there was a logical problem with continuity. You see, only two minutes after learning EXACTLY where to catch Convey, the police go directly there with police cars and lights flashing. Yet, oddly, Convey was already there--ready to meet the helicopter. How did Convey go across town before the police--especially since he was the most wanted man in Hawaiian history (as he had THE PLAGUE) and they would have called every freakin' police car on the island to meet at the rendezvous point!!!!! A dumb ending to an otherwise excellent show.

Love this show ... but

I've been a big fan of Hawaii 5-0 since I was a kid. I was 11 years old when it came on the air. So I'm positively disposed toward the episodes. However, I'd have to say this one is just weak.

We start out with the Coast Guard calling McGarrett in when they find a ship adrift with a visible body. It makes no sense they'd immediately call in law enforcement, or that the first man on the scene would be the head of the state police.

After that, the story about bubonic plague was made out to be much scarier than it should have been. Since the dawn of penicillin and other antibiotics, the plague is easily cured and not at all dangerous.

I just didn't buy much about the story.

Warning: Spoilers
This isn't one to watch when you're on Covid lockdown. Or coming out of Covid lockdown. LOL!

Never been a fan of this one. In fact it's definitely near the bottom of season 6. We already had a bubonic plague story in season 1 ("Face of the Dragon") and I never cared for that one either. I did like that plunge from the helicopter at the end. Pretty cool!

Nehemiah Persoff must have loved coming to Hawaii! You'll see more of him. He made 6 appearances total and this was #3.
