This episode of "Hawaii Five-O" is a nice break from the usual Anglo-Asian guests on the show. Here we have a black villain--a real rarity on the show. The one time I can remember previous black bad guys, they were all pimps! Here, Ossie Davis plays a smart, well-educated criminal.
The show begins with what appears to be a case of seppuku--Japanese ritual suicide (hence the title). However, this isn't a typical way of killing yourself in Hawaii AND the dead man is an important man in international banking. So, Five-O investigates--to see if this really was a suicide and what the motives might have been either way. Eventually, the learn that the death coincided with some fake money transfers--could the two be related and are the criminals waiting to strike again?
While nothing super-exciting happens in this episode, there are also no obvious mistakes or plot holes. It's a solid and interesting idea--and one that is quite unusual. Well worth seeing.
