Strong closer for the fourth season

Warning: Spoilers
Renko (a lively and engaging performance by Charles Haid) has second thoughts about getting married. The bookies that Belker (Bruce Weitz growling it up with his trademark scruffy aplomb) busted hijack a prison-bound bus. Garibaldi (a nicely smarmy Ken Olin) persuades Goldblume (a sturdy Joe Spano) to try a video dating service. Coffey (likable Ed Marinaro) puts a bet on a race horse to raise enough money for Renko's wedding present.

Fay (a touching turn by Barbara Bosson) has a sweet scene in which she informs Furillo (the always outstanding Daniel J. Travanti) that she still cares about him. The hijacked bus situation generates plenty of tension and gets realistically messy, with quite a few shocking casualties (the hijackers even kill one of their own crew!). Moreover, it's a treat to see Martinez (played with swaggering gusto by Trinidad Silva) prove his prowess as a peacemaker as he does his best to resolve the gang war ordeal in a practical and nonviolent manner. Hunter (an excellent James Sikking) has a moving monologue about the death of his horse. In addition, there are bang-up guest contributions from Robert Costanzo as the fearsome Franco, Joe Santos as Franco's equally fierce partner Lestarza, Don Calfa as twitchy snitch Foreman, and Susan Kellerman as sultry, yet imposing dominatrix Eva.

A Lot to Think About
Hitchcoc21 July 2021
Much evolves around the wedding of Renko and Daryl Ann. Her parents, stunned by the pregnancy and Andy's diverse friendships, are catatonic. Andy also realizes the gravity of marriage. Joe takes a monetary donation from the precinct, well short of the amount needed for a decent gift, and bets in on a horserace. During the day, there is a standoff. Those gangster types that Belker busted have commandeered a prison bus and are holding the guards hostage. The interesting thing is that the situation is complicated by internal conflicts among the bad guys. Henry gets talked into trying video dating (seems old fashioned now) and the results are quite unique. Finally, since Frank and Joyce have separated, they seem to be seeing a lot more of each other.
